    It's funny how so many youtubers teach prayer plant care, when their own does not look perfect. But not you! Your prayers plants and calatheas look perfect. I am gonna blindly follow whatever you say.

    Never seen such a lovely collection. I was given a maranta a year ago. It didn't look great, almost died, came back and flowered for a while but it isn't looking great anymore. I have changed location and type of water but sadly I can't help it improve. This is a plant I have really struggled. I came to the decision that since plants are just like people, perhaps, he isn't very fond of me, lol!

    I have a maranta cutting and it grew roots rather quickly. I did a water propagation so I could keep an eye on the roots growth. I did use a bit of plant food and it sprung roots within 2 weeks. I haven't planted it yet, waiting for more root growth.

    Beautiful plants! I had 2 very small Maranta's that ended up mostly dead, so I clipped what I could and ended up with 8 clippings in water. Some didn't survive the propagation but some did. I also later got a hanging basket I repotted aesthetically but it had a hard time, so the other day I took the remaining pieces that were doing well, the few clippings, and a small 4" one I found and they are all consolidated into 1 pot now. Pot may be a little too deep, but it's pretty thick with all the pieces I was able to save. It's going to be receiving extra care and a lot of talking to it so it can thicken and grow in height for a full, healthy pot. I'm hoping it starts to drape over the sides as well.

    All your plants are gorgeous. I tried to grow a fittonia cutting. I had it in small glass of water and after a few weeks it produced some roots. I was so pleased with myself and planted up the cutting. It died almost immediately! I was gutted. I will try again though. Thanks for all your tips.

    • @TropicalPlantAddict
      @TropicalPlantAddict  5 лет назад +1

      Jan Enderwitz I’ve heard that Fittonia is easiest to just cut and place straight back into the soil, and keep moist. I haven’t tried yet but I might try some in water and some straight in soil and see what happens

    Your plants look amazing.. i think I’ve done all the care I know they still don’t look as stunning as yours esp my marantas and my calathea vittata.. my vittata’s baby leaves turned yellow and seem to be dying. my marantas, they don’t stand up and pray at night even with no light.. I live in the basement and have no access to a window/natural light but I got them every alternatives i can think of.. i am currently growing them inside a mini green house with grow lights.. i use distilled water and i monitor humidity very closely.. humidity ranges from 60-70.. Even with all that, they don’t seem to be thriving well ☹️

    First video of someone giving Calathea advice that actually have Calatheas that seems to be doing really well. Most videos on youtube is "well you should do this and this and this, and I do this", and they show you all their plants with brown leafs and so on.
    Make some more with more indepth technical things you do. Exact room humidity and so on. I think the filtered water might be a biggie.

      Thanks very much! I filmed this video quite a while ago, since then I’ve had a few problems with my calatheas… They seem to be very prone to bugs, so a few of them I’ve had to cut right back to regrow and lost a few others. I still have my 15 year old calathea rufibarba and a handful of others. I mainly collect rarer plants these days and don’t think I’ll be buying any more calatheas. If you check out some of my more recent house plant tours you can see the kind of plants I collect now 🌿

I bought Ms. Stromanthe triostar about two months ago from and Etsy seller and she came with all the leaves damaged or the tips cut off. I am trying to save her! First of all, your choice in music blew me away. I love the blues. Wow, what a treat.
    Thank you for the very informative information regarding our beautiful prayer plants. Although I have been collecting houseplants for years; I am new to the world of tropicals. Recently, I got bold and cut off a few limbs off my leggy, lemon-lime marantha. What I found excited me so much, I had to share it with you all. I rooted them in water. I read somewhere that if you add a cutting of Pothos to the water (along with your new cuttings) that supposedly, it somehow motivates the cuttings to root quicker. I had to try it. Guess what ? It worked !!! I tried some of my cuttings along with some Sansevieria snake plant cuttings and got the same result. No fooling. I have not yet moved my rooted cuttings to soil yet. I am trying to decide whether I want to plant them back in the same pot with their Mother, making the plant much bushier, or whether to plant them alone.
    I might add that I am a huge fan of sprinkling all my plants with cinnamon, all cuttings, breaks, soil amendment, etc. Cinnamon is anti-fungal, antibiotic and aids in promoting healthy roots. I cannot say enough good stuff about the use of cinnamon with plants of all kinds.
    ** I absolutely love your videos, your accent is lovely, you are beautiful, educated and passionate about growing healthy plants. The plant community appreciates your time and effort. I look forward to watching and learning as much as I can from your videos.
    I also appreciate the links you add along with soil recipes, and more information to help us be successful. Beautiful job my friend. Thank you so much.

    I almost lost my pinstripe calatheas because I had been watering it like you said and it was next to the humidifier and I use a warm mist humidifier because it doesn't make the furniture in the floor wet and seems to dissipate all over the room rather than in one area! But all of a sudden for some reason I forgot to water it when I was watering everybody else so it didn't like that one bit!!! So I bought some of those glass globe self waterers and it did really well with that set up. Because I figured out it needed to be evenly moist but not soaking wet I bought a medallion about three months ago and it's doing beautifully. Growing new leaves and no dry spots on the leaves they're all beautiful. I've just ordered a Orba Folia like you're so I have the little watering Globe already

    Actually your “stromanthe triostar” is in fact a “stromanthe magicstar”.😉
    The white variegation on the triostar are larger and wider. And the variegation on the magicstar’s leaves look more like splotches. That’s how you can tell the difference.
    Great video btw!! I absolutely LOVE your Marantaceae collection!!❤️✌️

      this is why we can’t have nice things Thanks, someone else pointed this out. Mine was labelled up as Triostar.. I can see the difference now though after looking at some pics 😊🌿

    Thanks for the helpful information. I recently purchased a Calathea and need all the help tips. I now they are fussy, but it was to Beautiful for me to pass it by. Next will be a pray plant, I have found one not in a good condition. Good video. Thanks for sharing.👍🏼

    You have Wonderful plants. Also I like that you really try to picture how some signs of mistreatment look. It's one way saying that a plant doesn't appreciate a lot of light but knowing what signs the plants gives you is really helpful. - I got a Maranta for my birthday and what to inform myself how to care for it. That's said. I have a calathea ornata and didn't know she belongs to the prayer plants. Strangely it doesn't really move. The leafs are mostly in the "night/ praying" position. I thought it's because they orient themself to the light but now I am not sure about it. It actually gets a lot of light but doesn't curl it's leafs. Any idea?

    Hanna, your Stromanthe triostar is not a triostar, it is a magicstar. Here on youtube you can find a video of Kaylee Ellen about this fact.

    My favourite one is Calathea orbifolia . I got a small one over a year ago and now its massive but they are so hard to keep them happy. I get really bad leaf browning despite doing my best. Filtered water and humidifier in the room does not help. I find that the browning doesnt progress from about 70-75% humidifier in my room which is not achievanle at all on daily basis even with 2 humidifiers and my washing hanging in the room :/ winter climate is soo dry where I live :( it’s a challenge to bring it up to 50 sometimes

      I have only had mine about 6 months so I'm curious to see if it will continue to look like it does. If I can think of any more tips I'll make a new video :-)

      Tropical Plant Addict im pretty sure your will be doing great :) 6 months is usually long enough to see if the plant is happy and yours clearly are:) I find that the biggest challenge with those is humidity so if your home is humid enough for them not to develop browning up until this day then I’m sure they’ll be fine :) UK climate seems quite humid anyway

    I don't have any prayer plants yet, but I will probably buy one this spring. I have heard a lot of people say that some prayer plants are more easy and more beginner-friendly than others. So, as I think you are quite the expert: do you think this is true? Which ones do you recommend for a first time owner? Thanks! (:

    • @TropicalPlantAddict
      @TropicalPlantAddict  5 лет назад +1

      Laura Herregodts hmmm I wouldn’t say they are easy especially calatheas, they can be really fussy! I’d start with a maranta 😊💚🌿

    Hi Hanna, thanks for the video. I noticed the red backing on the leaves but also the Neon green on the others. Is this a mixed pot of Lemon Lime/Fascinator plants? My Lemon Lime has a green back on the leaves. I have flowers sprouting from My Baby Lemon Lime. I thought since this is the first time I’d let her experience this. ( Like You do a Female dog. The expensive of Motherhood)? What do You do? What are the Pros and Cons of this? The flowers aren’t spectacular or smell good. Does this ZAP the plant of strength? Help Me out. ✌🏿
