Well I'm back again. Thank you for including the valve cover bolt torque specs and tightening pattern. You won't believe what it looked like under my valve cover... ☠☠
@@BuckeyeBallistics we'll find out but it's not just because of the racing. I suspect that the can was defective; there's plenty of cars with that motor out on track.
I just had my manifold replaced at a shop and they forgot to tighten the nuts that hold the pcv tube. It smelled awful, and I was like how the hell does it come back from a shop worse than before?? I just tightened them up (there was like a 1/8th inch gap between the flange and the valve cover, and cross my fingers I think the smell is gone!! Does this make sense?
If it worked, it worked. But I don't think you would get exhaust smell from the pcv. You mean the egr tube? And it would be typical to get a few weird smells for a day or so after having that done, as the new part, gaskets, and grease and such that they probably got on the exhaust would burn up and smell a little.
I can't recall. But yes obviously one would be wise to go ahead and do so while the cover is off if they plan on keeping the vehicle very long. Allthough I will say, at the time of this video, the car had well over 200,000 miles and is a 1 owner and had yet to leak any oil on the plugs. At 260,000 now currently and still dry.
Um, clean what? There is no sludge in the engine. Everything you see there will look just like that again after a few thousand miles, there is no point. It's like cooking with a skillet; the very first time you cook with it after cleaning it, it's dirty again. The inside of an engine is just hot oil splashing around constantly against metal. Hot oil stains the metal over time, no big deal. That's like saying clean the inside of your tailpipe; no, it'll just get dirty again. If any part of the engine would benefit from a thorough cleaning, it would be the valves and pistons, as carbon actually does build up over time and rob performace, and there are products for that. No part of the engine where oil travels needs to be cleaned unless it was neglected of timely and proper oil changes. This car has only had full synthetic oil every 5000 miles and premium fuel since day one, as we are the original owners. Still runs like it did with 50k, and it's at 250k now. Trust me, that little bit of oil stain that's *everywhere* is fine. Sorry to ramble on, but it's not necessary and there is no benefit. Pop the valve cover back off after another 10,000 miles and I bet it looks the same again.
You do a very excellent job of hitting on the important points. Thank you. Sadly, I'm about to need the advice...
Thank you. I'm subscribed to you btw, funny you ended up on my channel. Welcome!
@@BuckeyeBallistics that's super cool! I'll make sure I'm subscribed to yours too, if not already 👍
Thanks bro, love your rolla.
I like the use of curse words.. makes me feel like he knows what he’s talking about
I'm not sure how accurate of an examination that is, but I'll take it lol.

Becuase of the racing or? Over 200k on this one in the video...

Great video! About to replace gasket on my 2006 XRS. Would you happen to know the torque specs for the PCV tube nuts?
Thanks, and unfortunately I do not.
@@BuckeyeBallistics No worries - thanks for the quick reply.

@@BuckeyeBallistics at 5:42 you are putting the nut on it. that thing was wide open
About to do this job tomorrow. Thank you for the informative video. Do you need a gasket for the pcv vaulve?
I just stuck mine back in
Did you also replace the spark plug tube seals too at same time?

2:53 do you know the parts number for that gasket? i’m replacing mine but not sure where to find the part
I had to do some digging to get this for you. Toyota part #1225588600 "ventilation gasket."
thanks!
Yup
That valve cover is pretty tragic dude. I took those studs out for the breather pipe and replaced with stainless steel bolts.
You can at least clean the motor like I doon my 03 vibe gt .
