  • "I just feel like i found a way to live like a normal human being."
I was utterly obsessed with Yang Se Yong in Sung Hoon’s role. His appearance, his insane smile, his cruel eyes, and everything that belongs to him are so charismatic.
In the beginning, I just thought that Sung Hoon was purely a psychopath killing people for fun, so I couldn’t imagine that I would deeply sympathize with him after that. Along with the drama’s progression, we all realize that he isn’t evil and psycho at all. All the murders he committed were just for survival and revenge. His humanity still existed through his treat with Soo Yeon. He possessed a vulnerable soul and just craved for love and care, but his surroundings turned him into a heartless person.
Over 12 years, Sung Hoon has been jailed and tortured by various experiments executed on his body. Because he was considered a "clone", he was created to research the cure of illness. In the meantime, he was also separated from his "brother" and thought that his mom was dead. These brutal experiences severely caused him much physical and mental suffering. Even though he was released then, he didn’t actually live yet. Endless pains overwhelmed and swallowed him that made him burned himself with alcohol in the whole drama. At the same time, he was dying due to his short lifespan, he had been waiting desperately for his brother to save him. The regretful part of this drama is their reunion didn’t happen earlier. I think that Sung Joon should have come to him right after he remembered everything. The serious misunderstanding between them and his mom led to her death.
The ending is bittersweet. The death of a serial killer is a must in kdrama. Anw, I think death is the only salvation for his painful life. Sung Hoon was captured in a lab for such a long time, it would be even worse if he was imprisoned for the rest of his life. After Sung Hoon accidentally shot his mom, he had gone too far to live as a normal human being as Sung Joon convinced. In fact, he didn’t inject the bone marrow immediately when he got it. Her death ruined his attempts to live. There are no meaningful things for him to exist in this bloody hell. Thus, he sacrificed his life to save his brother from being tortured like he was as a child. The last moment he called "Sung Joon" devastates and tears our hearts apart. In the end, Sung Hoon literally loved Sung Joon and forgave him. His death is so beautiful and heartbreaking. He fought his whole life to stay alive and ended up in a lonely and miserable way ☹. But at least, he found peace and let everything behind.
Yang Se Yong’s performance is actually mind-blowing. I have a deep impression of his portrayal of three different characters - Sung Hoon, Sung Joon, and Doctor Lee. I didn’t even realize they were the same person at the first time. I hope to see him in more psychotic roles like this XD.
