What a gift you got, Mike. Wonderful Sega. I was looking at prices and Uff !! the issue is lacking and there are very few units in circulation. Without a doubt a collector's item. MD Legend 👾.
I got mine for £40 "untested" years ago. We all know what untested means. Well it worked. It also arrived in a A5 jiffy envelope. Surprised that arrived in 1 piece. That's the wrong PSU by the way. The multi mega was 9.5V 1.3amp. You have a Mega Drive 2 PSU.
I was just feeling all proud of myself making a plastic clam shell for Sonic &Knuckles by cutting a couple tabs out of an Accolade game case so it would fit... then i saw this vid and my accomplishment felt so minor in comparison 😂 top work, the box looks looks great 👍
I purchased a SEGA CDX new when it came out in 1994 another of many game systems I wish I would have kept. I love your restoration I would rather have the box restored rather than tattered myself nice work 😊 I really enjoyed the video new sub here.
Fantastic work refreshing the box. I've got common super famicom imports with really good boxes and a few super rare super famicom imports with a myriad of issues that i'm terrified of trying to refresh. I've often thought of getting some cheap titles with shabby boxes to practice with.
I bought one of these brand new for a reduced price of £79.99 from Dixons back in the day. I still have it in the box in very good condition., never really used it as I got a Saturn on launch. Mine has a single 6 button controller. I'm sure it also came with the Sega Classics CD and I think a Sherlock Holmes CD. Can't remember getting a cartridge with it. I'll need to dig it out to see what it has in the box.
With the ragged and split box corners and edges, I recommend using book repair tape on the inside (it's cardboard brown in colour) to reinforce and keep the splits from widening.
I bought a multi mega back in the day for £75! It was PAL and I stopped using it as I had a 60hz modded Mega Drive, and 32X, plus I wasn't really that keen on it. I probably should have kept it but it would just be taking up space in its box looking good on the shelf. I think I sold it for about £200 at the time lol
OMG! The way Mike described the CDX/ Multi-Mega is😂😂 absolutely hilarious, I felt the same way about it back in my teens, it was a new revised system all in one Mega-Drive, Genesis/Mega-Sega CD/32X And nightmarishly Expensive and all together unless, if you already owned the 3 original hardwares, None the less I wanted one very much, Still hanging on to finding one some day.😎😎😎😂😂😂
Stellar job, Mike! The box restoration in particular was really well done. And Kudos for figuring out the proper contents/configuration of everything. My biggest question though, does your multi-mega actually work?! You didn't talk at all about your experiences playing the thing! I hope it works well. I would love to own one (or rather the NA variant the CDX) at some point but I think it'll always be outside my price range.
Interesting to see this! I have a boxed MultiMega which I bought off a friend all the way back in 1999. The outer box is more or less in the same condition (perhaps a -little- better). Sadly, it's missing the inner boxes. Thought about recreating them, but I now see that's pretty much impossible. If you want 100% certainty about the way these were packaged; another friend of mine has two sealed/new units. I'm not sure if they can be opened without permanently damaging anything, though.
The Sega Multi Mega / Sega CDX are indeed rare consoles to find and even more so to find fully working units that don't have any problems or not working. I have learned they are very tricky to work with if needed to replace laser or other sensitive parts and most who fox Sega CD units often says is so much easier with the Sega CD II model. How the heck could they ship this with just the stupid RF-cable? THAT was/is an insult for what you had to pay for the console AND what it was advertised to deliver in picture & sounds.
Genuinely awesome seeing you piece everything back into the original box. I have no boxes for my 32x or Mega CD II and reproduction seems to cost the earth for inaccuracies
Great job Mike. Really enjoyed watching this restoration. I especially loved the part where you figured out the inside packaging. Won't pretend I agree with the full restoration lol. I'm one of those don't colour the box in people lol. But TBF it does look a ton better now you've done it. And as it's for your collection. It won't be sold on. I can't see a problem with colouring in the box. Great vid though. And a really nice console addition to your collection. I watched your how to collect MD vid last night. As a snes kid I had no idea that the retailers cut off the MD case hang tabs. That's a real bug bare of mine lol. I try to only buy MD games that have the hang tab in place. Just a rod for my own back really 😕
Seem to remember that these could be used as a (bulky) CD Walkman with the batteries in, which was the intended use rather than portable gaming, you probably cannot play games using the batteries.
@@Wazzok1 Yeah it seems crazy now but in the mid 90s CD Walkmans were still a relatively new and very expensive thing so I guess they figured it was an attractive selling point for this
Sooooo.... If CATS were nerdy retro game collectors, they would be just like you; disregard the actual content, stick with the box! 😂 To be honest I thought that you would make a new one, since the original was in such a sorry state. It's very nice to see different things getting restored and I was cheering for you figuring out where each of the internal cardboard pieces went. Very nice!
My sega holy grail would be the wonder mega!!!! I was so close to buying it a few years ago, but I have to import it from Italy, which I'm not too aware of doing, so I just bought the sega x eye. Which I love, but it doesn't compare in any way to the mega wonder❤
i have a mutimega and CDX US version those are my holy grail in sega my collection , would love a japanese version but price is crazy so is trying too find one 😭, in my nintendo collection its my panasonic Q and N64DD
Disressed women: Please! My Son! He is very sick... Mike: This is a Mega Drive console. DW: But I was told you could help... Mike: WHY DIDN'T YOU COME HERE SOONER???? *chokeslams DW through a table Mike: I'm gonna need 16mg of blast processing now!!! You will live to die another day son!!!
No this is the sega cdx 😅 jk and getting the laser replaced is a nightmare I have 2 amd one laser went well and the other the calibration could not be honed In because you need a analog oscilloscope
this is a uk version i have muti-mega and CDX , i have changed the laser in my CDX no probs works its a sanyo laser the goldstar 3DO and Sanyo 3DO use the same laser
@@cbk12 I got mine from AliExpress about 3 year's ago your right there hit and miss I just got lucky I had like 4 sent before I got Lucky , you could try find a Sanyo or goldstar 3DO take the laser from that they use the same laser used in the CDX
You are a master of your Art sir.

Brilliant job, I can really see through your videos how much you love this console. Love this type of content keep it up 👍🏽
Well done my man, good to see you're doing alright. Try not to work too hard. Hopefully I'll see you on the 16th of March :)

This the kind of retro content I enjoy.
I also restore my boxes and try to pack things correctly though I'm not as thorough.
Incredible passion project

Found the original listing on ebay. Man those things are pricey. At least the money went to a good place.
Seem to remember that these could be used as a (bulky) CD Walkman with the batteries in, which was the intended use rather than portable gaming, you probably cannot play games using the batteries.
Why anyone would use an expensive console like that as a portable CD player is insane to me, then or now.

My cousin used his CDX as a CD player in his car.
As my 4th grade English teacher would say, "I don't know, CAN you?"
Cool item, ive got a almost mint factory unit, one day must make a video about it.
Costed me 270euros ❤
