Don't quite get why people mention that Hyper-V is "technically not free". If you already have the OS as many do, it IS free. The major complaint I can see being valid is that it's not cross platform like other options since you obviously need Windows for it. If you have Win {whatever version} Pro, use it or don't use it. Kinda the point, you have options so use whatever works best for you.
I have the opposite experience. I find virtualbox always works and is dependable no matter what image type I download or import. Boxes always boot, networks always link. I have nothing but problems with Vmware. I know virtualbox is much slower but it seems dependable.
I lost around one hour today trying to figure out why I couldn't even get past the setup process in virtual box. It was the freaking turtle. Then lost probably another hour or two trying to completely disable anything hyper-v related, core isolation and all that stuff. So I went from 30 minutes and freeze while installing a guest os (and couldn't even finish) to probably less than 10 minutes with hyper-V off.
VirtualBox is way too slow. I have succesfully installed Windows 10 Lite in VirtualBox and it llllaaagggggssss... just don't! Don't ever use a type-2 hypervisor on a Windows host. Always use a type-1 hypervisor like VMware, Hyper-V, Qemu and Proxmox.
Hyper-V is not really "free." You need a Windows license to use it, and you are limited to using Windows as the Host OS. KVM / QEMU, Xen, and Virtual Box on the other hand are open source, with no Windows licensing / hosting requirement.
You only need a license if you want to "activate' the Windows OS. Technically you don't have to. You can leave it inactivated (at least with Windows 10) and just live with the watermark and since it's a VM, who cares if you have a watermark or lose the ability to change some personalization settings. I'm looking to run a cluster server for ARK Survivor Evolved. Seems like Hyper V would be easier to use/setup for my purpose at least
The semantics of the word "free" come in two varieties: Gratis: Doesn't qualify as it is intended to require a paid Pro or Enterprise license. Libre: Doesn't qualify as its source code is privately concealed from the user.
Virtual Machines ALWAYS use the host computers resources. Without the host machine sharing RAM, Storage, CPU. there is nothing for it to run on. The host machine is the track, the VM is a train. :)
Hyper-V is not good in my opinion since is not avilable to all platforms and heck even windows 10 home edition on the other hand virtualbox supports all platforms and you could download older build if your os is like windows 2000, xp and vista
Hyper v if you want your virtual machine to run fast and virtual box if you don't want your host machine to be slow. Hyper v is type 1 hypervisor so it's much faster.

I prefer Virtualbox because I don't know how to get aero in Hyper-V in Windows 7/Vista so, virtualbox is easier to use.
I like them both, but I prefer Hyper-V with all the cool stuff you can do with Powershell Direct from the host machine..
I always find that VirtualBox always has issues with my virtual machines, whether it be boot issues or just corrupted Windows installs.

Thanks! Hyper-V is not what I need. Will stick to Virtualbox in seamless mode.
right one: Virtual Box
* Free
* Open-source
For me in Hyper V the guest os runs faster, but I use VBox cause of its functions
Dude, you was running VirtualBox in SLOW mode (turtle sign in a tray)

Great video, thank you!
This channel is underrated

Your statement seemingly implies that HyperV is an application; it's not, it's a Type 1 hypervisor.
Whichone is for low end pc
Virtual box
@@bubhub10 so s type 1 hypervisor is bad for low end pc but a type 2 hypervisor v box or vmware hypervisor runs good on low end??? Really?

Never heard of Hiper-v strange
I only recommended to use virtualbox or VMware without speed up windows Vista windows 10 or windows 8 8.1 10x faster with aero
*sad vmware noises*
Both Are slow
And I hate it
