Thanks Tony! I couldn’t believe it was just sticking out of the ground. Took a while to pry it out lol. The crazy thing is the tear out is still ongoing, but now that I’m on Christmas break I won’t get to hunt it again until January. Hoping I don’t miss too much.

How do you go about getting permission to hunt on private property/public property? What's the general question/answer process?
I just knock on the homeowners door if its a private yard and ask if they wouldn't mind if I searched their front yard for old coins and relics, etc.

Hello from down on the MS gulf coast. Was wondering if you'd tell me what brand/model detector you use. I'm just now discovering the hobby and am comparing detectors and price ranges. Thanks in advance.
Hey! I use a Minelab Etrac. Its a bit on the expensive side but a great machine. If you want something decent but cheaper then I would suggest a Garrett AT Pro
Nice finds guys! On those super black silvers try boiling them in a 50/50 mix of olive oil and lemon juice. After a couple minutes put it under running water and wipe it between your thumb and forefinger. Might take a couple boils but this method works for me since all my silvers come out of the ground black. Merry Christmas and happy hunting, Dave.
Thanks Dave! Will definitely try that out. Unfortunately I ruined one of the coins I found at the tear out by trying to use steel wool and soap. It smoothed it out and it lost a lot of detail. It’s just crazy how corroded some of those things can come out in tear outs and other times clean. Merry Christmas! Zach

Why not use some portable lights, they weigh very little and provide excellent light.

No I just go after hours when the workers are done and nobody has a problem with it

I'm soooo new! Door knocking. You literally ask people if you can dig holes in their yard? How do you get them to agree?
Lol it sounds crazy at first, but if you do it right most people don’t have a problem with it. Basically we just tell them that we like searching for old coins and tokens etc, and we were wondering if we can search their front yard for any and that we only dig small holes and fill them back in

Yep, you are basically selling yourself to each homeowner. However, a lot of people do not have the outgoing personality which "door knocking" requires.
