I remember when this came out, and I was devastated that there was just no way I could sing low enough to be able to sing this song. I was I think right at puberty, and my voice was still pretty high. Thankfully, over 20 years later, my voice has lowered enough that I can finally sing this song! Of course, that means it’s actually now too low to sing most female songs, and I usually sing men’s songs. The price of being an alto. There’s not many women who sing low enough that I can sing their songs, but Toni is one of them, and one of the ones that makes me glad I have a low voice. Because if there anything quite like a low, warm voice coming from a woman? The only song I was just as happy to find I could sing was Black Coffee by Ella Fitzgerald.
