This was a hard watch. Seeing those old photos of how the mall ust to be packed and full of excitement is very sad. This mall has been such a huge part of my childhood and young adulthood. Thanks for the video
I live in the area. As sad as it is to see this amazing memory filled place go, this city needs new nice neighborhoods and plazas. Places like southgate in West Seneca are what really thrives in this area today. The only exception is the Walden Galeria due to the dense population, airport proximity, and ability to charge higher prices and attract higher end brands and stores.
That clock you showed in vintage footage early on in the video instantly sparked nostalgia. Then as you're walking, I'm just thinking "oh, that's where Babbage's (later EB Games, then GameStop) used to be!" And as you're approaching Duff's, I instantly recognized that as the corridor where the arcade used to be. I recall there being a pet store there when I was a kid; and I'm pretty sure the menu board you showed toward the end of the video is the last place I ever ate at that mall, when Dave & Busters was still there but the wait for food was too long, so we went to the food court before heading back over there. Sucks a piece of my childhood is now someplace I can never set foot in again, but I appreciate that you posted this video!
Clicked because I have a ton of memories of this exact mall myself, subscribed when I heard you were a fellow Western New Yorker. I'm younger than a lot of the other commenters who's posted about this here, but I still used to love coming here, and that super "local" flair in its later years gave that era a fun sort of "character." I remember being surprised it was still open a couple years back, then pleased that it had a Duffs almost as good as the one in Amherst (am I crazy for thinking the original might be even better than Anchor Bar? Maybe, but I still think that! Sue me!), then had such a hectic year I somehow completely missed that it was shutting down. I also remember for some reason or another I hung around the old Summit Park Mall a lot in its final years, when it was basically a ghost town and empty shell you could still just walk around in, and as a kid that was my first experience with places like that. Bet the redevelopment they've been talking about for that one goes nowhere or goes somewhere bad given Niagara County's track record, honestly...
It's so crazy to see one of these abandoned malls videos so close to home. I used to go here all the time! It's really bittersweet. Most of the malls near us are going out, Eastern Hills, McKinley, etc. It really sucks.
I grew up in the area and this was my go-to mall from my mom taking us here as kids, hanging out with friends as teenagers, or just walking around checking out the shops as an adult. It's been really sad to see it dying over the last decade+ and now closing.
So sad to hear this about E.Hills Mall. As someone who lives in Ontario, Canada, we always went across the border to Buffalo / Western NY shopping. Our dollar is too low, but we still occasionally drive across the border. Please do a video on the Outlet Mall on Military Road (it's very empty lately), Walden Galleria, Main Place Mall, and Boulevard Mall. Buffalo area stores/malls have been closing even before the pandemic. Sad.
Great video!!! I'm going to miss this mall so much I love those clips. I wish the local news would release archive footage there must be tons and tons of film of these local malls back in the day just sitting in a room somewhere such a shame.
I was there as well last Saturday , for quite awhile, lot of amazing memories mall walker almost a decade, met my boyfriend there at smile mail, mom worked there
Every year more and more close so sad maybe one of.the first ones for year willnt be the last unfortunately 11 more months to go. When did it close obviously around this past Christmas did good job decorating ever though they knew be malls last. Miracle last so long if had trouble in 90s. Still had fountain running on last day amazing. So happy you are back!! Be good 24
I was there once to visit a store I worked for. Tracy Wirth was the manager Of Jeans West/JW.. I miss those days. Chess King, Merry go Round, Oak tree, J.Riggings etc..
Great to see the videos back again. Kinda miss the days of public access channels and shows with their celebrities. We had the Don Majakowski show here, lol. But granted, Thurman was a much bigger and better NFL player. Awesome video!!!
Man I miss these old malls. I grew up at Randall Park(also a DeBartolo mall) and they had some kick ass fountains. As well as ramps that were so long they had a place to sit and rest in.
My local mall, Eastfield Mall in Springfield Massachusetts closed 7 months ago and watched it get torn down some yesterday, had been going there all my life, saw Santa there and brought my son there last 10 years to see him to. I think you did a walk through a few years ago there to Anthony... They're planning the same concept as here
What a well done video! It is interesting, yet sad at the same time to see those old photos from the mall's heyday. America's shopping malls are slowly being replaced with Amazon, and other online shopping sites, which is depressing to witness.
@@AcesAdventures1 Just wanted to let you know the video of the Sunrise Mall was very special to me because it was where my future Wife and I went to be on an informal date and I was stationed at Ingelside Texas and the Padre Staples mall and the Sunrise were the places to go along with all the other neat places in Corpus Christi. I would say Corpus was unique from all of my duty stations. Originally from N.E. Ohio and I especially liked the Ashtabula and Beaver Valley also besides all your others videos! Grew up with the Chapel Hill mall and actually worked there a few months at the Woolworth.
Hi Ace. Welcome back. You have excellent taste in music. Much like myself. Thanks for artists such as Night Riots and Mr Kitty. I wish I could offer you the same. Try Blue October(she’s my ride home)Dark Waves, Godzillionaire(absolute zero) Away(too close),Hilltop Hoods(shredding the balloon).
The store is Hart Schaffner & Marx. It was/is a higher end suit brand and is still sold in Dillards stores now. I don't know if they still have any stand-alone stores.
@ 10:35 I want to an estate sale up in Tonawanda New York and somebody had passed away that was a die-hard BILLS fan and they had several volumes of the Shout Magazine from the Super Bowl years that I bought.
For what it’s worth, this idea of making it a whole living compound with houses, offices etc. is closer to what the original mall concept was meant to be than the 80s-2000s layouts. The fact we wound up with what we got was a side effect of the concept not working as intended.
Thanks for covering the mall nearest me, East Towne Mall, before it got demolished. As for Eastern Hills Mall, what was the name of the store that was hidden all those years?
I used to go there all the time as a kid. During the summers they used to have a carnival in the parking lot right in front of Dave & Busters so once you had fun outside you would then go to D&B and have fun inside. By the end of its existence there was nothing let but a bunch of second hand thrift stores.
Another building with so many of my favorite childhood memories, gone. We went there a lot when I was a kid, even though we lived less than a half of a mile away from the McKinley Mall. We just liked Eastern Hills more. Man, I really don't like this whole... "getting old" thing. 😢
It stinks knowing that the Blvd mall in Amherst is the next mall to shut down. I loved the Eastern Hills Mall as well. I guess I will be shopping at the Outlet mall from now on. I hate going to the Galleria.
I live just a few blocks away. So crazy to see this mall closing. But it became just a mall walker location. No business succeeded here. Maybe except Raymour, Sports Park or Pennys. But idk if they make enough to pay for their large buildings.
Looks like there's a lot of stuff left in that sealed off area that could still be salvaged by sending to the nearest Goodwill or similar store. Hopefully someone will decide it's worth the effort to do that...
This is so sad… mall of my childhood and teens. I worked in the food court, and then as a perfume girl at Jenss. I can’t remember - where was the Kleinhan’s store?
This is horrible to see. I went a little bit ago and everything was walled off and there was vendor stands blocking hallways. I only got the last dying years of this place but still remember there being stores and people crowded in there. Is the manager still giving tours? If so, does he have an email I can reach out to him for a tour? Thank you again for a last glimpse at my childhood!
Good video ..hopefully they don't demolish all of it ...Around here a lot of dead malls have been revived buy them building condo towers in the parking lot or onto the mall ...that has made these malls much more busy becasue then people living in the towers don't have to travel anywhere to shop ...They have become like smaller city centers ..
There are still many malls doing all right. Coronado and Cottonwood in Albuquerque. Kenwood in Cincy come to mind. A study could be done and probably has been done about why some malls survive.
It's crap like this that makes me so sad and mad man... not at the video of course. Just taking a beloved mall that's still used by people, and also a big part of people's childhood just striped away to be a cash grab for rich people. I loved the water fountains, one of my favorites to take a break and sit by growing up. I miss walking along the tiles of the floor and going to the, once was Dave n busters. @@Neckername1 I think Galleria also benefits from a volume of Canadian shoppers that the other malls don't get.

Cool video Anthony!!! I love the date the mall opened November 8, 1971 which was on my 7th birthday!!! 🤗🍰🎈🎂❤️
Oh wow!
Bro, it's so hard to see all these malls across the country closing or in terrible condition. All the nostalgia and the memories people had there
It definitely sucks. However all good things eventually come to an end.
Hello!!! Ace, man, these are great retro videos
Hey, thanks!

Aw man, I had no idea the Eastern Hills Mall closed :( Thank you for documenting the mall's final day!
I honestly thought I saw The Nelson twins, from Nelson performing in a quick clip in The Eastern Hills Mall.😊 Thank you for sharing this video.

I remember the Randal Park Mall from my childhood. It was a larger version of Eastern Hills Mall.
This place was most of my childhood. We used to go as a family on Saturday nights. Mom's favorite shop was Jenns'.

@AcesAdventures1 that's funny cause all through your video I kept thinking it looked so similar which was why I commented

I saw Sal’s ExLog on Eastern Hills. Can’t wait for the premiere!
Niagara Emporium was pretty great. I will miss walking around Eastern Hills.
Worked there for several years and shopped there longer. It's a shame... and I worked the Thurman Thomas show several times
I'm happy to see you back! It's a shame it closed, the aesthetics were really great!
thanks so much!

That was Hart, Schaffner, and Marx at 11:38 in this video. Also this is REALLY good, particularly the hidden back portion of the mall that you saw.
great videos, going to miss you take care & stay strong
Hart Shaffner Marx! Looking at a tie made by them. A little pricey but nice stuff.
Good to see you back in action ACE!! 👍🏼
Thank you!
I used to work for a company that sold them fabric for their suits
I went here just about every weekend in the mid 80s as a teenager! Sure sad to see it closed down, and now Red Lobster too across the street from it 😞
It stinks knowing that the Blvd mall in Amherst is the next mall to shut down. I loved the Eastern Hills Mall as well. I guess I will be shopping at the Outlet mall from now on. I hate going to the Galleria.

Great video, thanks!

This is about a mile away from the site of the country's most recent fatal plane crash 15 years ago in 2009 - Colgan Air Flight 3407.
Never seen a mall with a physical "get rich" quick scam store.
Noooooooo! My old fav mall!

Been here countless times, at least every year for Xmas just to see if they had something. It's kind of sad to see it go, but, it's time.
I’m gonna miss you. I grew up going there until 2005 till 2017

The Harrisburg mall will be demolished over the next year, maybe even less. It is still open at the moment with very little stores.
And here’s the ticker! The proposed plan is no longer feasible! The sewer system can’t handle what they’re proposing!

The malls should be preserved and even restored. The parking lots should be turned into restaurant and living complexes around the mall.
It sucks, I used to love going there also, that first clip was from channel 2 WGRZ in case anyone was wondering
wow haven't been there inside there in 20 years
I’m 42 myself. I know how that is. Life happens.
I've passed by the Eastern Hills mall probably 100 times since this video released and am only now finding out they closed.
