This resonate so well with how i view the world. I coded along with you for some months, back when you started recreating your WebOS, I already work as an IT engineer myself - but I found it exciting to see a person share a passion for code as I do, I actually found your channel as I was looking into creating a silly WebOS myself as a hobby project, and I learned multiple things from you :) Just wanted let you know that I check in on videos from time to time as I consider YOU an inspiring person/ rolemodel. Thanks for sharing.
That is awesome to hear, thanks for sharing! That's cool that you were coding your own WebOS along with me at the start. Glad to hear you check back at my videos occasionally. I hope to keep making them and working on fun projects for a long time to come.
Bro i have seen ur portfolio in ine of the youtube channel i come to your youtube channel you are really killed it bro 😮osm love from india karnataka ❤.........from now onwards you are my inspiration sir ❤
Hey Dustin, I checked your personal portfolio website and I was shocked, I shared it with my friends, I only know HTML, CSS, JS, React. I want to be at a stage,u are currently but I really like to do coding and exploring new possibilities but How can I learn to make website like that. I am ready to put my time, effort and everything that is required but I want to learn. Can you please help me ?
Thanks very much! If you really like coding and exploring new possibilities then I think you are on the right track to succeed and get to where I am. As far as I know there aren't many shortcuts and it's taken me a long time to make what I have and get where I am. I hope this video can help in some way and I hope to make many more on the topic in the future.
Hey sure, I became self taught a long time ago when I was roughly 12 years old. I've always loved tech and computers. After high school I went into IT work, fixing computers, with no plan to program them. 8 years later I gave up on IT and went traveling for 4 years, then after getting married and moving to BC I decided it was time for that career. I found a random job on Craigslist and took the opportunity to begin my learnings of everything about web tech that could help me. 6 years after that I was at Microsoft. Likely there are much more direct routes to get into this and be self taught, but to me it was never about the money or having a career, so it took me a while to decide that this was what I wanted to do for work.
@@DustinBrett i liked how your decision was fixed and you know what you wanted and began working on it consistently. Brilliant determination. In my case i have a lot of questions and I know what I want to do but I want to talk to people like you who have experience.
@@blackdeutrium746 Thanks! I think at the point where I started traveling is where I began focusing my life on what interests me, and that is what has gotten me where I am now. I believe a career finds you when you follow your passions. As well I believe the money will come when you focus on doing what you love and continually evolving.
I want to develop a Mac OS on Web using similar effect like Mac such as genie effect etc.. Can you recommend should I use framework or can start from basic like html, css javascript ?
Awesome, good luck with it! I recommend being very comfortable with JS/CSS/HTML before diving in too deep, and being ready for the first few iterations to need rewrites. For frameworks I find React to be a nice one to work with, but there are many and picking one can also be fun so I don't wanna take that away from you. 🙂

Very well articulated, lots of things resonated with me. Reminds me of the quote, "find something you love and let it kill you".
Thanks very much! Ya I would be surprised if computers don't kill me, one way or another 🙂
Haha with the AGI fiasco these days, we are all doomed!
@@aybeedev Haha ya, Skynet moment incoming...

When are you going to post a new blog on your website??
Great question! I was just thinking about it today actually. It's been over a year and I do 100% plan to post one in the next few weeks.
Hi Bro could you tell more about yourself how you become a self taught developer?

@@DustinBrett yes ! We also must not forget that helping others helps us to learn more and even fuels our passion to achieve more.
