      @DavidRichardson153 7 месяцев назад +2

      Being an OG EU fan boy, I am actually someone who never particularly cared about the whip. I never disliked it, sure, but I never felt any real thrill over it. It was pretty much just a "Oh, that's a thing, I guess," because I agree with Bob in that the ridiculousness of the lightsaber kind of overrides anything else about it, so the lightwhip (as it has been called) has been... not so much nothing period as it is nothing to get in any way emotional about. Yes, I am aware that this is merely my take, but I refuse to even tune in the fake hate around Star Wars.
      Also, don't bother with Rebel Moon Part 2. You're just getting what amounts to the extended/ultimate cuts for Batman v. Superman - maybe not so much in it just be the absolute worst (though it is pretty terrible), but in that you are effectively just getting more of what you didn't like about the first one.

    I want only one thing from Disney Star Wars: Do something interesting with the Sith. On the level of "Lana talking philosophy with Gnost-Dural and Tau."
    Looks like BioWare's still the only one doing anything interesting with the brand.
    I don't even dislike Disney Star Wars, it's just all the same. "Hey let's do Top Gun for the 10th time" and "Hey let's drag Ahsoka back in again" and "Hey let's do another story where the Jedi are too dumb to live" and I feel like you'd probably make more money doing something more unique. Like a Jedi and Sith having to work together to solve a mystery and they keep getting into Force religion bickering matches that occasionally escalate into duels. Would anyone want that? We won't know until someone makes it.
    Star Wars is such a safe brand you could just fuck around and find out, but they don't want to do that.

    “It’s fine” pretty much sums up my opinion on this and most of the SW serials. Only complaint about this one is I could do without the setting captions. For almost a dozen feature films context was enough to tell us we’re on Coruscant, Geonosis, Tattooine, etc. Not sure why anyone claiming to be a SW fan would gripe about the whips. Those have been canon to the mythos for what? 30 years now?
    It’s hard to evaluate entries of this franchise anymore, since I don’t know how much our opinion on new material is because of how good or bad it is, or because it’s easy to take the material for granted these days.
    From roughly 1983-1997 we all wanted more Star Wars movies, but didn’t know if low-quality extended universe fiction was all we were gonna get. So if a series like this-or pretty much any of these-had come out ca 1988 I’d have said it’s the best thing on TV.
    Watching these feels like the franchise has come full circle. It was inspired by pulpy sci-fi movie shorts of the 1930’s, tv westerns and samurai movies, and now we have the streaming age evolution of those.

It had a fun wuxia vibe (a particularly Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon-esque scene in the premiere was neat, but sadly confirmed something I'd suspected from the trailers I'd seen), the mystery's intriguing enough (I did clock the first twist pretty early and was slightly disappointed, but it leaves some threads to explore), I'm looking forward to watching it. Could it all fall apart into fan service or bad plotting? Sure, but I'm willing to watch at least a few more episodes, probably finish out the season, given how short they are. They definitely didn't forget about Lumiya or Githany from the Darth Bane books that they definitely, absolutely read on a daily basis and can quote by heart to try and forget about all the terrible content from Disney Star Wars. Are you trying to insinuate that they actually never read the stuff from Legends and simply hate the new stuff for the sake of hating it?

    • @Alexzander1989
      @Alexzander1989 7 месяцев назад

      Last I checked, Lumiya's whip didn't go from standard blade to energy whip, hers was more of a cato ninetales with energy ribbons and crystal studded leather making up the multiple strands of her whip. And she had to use the handle (made of lightsaber resistant metal) to block lightsaber blows when she couldn't get the moment of her whip going and keep the enemy at a distance.
      Also Githany's whip was just a whip and didn't switch either. I believe in a comic adaptation she had a normal lightsaber on her hip as a backup, but her lightwhip was just a single energy ribbon.
      What we're seeing here is more akin to Ivy's Snake Sword from Soul Calibur series, except that thing is alive and operated with black magic to explain the shit she can do with it in game and such.
