The Inuit heritage is so worthy. I wish they could have other Inuits develop a program that takes them to other Inuits to teach them that rich legacy that is theirs by birthright. Others came in and “civilized” them and left nothing. It’s almost criminal to destroy that.

Average Economics prosperity in country’s coincides with a country’s average happiness, even thought “money doesn’t (technically) by you happiness”. One thing that they could do is Have an immigration program like the USA has had which will bring in a lote of wealth and improve the society as a whole since economics is not a zero sum game. Remember money isn’t wealth. Because if so, governments would be able to just print money and give it to everyone. Money is just a tool used to illustrate wealth to help improve economic transactions. Real wealth is in knowledge. A perfect example of this is when many of the rich people from Cuba where trying to flee the country for the USA because Cuba was communist and it had hard economic times. the Cuban government confiscated all of there money. However they couldn’t confiscate their wealth. The money runs out at some point. However wealth does not. They moved to America without a penny to there names. THE PEOPLE THEMSELVES are wealth. They worked hard and today Cuban Americans have a greater GDP than the entire Cuban Government. ( However a wealfair state and immingration is a deadly combination, which doesn’t lead to economics prosperity, it leads to less) the wealth of nations is in physical thing including knowledgeable humans. Wealth in general (money isn’t wealth) =happiness.

@@etow8034what about the fact that they have the highest rates of teenagers committing suicide? And this all the aboriginas in all the countries that westerners have taken over. I think that there is a conspiracy behind it. Call me crazy
Whether or not you sympathize with the greenlandic inuit, and consider sovereignty their right or not, the truth is that they have little to offer the world in terms of competent labor value, and this becomes a problem once you acknowledge that they still need to position themselves financially, somehow. Denying this is hardly more unethical than simply stating they should be free to rule their own nation. Greenland is already autonomous, but without financial aid from Denmark, how do you suppose they'll fare socioeconomically? Better? This isn't Braveheart or some movie. I can sympathize with their wish, and how it pertains to some of the populations idea of identity. But the reality is that if Greenland becomes a sovereign nation, China will likely knock on the door the same day. It is already well known that China is interested in Greenland for its raw minerals, and that Greenlandic politicians have shown willingness to trade with China - something both the US and Denmark has interfered with, and of course denied their right too. Now I hardly think much of politicians in the established nations of the western world, so excuse me for harboring some skepticism towards those who would potentially come to power in Greenland - a country where opportunities of great wealth would hardly come often. It is foolish to believe that Greenland wouldn't make deals with China, and even more so to consider their politicians to have no price. The harsh reality of Greenland isn't that the country is under Danish rule, 'nor that they don't have sovereignty (albeit it's part of the grand moral dilemma), but rather that they are of core interest to China and USA/Denmark (whom actively work together) I hope things improve for the citizens. Of course I do. I am Danish, and however we can improve their situation, we should - it benefits all in the end. However, for the Greenlandic population - especially inuit people - to see better days, they need to actively engage with the opportunities at hand. There's a huge cultural gap between their original ways of living, and that which is demanded of the modern world. That is the problem. I acknowledge that there's definitely a moral argument for sovereign rule, but as I stated early on it's hardly ethical to abandon them. Even if Chinese influence would be beneficial for the region, there's still the question of where it leaves the West. At the end of the day, any citizen of the western world should understand that there's little reason, if any at all, to let China broaden its grip on the poverty-stricken parts of the world. Do not underestimate the expansion of Chinese territory around the world; it's a part of their plan to create distribution- and trade routes that they manage, and whatever money flows through that is not going to gain the western world.
Native* capital N. I am Alaska Native, this phenomenon happens in Alaska as well. And I agree with you. China wants a stake in our oil, natural gas and other resources. hopefully there is a greater balance of economic success and Native cultural preservation in Alaska, Greenland and northern Canada.
the truth is these people always had miserable lives even before western rule. they were always on the brink of starvation, their prime motivator was immediate survival and their entire culture, society and family structure was based around this. without this constant striving for survival there isn't really much to do or much to living there, just a cold hard rock, where the young perish and the old linger.
Their lives weren't miserable. What's different is their lives once had a purpose. They don't have that now due in large part to Denmark's intrusion. Life was hard, sure, but they had a community and family to support each other. The introduction of alcohol to their native culture has devastated this structure. That's been the case with many Native American tribes as well. These people are genetically predisposed to alcoholism. That's why many US and Canadian reservations and Inuit towns are dry and alcohol is banned. If a population of 1,500 is burying a teenager to suicide every month it's time the town follows suit and ban alcohol.
My mom's family are white Scandinavians, from Norway and Denmark. They have problems with alcoholism and suicide too. My mom was bipolar and had insomnia. Maybe cold environments select for those kinds of genes.
I wonder if prohibition is practical there. It’s much more isolated from any other place, but anyone motivated by addiction or profiting off of addiction would be pressed to find a way.

They tried that and going to the big city was a disaster. We need foreigners to leave. Give us independence. Let us keep the money made in mining, fishing and oil drilling.

Focus on Healing Identity helps
The harsh reality of Greenland isn't that the country is under Danish rule, 'nor that they don't have sovereignty (albeit it's part of the grand moral dilemma), but rather that they are of core interest to China and USA/Denmark (whom actively work together)
I hope things improve for the citizens.
Do not underestimate the expansion of Chinese territory around the world; it's a part of their plan to create distribution- and trade routes that they manage, and whatever money flows through that is not going to gain the western world.

the truth is these people always had miserable lives even before western rule. they were always on the brink of starvation, their prime motivator was immediate survival and their entire culture, society and family structure was based around this. without this constant striving for survival there isn't really much to do or much to living there, just a cold hard rock, where the young perish and the old linger.
