    • @MedigapSeminars
      @MedigapSeminars  9 месяцев назад

      In New York or CT, yes with limitations. I don't know why you would. The G-HD is better coverage and you keep the benefits of Original Medicare. Plus you can upgrade at any time. Once you get an Advantage Plan, you are limited to changing only during the Advantage Plan enrollment periods. If you get cancer in April and they deny or delay your care, you can't do anything about it until Jan 01.

    Can a person just have Medicare part B and a supplemental plan

    • @MedigapSeminars
      @MedigapSeminars  4 года назад

      You must have Medicare Parts A & B to get a supplement. Part A usually has no premium. If you have VA prescription benefits you do not need to get Part D. Otherwise you will need to pay for Part D. These plans can be as low as $13 /m for people with no prescriptions.

    Excellent video. Very clearly presented. Very useful.
    I'm a Connecticut resident.
    You have convinced me to get a high deductible plan when the time comes.
    Question: Premiums for Part B and Part D are higher if your Adjusted Gross Income is greater than $85,000. How much higher depends on how high your AGI is. Is there a similar increase for Medicare Supplemental policies if your AGI is above $85,000?

    • @MedigapSeminars

    This site -and you-offer the most information, so far, that I have received. One differing opinion is this: I was advised by the last MediGap agent that I am able to change at ANY time in NY state from a MC Advantage Plan to a MC Supplement plan--but you apparently disagree with this? She said I had until March 15th to change a MC Advantage plan to another MC advantage Plan if I had good reasons, But that I could get a MediGap Plan Anytime of the year and it was not related to enrollment periods at all.

      Hi Marcella, Here are New Yorks special rules for Medigap Plans: New York - All Medicare supplement plans offered in New York are priced as Community Rated. New York offers a special Medicare override rule that allows for a perpetual Open Enrollment into a Medicare supplement plan. A New York resident can purchase or switch Medicare supplement plans at any time, as often as desired without medical underwriting. However, it is advised you retain a Medicare supplement for at least 6-months. Switching plans within a six-month time frame can result in a temporary pre-existing condition clause. New York also limits Medicare Part B excess charges to 5%. ---- You can only change from an Advantage Plan back to Original Medicare during either the Annual election Period (10/15 - 12/07 for a January 01 effective date) or during Open Enrollment (January 01 through March 31, starting the first of the next month) Whenver someone requests an insurance quote from us I include any state specific rules you need to know.

      PS If you have a Medicare Advantage Plan (in any state) you can use the Open Enrollment Period (01/01 - 003/31) to make a one-time switch to another Medicare Advantage Plan. You can only use this feature once during Open enrollment

    if i m hearing this right so basically you would need to acquire a $10000 medical bill to hit your deductible with a HDF plan?

    • @MedigapSeminars
      @MedigapSeminars  6 лет назад

      If all your services were outpatient Medicare Part B, then yes it will take over $10,000 in Medicare approved charges at Medicare approved rates to reach the current $2,240 annual deductible. Also, the deductible amount is linked to your Social Security COLA. i.e. a 2% increase in your COLA would result in a 2% increase in your deductible. That deductible is also your maximum annual out-of-pocket expenditure. That is why it's rediculous to pay $3,000 +/- a year for a supplement when the Plan F-HD caps your annual cost for medical bills at less than other plan premiums.

      You will also need to enroll in plan D. My coverage for this is just $17 per month. See Robert McPherson just below this for more info. Being the USA, plan D is somewhat complicated. The biggest scam is that under insurance, the big drug store chains charge much more for prescriptions that someone can get them for if they pay cash and a neighborhood pharmacy.

    • @MedigapSeminars
      @MedigapSeminars  7 лет назад +1

      Blanche - In NYC all the insurance companies should make it easy for you to switch. However, each insurance company offers plans at different prices (identical benefits, different prices, and different pricing strategies). My role is to represent your best interest in finding the right plan for your needs and your budget, then find the insurance company that will give you the best price over your lifetime. You don't pay for my services. You don't pay more for your insurance when you work through a broker like me. What you get is the ability to easily see and understand all your options.

    Thanks for the great video series. I watched a few of these videos last year when I first signed up for Medicare, and re-watching them again as I approach year 2. I plan to call your company in the next few weeks.
    I still am confused about switching medigap plans in NY:
    1-do I need to be enrolled in a medigap plan by the start of 2021 to be able to switch from say a high deductible plan to a low deductible plan during the year, or can I sign up for that low deductible plan any time during the year, totally bypassing a medigap plan up until that point in time?
    2-typically how long would it take for the medigap plan to take effect once I sign on mid year? Can I immediately drop the plan after a surgery has been successfully completed?
    I have not utilized the healthcare system whatsoever in nearly 40 years, and unless something changes will continue to under utilize the healthcare system. As far as I know I am healthy.

    • @MedigapSeminars
      @MedigapSeminars  3 года назад

      In NY you have a perpetual Open Enrollment. As long as you have Medicare A & B and NOT a Medicare Advantage plan you can enroll in a supplement at any time. If you are without a supp0lement, there can be pre-existing conditions for a 6-month period. If you have a supplement you want to keep it for at least 6-months to avoid a pre-exisitng condition clause when you change plans. Other than that, you can be on your way to the hospital in an ambulance and enroll in a supplement. How long it takes to go into effect depends on the insurance company.

    If your birth month is say in Oct. During the first year of enrollment for Plan F or G HD, a subscriber has a surgery, say in Nov. She is charged for the 3 months deductibles (Oct, Nov and Dec) and the coverage for the surgery costs starts to kick in 100% thereafter? Did I understand it correctly about the HD Plans? It almost seems like unfair for the first year, if one is born in January...LOL Please let me know if the entire deductibles in the first year, regardless of when one starts the Medicare, means 12 months worth.

    • @MedigapSeminars
      @MedigapSeminars  4 года назад +1

      The company I typically use for F-HD and will Use for G-HD reduces your deductible as you get past the first half of the year. For example, if you enrolled in October your deductible for the rest of the year would be $860, not the full $2,300. That is a decision made by the insurance company, not Medicare.

    I live in NY can I switch from Advantage plan to Regular Medicare with D and Supplement plan with no underwriting and no enrollment period?

    • @MedigapSeminars
      @MedigapSeminars  6 лет назад +6

      Great question, Robert. In NY and CT, when you have a Medicare supplement you can switch to another Medicare supplement at any time, without Medicare questions or qualifications. Conversely, if you have a Medicare Advantage plan you can only switch out of that plan during the annual disenrollment period. The annual disenrollment period is from January 01 through February 14. Most insurance companies will allow you to apply for a supplement starting October 15, for the supplement to start coverage on January 01 (the first day of the disenrollment period). You can also get a Part D plan starting october 15th through the disenrollment period as well. At no time will you be required to go through medical underwriting to qualify for a supplement plan. This is important - if you take action to disenroll between October 15 and December 07, your supplement and Part D can start January 01. If you take action to disenroll in January, your supplement and Part D will start February 01. If you take action in February up to the 14th, your new plans will start on March 01. - If you like my answers, please give my answer a thumbs up. :-)

    • @robertmcpherson1171
      @robertmcpherson1171 6 лет назад

      No I didn't know that. I'm working with an independent Medicare agent and he gave me the choice of 2 Advantage plans with 0 premiums. I'm on SS Disability and after SS takes out the 134 for part B I'll be making 1288. That's not leaving me much for my other monthly expenses. Maybe that's why he was pushing the advantage plans. Plus I have 9 medications I take daily all generic and generic preferred. Don't most of the D plans have a $405 deductible ? I wish I could make it work because Id rather have Original Medicare. That's why I asked if I could switch from Advantage plan later if I could swing the extra cost.

This is what I suggest, use this link to send me your zip code and contact information: medigapseminars.org/contact-us/ I will email you a quote and information on the Medicare supplement I beleive most fits your situation (The Plan F-HD). It has a lot of advantages over a Medicare Advantage plan. We can also talk over the phone and I will walk you through how to shop for the Medicare Part D plan that will offer you the lowest price on your prescriptions using the Medicare.gov website. Then you decide. I don't "sell" or pressure. I just offer the information you should have before you make a decision. It may be that the Medicare Advantage plan is the way to go. But you need to have all the options in front of you before you can make that decision.

      Hi Rama- Thank you for your kind words. I appreciate your comment. Very few Medicare insurance companies offer the Plan F-HD. Because the premium is so low, there is little profit in it. In addition, NY state has significant regulations and most insurance companies simply prefer not offer any products in that state. Your choices are limited and Globe Life / Torchmark offers the best price. They are a more financially stable company than most of the brand names you hear of. Speaking of brand names, most people don't realize that Blue Cross Blue Shield is not some big national company. It is a franchise made up of 36 small independent companies that simply pay a fee to use the BCBS name. They each have their own territory, finances and rating. It makes it look like BCBS is a big organization....it's not.
