@Alejandro-gk9jw So completely agree. I can only imagine she was also being misled by managers, record label people, producers etc. Still abusing at that time. How can anyone listen to these songs and not think how great they would have been.
I like ‘Nobody’s Daughter’ though, there were songs on that album that are not on this version that are great and some songs needed rocking up a bit such as ‘Loser Dust’ and ‘Happy Ending Story’ but others were better on this version. I mean this version is released, not officially but we have both.
I actually prefer a lot of the songs from the official album. Pacific Coast highway in particular is better on the album imo Depends what you prefer. This version is more acoustic /Country influence. The album is more rock which is who Hole are at the core
This is without a dought courtneys greatest album ever. I absolutely love this version. This album is my number one favorite album of all time and ive been buying vinal since 1977.
I remember when this was released…I used to be on the official Courtney Love web forum, 2000-2010 era…she struggled, fell apart beat cocaine addiction and I remember her posting about writing these songs in rehab 2004 ish…loved these versions they were raw and honest. she has my much respect ✊ because she pushed through her struggles and I still get misty eyed listening to these versions because I know addiction (cutting myself) self harm free sense 2014…❤️ just as addictive as any substance, that adrenaline rush of chemicals in my brain 🧠 VERY hard to break…😵💫 To anyone who knows someone that struggles with addiction, depression, PTSD, schizophrenia, mental illness, anxiety, autism, Tourette’s syndrome, fragile X syndrome, ADHD and many things in between, always be kind to them…I also have autism as ms. love at one point mentioned she has…💕
Raw & Honest Musicians are The Best. Courtney Love is a very Strong Woman . She has my Respect as well. I truly love your Utube Post. Thank you!!! I totally understand where you've been and I couldn't agree more ❤
I've been there with you & through my darkest times music has always been there for me. Courtney's especially because it's so relatable. And I know she speaks with raw emotions.
It sucks that this album flopped, cause it's a actually a great album. I've always loved the rawness in Courtney's voice. She's a great and unappreciated artist.
In my opinion this is courtneys greatest work. This album puts me right where I want to be. Thank you Cortney Michelle love you are respected and loved my miss Leigh.
Damn, in my opinion the quality of this version is so much better than what was released. The production and mixing has a lot more depth and feeling. With that said, I still love the version we got.
this is definitely the best work of Courtney’s; and that is a huge claim coming from me who had over 6500 minutes of hole on this years Spotify wrapped. it’s such a shame that this version was never released becuase it’s insanely better than the hole version, ive seriously cried over the fact that this was never released anywhere. beautiful heart wrenching lyrics this is the most raw courtney has ever been the only good thing that came out of the studio version of nobodys daughter is honey.
Love the released version of "Nobody's Daughter," but honestly this version is much better. It is just as gut wrenching, but there's an oddly American sound that is most accessible. Relatable. "I'm out there dying for you baby. I've got your blood on my hands." Powerful. It's hard to pull off rebellion and resignation at once. They did it!
I attribute the difference to the fact that the released version was recorded in NYC. The 'NY' accent gives a different 'sound' to the whole thing because they hear the frequency spectrum in a 'NY' way. Nashville too has it's own particular sound. To producers and engineers, the different regions are very apparent. Mics, rooms and fx are important, but in the end, it's the ear of the people doing the tracking and how the monitors are biased. I use two different consoles in my studio, an Alesis X2 which is pure 'LA sound' with it's mods, and a vintage Hill Audio, which of course is that pure English sound. They are as different as day and night. It's obviously more complicated then that, but it's very apparent on THIS project. Courtney sounds best in an 'LA' sounding studio. She hears the dialect and the 'shading' of her dialogue is shaped by it. It doesn't sound 'natural' when she is intimate on the microphone when she records outside that LA environment. This is better than what was finally released as a Hole album. The released version seems over-produced, and it doesn't really feel like Hole (for obvious reasons). This could have gotten huge critical acclaim, I think, had it been what was actually released. I wish Courtney would put out a new album. It's been way too long.
I feel exactly the same. She overworked these songs and wrapping it all in the ill fated “Hole” reunion packaging (with only one original member present) didn’t help matters. When demos leaked in the years prior, the critical acclaim was already buzzing. People were expecting this to be her greatest record, critics were saying this would be her “Blood On The Tracks”. I hope someday she goes back to these original solo sessions and releases a collection with what this album could’ve been.
Her voice really doesn’t have a distinct range but it’s awesome. I just stumbled across this tonight on RUclips. I love this album she’s another Joplin.❤❤
this is way way better than what she released. though i do like the title track on the one that was released. the cellos are great. lyrics too BUT it isn't to say the version on this is bad. her vocals are better on this.
I love the title track of the released album. It's a really wicked Courtney behind such heart-obliterating delivery. This woman has to hold really deep and complex emotions
