I like how you are always positive, despite that the Soul is more likable than effective :) . I Bought my Soul 30kw after viewing your videos a lot of times (live in Sweden with 65 km to work, mostly highway). Keep up the good work!
+Andreas Foda *kWh
Thank you Bjørn for your great job! You are the best as always 👍🏻💪
Thanks for the noice testing. Good soundproofing is important to me.
Would Love to see the same test for the B250e. AS always great video Björn.
Quite interesting to see the noise levels inside the car at different speeds. I always thought the Tesla were noisy (at least that's what the reviewers say) but it seems like they're still the most isolated EV:s compared to the alternatives. I know the Passat GTE isn't a true EV - but could you *PLEASE* add it to the list? Here in Sweden the Passat GTE is *the* most common plug-in hybrid in private- as well as the business segment. It'd be awesome to see how the noise levels diffeer between the true EV:s and the Passat GTE. Love the channel, Björn!
Good video as always! (and good weapon snow brush :D)
Bjorn IronSide, get your inner Warrior on mate with a real Viking Axe
the 2020 Soul will have almost 300 miles of range! or something like that. I had to rent an ice Soul last week to see if they were fun.. and it was fun, I am sure that an electric one would be awesome
hahah always makes me smile, ill bite with the de-capitator...its a window ice scraper with snow brush...you know this, we all know this :)
and... all speedometers show around 3-5% less that actual so you dont blame the car company for speeding tickets. trip is spot on, and if you plug in a dongle into the obd2 connector, youll see that the car does infact know the right speed even though it shows it incorrectly.
Odometers are correct mostly because the car is actually detecting the correct vehicle speed. What you see on the instrument cluster is a speed that’s been deliberately made to over read. This means when you are caught speeding you can’t blame the tools. It covers the manufacturers arse. I know because I work with vehicle and have access to can databases for many, you can often find the genuine vehicle speed in one of the can messages and it generally tally’s with gps readings.
The consumption increase from head wind is higher than what you save on the tail wind on the way back. If it would be no wind at all the consumption would be lower.
Yes, but it was not possible for me to stop the wind.
I know 😂. It was no criticism. Just info for those who don't know.
Bjørn Nyland bjorn godland!
I know. But as you probably guessed, I can't wait for a day without wind. And wind is usually a part of normal driving conditions.
Bjørn Nyland totally agree. That’s why we do not want the NEDC test but the TBRT, or I don’t remember. YOUR test 😂
Great stuff! Love your reviews. Am bit undecided between Soul, ioniq, i3. I like soul with huge sun roof and quite roomy. Guess no pre heating compared to i3
The speedometer is off because of the extra safety margin most manufacturers like to add (they don't want to get sued if display shows 50 but you actually drove 53). They don't do it to the trip meter, that only deviates because of different tyres etc (with factory tyres this inaccuracy would be very small).
This is the great thing about electric cars when they get into their stride with the bigger batteries and solid state etc. Nobody will care much about aerodynamics or poor efficiency. The day of the big car is back and you won't have to feel guilty. I fact I am hoping some car maker will bring back the 1920s style runner boards.. and big suicide doors... and big bouncy bench seats in the back with the large wrap-around C-pillar. Yes please.
How is the brick Soul less noisy than the more expensive brand Hyundai Ioniq with cd 0,24?
We swapped our Soul EV for the Ioniq. Miss the Soul. Miss the higher seating, easy parking, quieter and better stereo. Still range is king 😳
"Aerodynamic as a brick" :))
The “Large shaft” is a windshield ice scraper
Wow, are you sure?
it would be nice, if you had did the 60 kmph test too. In India, that's the maximum possible speed inside the city.
hypermiling is about 330km with this soul (or maybe the 27kwh model) (Paris freeway test @caradisiac.com)
Bjørn do you have a place where you publish your data? (all the tables and graphs) These things are very useful when comparing cars, and its a bit cumbersome to try to find the right video with the right data everytime
+norgi not yet
Hey Bjorn--what is your primary language? English, Norwegian,Thai? I can recall your mom ranting at you in Thai in an old video. I'm always curious for multi lingual what language do you think in? I'm mono language so oblivious my thoughts are in English.
Anyway really enjoy your videos also drive a blue metallic X
+Eugene Godefroid Norwegian is my main language.
Would make a perfectly fine city car with occasional trips if charging infrastructure/time is available.
Kona EV vs Kia Soul EV? What would you buy? Kona missing from your chart
Kona of course.
Winter test for Leaf 40kwh?
Yes
I love the air cooled simplicity
It rapidgates.
True but it costs 15k dollars, 1/3 less money, than m3, for those drivers that enjoy the connection between the car
Does the Soul uses the same powertrain as the ioniq ? Is this powertrain also used on the Kona and Niro, or is it completely different ?
If it is the same, if we look back at the number provided by Bjorn, the efficiency differences are pretty big ! I know previous tests were realised in more favorable conditions, but I believe the drag coefficient on the soul is the big killer here compared to the sleeker ioniq for example... But even compared to the Kona/Niro, which are not as aerodynamic as the ioniq, it still looks like they are much more efficient than the soul.
This is not to say the soul is a bad car, I just try to understand what factor is the most important when it comes to these vehicles efficiency... Obviously drag is a big one, but if we compare similar priced EVs, I also believe Hyundai/Kia is ahead of the game when it comes to the powertrain's efficiency. Not Tesla-level ahead of the game, but definitely ahead of the historical manufacturers.
😊👍
That shaft thing is an ice scraper and snow brush for cleaning up your car if you park it outside.
Haha, that's a nice joke. Why would anyone need to do that?
I have a 2015 kia soûl EV 27kwh , today i am at 85000 km . outside its not cold not even below 0 and im getting only 105 km of range with a 18kwh \100km average .
So am i the only one in Europe with such a low range ?! Or do i have a default battery !? PS i dont use the rapid chademo Chargers .
*kWh
Only 5 degrees outside charged at 100% I get 100km of range . My energy consumption is 18.4kwh/100km average speed calculated is 46km/h but usually I run on roads that have 80 km/h speed limits
7:08 this is normal for every EU car, the speedometer is rigged to show more due to regulations.
According to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speedometer#International_agreements, regulations do *not* require indicated speed to be higher than the actual speed.
Instead, they mandate that the indicated speed must never be *lower* than the actual speed. As a result, manufacturers which do not wish to or cannot provide precise enough speedometers work-around this rule by artificially increasing the indicated speed.
@@pbasista Well, there is always a -+ measurement error. In order to ensure you never err on the minus side, the indicated speed is moved to the plus side. Also, OEMs have to account for the biggest wheel circumference.
have u tested consumption on soul ev 27kwh?
Probably similar.
The tool is to attack fossil cars parked at EV chargers
