@@nickpoodoo We do plan to develop a software only version, however it will never be as good as having the intelligence built in. It is already hotswap meaning you can plug in any mechanical keyboard switch you want solder free
The light switches were killing me the first hour. I wanted to throw the thing through a window. I'm glad I persevered, though. As you say, one gets used to the light touch and it becomes second nature
Can yous ay something about using other languages with this keyboard? I guess for the German layout I'd need to buy extra keys and change the configutation and stuff - but does the firmware support other languages at all?
Could you a video demonstrating your fingers pressing 4 or five letters chords? Unfortunately there is not any video for that on the sitet of the charachorder lite? Thani you
Are they gonna adapt the firmware into a PC app so people could use this on any n-key rollover keyboard? Because that would make a ton more sense to me than locking the tech inside a piece of hardware.
Pretty sure what you’re looking for is the Charachorder Engine, it’s a passthrough chip that lets you build in that functionality to any keyboard… but it requires engineering, not plug and play.
@@Thebigskullman It sounds like what he's looking for is a little piece of software that would just read what your keyboard types and input it as a Characorder keyboard. It looks to me like Characorder is just focused on making money with their idea. It's a neat idea, but I don't like the requirement of having different hardware with it.
@@fallofshadows2209 I doubt many keyboards outside of already expensive gaming keyboards would be able to handle that many simultaneous key presses with a low enough latency for the cording to work. You can't fix that with software alone.
@@droptableaccount1820 Concur. My experience is that typical keyboards aren't designed to support any arbitrary combination of simultaneous keypresses.

Don't buy any of their products imo. I wasn't able to make it work in the real world, and last time I looked at the stats, even people who've spent a ton of time on the devices aren't making the kinds of gains that would make it worth their time.
Why is it that no one who demos/reviews ANY product on RUclips ever goes into HOW it works? Like what is the chording theory? Is it just about memorizing their arbitrary dictionary or is there logic behind it which would allow you to type intuitively?
There is no chording theory on the CharaChorder, although some people are working on it. It comes with a starter list of suggested chords but they are somewhat arbitrary in how they are created. This is different from Steno which requires you to learn a fair amount of rules, but once you know the rules, you can essentially figure out the chord for any word. The idea behind it is that you primarily use a certain number of words, so you don't need to know chords for everything. Over time you would learn chords for maybe the 1,000 most common. There are definitely flaws to this approach that are worth discussing and considering.
no, because they don't do NKRO. NKRO keyboards are expensive and this is one of the cheaper NKRO capable keyboards. You can go the software route with software like Plover of course. Also the CharaChorder X is about to ship which is a hardware in-between for any keyboard that implements what the CharaChorder Lite does but for any keyboard you want.
Thank you Lamb, this seems to me to be a very fair review, and we greatly appreciate your help as a beta tester in improving the product!
Will there be chording software for us folks who build custom keyboards and are way too picky about switches and build materials?

They also have hot swap right?

@@lambchorder1894 it's a massive selling point for me though. I speak 11 languages and steno approaches are not really made for polyglots...
Did you give up or get discouraged on the Charachorder One? It’s strange to see someone go from Charachorder One to Lite.
Is there a software version of this ?
is it also wireless?
So basically you could buy any common 10$ keyboard and install a stenography software that would do the job as well..

No. After 350+ hours of practice, decided the whole technology paradigm is fundamentally flawed for real work. Don't waste your time/money.
