The Legendary, Impeccable Sara Jordan-Powell! Just spoke with her today! And accompanying her on piano is my mentor the Great David B. Smith! This guy can play behind ANYONE!
Brother if you talk to Sara tell her and old friend in the Lord is looking for her she knows me well but we lost track! Freddy Reyes 281-935-2708 Mention we went together to Washington for Jesus in 1973-4 Thanks sO much
Sara Jordan Powell is my FAVORITE Gospel Soprano!! So anointed, so powerful, and so sweet/down to earth! Have had the opportunity to speak with her many times @ COGIC Convocations, etc. Her spirit is as lovely as the melodic tones of her beautiful voice!! Thanks so much for sharing this!! :-)
it was in 1990 when she came down to Cancun and sang in the church i go. Praise the Lord for such a voice. This church was celebrating the second year of being formed.
I went to many a concert and church service where Sis. Sara sang....back in the 70's she could hold some of the highest notes, that most sopranos could only dream of reaching in the first place, endlessly. It was so amazing how so much voice could come from such a petite woman. Listen to the original of this song that she recorded back in the 70's. She is anointed here, but back in the 70's when she was much younger she was simply off the charts!!!
I couldn't agree with you more. That is probably why I have always enjoyed her voice so much. When she ministers singing, she sings, not screaming and yelling. She actually perfected the gift that God gave her.
The interplay between Sarah and the pianist is "spot on" This version and George Beverly Shea's version are my very favorites of this very special tune!!!
No, I never found "Bright Side," but she sang that heck outta that song!!! I heard it over the phone, so I can only imagine what it would sound like coming from my very own speakers...LOL!
I'm glad I got to finally see this lady on youtube. I heard about her through other colleagues who mentioned her when I was talking about Lucresia Campbell's style of singing.
Thank you for posting this video. I belong to the small church in Hockley Texas where Sis Sarah's father was the pastor until his demise. She is apart of a very large family and my grandmother use to cook for them every Sunday. Again, thank you for posting this.
I'm sorry - but THAT song - sung by THAT WOMAN - would raise the dead! And she STILL sings it - with such anointing! I first heard Sara (without the h)- sing this in 1973 - when Carl B. Preacher (rest in peace my friend) was accompanying her! She sanged me into a coma, and I have NEVER been the same since! Thank God!For the ANOINTING breaks yokes - and makes the difference!
There's a song that I'm looking for by Sarah Jordan Powell. One of the members of the Clara Ward Singers that I know, Mildred Means, let me hear Sister Powell's version of "There's A Bright Side Somewhere" and AHHHHHHH!!!!! **slain**
I listen to this when I need to go back to the fountain of all I know to be sure and safe. Such a blessing to say the least. I'm so glad this video exists. Sing lady sing!!
So on this night Twinkie Clark actually was playing the Organ on this song. I don't know why it was cut after editing . I heard the unedited version and I liked how Twinkie came in on this. I think they had the Pianist replay on top of the track after editing to . smh
She did not write this song. It's quite old and can be found on page 467 of the "Yes, Lord" COGIC Hymnal. Can't sing, but if I could this song would be my signature. Be blessed...
@divadle39 search "Sara Jordan Powell God Willed It So" and listen to that audio where she sings "God Willed It So"! And there are even more videos of her on youtube
She has a sister name Cassandra. All her siblings can sing, my mother said they use to sing together when they where young. Sarah's mother is doing well; she is currently taking college courses in her twilight years.
Thank you for this WONDERFUL comment! I looked up Sandi Patty and she is another UNBELIEVABLE soprano like Sara, but I couldn't find the right Patricia Ross on youtube. Can you help me with a link or the right keywors, or maybe a fuller name to search by? Thanks!
will some one plz post some more sarah songs Like: God Knows, I want turn back, I aint got time, Love is something u do, do it today, and so many more. plz thx
Maybe you could answer a question for me. Doesn't she have a sister name Sandra that sings as well. Also, would you happen to know how her mother is doing?
i have a original record that in it says he clutched his rages as ge shivered in the shadows, Then Jesus came and he made this man's darkness flee... now I am confused as to whu she sings it differenty. can someone answer this for me?
People don't sing like this anymore because they like to scream and growl though a whole song and they don't have any vocal training. Screaming is what everyone likes. UNFORTUNATELY!!!
The look on her face after she sings " One man sat alone" is priceless. She sings the best rendition of this song that I've ever heard
I have not heard her for literally decades. Thank you.
OMG, this is the first solo I sang in church when I was like 10. I have never heard anyone else sing it. She did an amazing job.
S
Man....I've been looking for this exact version of this song for soooo long. Amazing
