    Thank you, doctor. I read eggshell powder was a great source of calcium as well. It's also very rich of collagen that comes from the membrane of the shell. That is very good for the cartilage on your joints.

    For my gender and age, my daily calcium requirement is 1000 mg. I normally eat 1lb of 73/27 ground beef 100mg of calcium, 1 can of sardines 800mg of calcium, and 8 eggs 320mg of calcium. This puts me well over my requirement and I eat zero plants and nearly zero carbs (each egg has less than a gram of carbs).

      @@bryancarlson3673 hard cheeses like Cheddar are better than cottage cheese if you can eat them, they have even less lactose (carbohydrate) than cottage cheese.

      This very informative. I too have recently been experiencing tooth sensitivity since carnivore.
      My gums have also started bleeding since carnivore. Did you have bleeding gums as well and did the cottage cheese help?

    Brisbane, Australia. I enjoy all the comments. Calcium is critical in the blood, then less critical to potentially harmful in places it's stored. Tetany of life threatening kind is seen in patients who are hypocalcaemic after thyroid surgery - as an example.

    Hi Dr Berry, I have clinically diagnosed ALS or in Australia motor neurone disease. After a lot of research including mostly your advice, I started my new diet of mostly C grade mice, sausages,lots of fish oil , ketone booster and k2 7. (We can only find k2 7 not k2 4). I also didn’t change any medication or stop smoking, I didn’t want to shock the body. The change in 2 and a half weeks has been remarkable. I am rebuilding the lost muscle fast. I hope one day to thank you in person for the gift you have given us 🇦🇺❤️. It’s early days yet but I feel and look like I’ve wound the clock back 6months already. Thanks again and forever grateful.

      @@JYAN2852 it could be, to be honest I don’t really know why it’s working so far. It was mostly what have I got to loose. I had less than 2 years at most left at the decline I was having. It is mostly a guess you could say, I’m no doctor 😀

    Well, This is the video I am on so I'll post it here. My wife has been low carb for a week, she has HepC. She just got out of the Dr and he said " your levels are dropping "naturally". I can't start treatment if you are just going to fix it yourself! YAAAAAAYYYYY, blood monitoring for a month and MAYBE no treatment!!!! That has elevated me in this quest EXPONENTIALLY!

    We recently made bone broth from deer bones. If you know a hunter, request that they save the bones for you. Important, ask that they keep the bones cold or frozen until you get them. We first broke the bone to expose the marrow, then baked the bone for about 3 hrs. We then transferred the bones to a large electric roaster, covers with water and brought the water to a simmer for 24 hrs. With about 3 hrs left on the clock we added carrots, onion and garlic. Made the richest, darkest, most wonderful tasting broth I’ve ever had. Long process but worth it. Thanks Dr. Ken for all your informative videos!!

      Tip: Add a tablespoon or two of organic apple cider vinegar (with the mother) and you'll be able to get more minerals out of the bones.

      Ruminant bones are too strong to release much calcium even after days of cooking. I've seen the data from experimentation. Chicken and fish bones are softer and will release more minerals into the water. If you can find a reliable source of bone meal (ground bones), that's really the only way you get a good amount of calcium from ruminant bones. The main reason I use bone/meat/connective tissue broths are for their collagen content. 50% of your bones is collagen anyway so enough protein is one of the keys to healthy bones.
      Edit: I see Dr Berry talked about it taking days to disintegrate the bones enough, which is good, but I think it can take a long time and by that time there are probably too many histamines in the broth for many peeps...

      @@monroemusicnz Totally agree. Bone quality comprises of both rigidity (mineralization) and strength (protein matrix). We actually don't need that much calcium intake because more than 95% of filtered calcium is reabsorbed by the kidney. The current RDA is way off:(

    What about oxalates in dark greens, especially if they taste bitter. It is one of the plant's natural defences against predation. Some experts say that oxalates in vegetables tie up several important minerals in the human gut especially calcium and magnesium which are insoluble.

    Bone broth tips: vinegar is a must but the one that that changed our bone broth is using a real pressure cooker not the ones that are like instant pot or crock pot etc. those do not generate enough pressure and take longer to cook. When we cooked our bone broth in an instant pot we would cook it for the max time which is 120 mins. When we made it with instant pot it comes out like water after it is cooled. With a real pressure cooker 15 or 20 mins and you get much better results. When you make it with an old fashioned pressure cooker and after it is cooled, it comes out like gelatin.

      I’ve been doing bone broth in the crock pot. But, I put it on high after adding the bones, onion, carrot, celery, parsley, water, salt and pepper is to place it on high then reduce to low when I go to bed. I leave it go all the next day also. When cooled it’s always like gelatin. Delicious.

    I eat egg shells and softened chicken bones. Free calcium. I only buy canned sardines/herring/salmon in water. The ones in oil are already oxadized, including EVOO

    If you eat eggs, disinfect the shells (boil or bake) and grind to a powder. Half an eggshell contains more than a day's worth of calcium if I recall

      @@saints82 Cleaning egg shells is a must mainly due to possible salmonella that's all. What I usually do is I rinse them only then I microwave the shells for about 45s-1m. Microwaving kills any bacteria so. I then munch on small pieces chewing it to a fine powder before taking a bite of the eggs to wash it down with. You could also boil the eggs/shells before pulverizing or consuming which will do the same.

      @@saints82 I eat 1-2 whole shells but no more than thst at 1 sitting even if I eat more than 2 eggs. The shells are calcium carbonate so it's only 40% calcium. The intestines can only absorb so much anyway the remaining calcium will pass through and go out with the stool

    To be fair i don't think that leafs greens are a very good source my friend . They sure are a source and contain a fair bit on paper . But they also usually contain oxalates that inhibit absorption .

    Is it just me that thinks that the minerals in leafy greens are caught up in the fibre / fiber and most won't be absorbed ?? I think I'll stick with sardines which I've always liked, and full fat dairy products. I also love tahini. Thanks Doc for the video.

    Having too much calcium in your body from either not absorbing it correctly or getting too much of it can also cause calcium deposits in your breasts and then you get a mammogram and right away they think you need a biopsy, which then disfigures your breast and of course then they discover it is benign because it was just a calcium deposit. I agree, get it in food. I use kefir a lot, and cheese, but I think I have issues with my skin because of dairy, so I am going to have to try harder to make myself try sardines, or make more stuff like salmon patties.

    It's interesting that I just read an article about Mega doses of calcium in a person's diet. I was shocked to find out that if there is way too much calcium, the body will not be able to absorb it correctly and it will end up being deposited in very bad places. For years, I ate very large doses of calcium rich foods in Dairy form and I ended up having extra calcium deposits underneath my gums that are called Tori, I believe and they would push out of the skin until I could scratch them with my fingernail and pieces of calcium would just come off. If that was happening, then I can only imagine how it was affecting every part of my body including how my thyroid worked and my nervous system was misbehaving. Thank you for the straightforward and easy to follow information. You could really save someone from a heart attack. Sincerely, Carly

Look up a few brands on the net and also you will find a whole lot of information about it. It's great I'm combination with vitamin D3. k2 can be found in dairy like cheese and high doses in Natto Natural Vitamin K2 food sources include butter and whole milk from grass-fed cows, egg yolks, liver and bacterially fermented foods like mature cheeses and curd, and the traditional Japanese dish “natto,” which is made of fermented soybeans. Small amounts is found in egg yolk and meat

      Small intestines can only absorb a small amount of calcium at any givem time. So it's true that if you take too much in supp form most will just pass through you.
      Regarding soft tissue calcification, in the absence of vitamin D3 and K2 that will happen. A calcium deficiency will also result in the same scenario. Body regulates calcium very heavily so when serum calcium is low, the parathyroid hormones will actually leach (osteoclast) calcium from the bones (osteroperosis in the long run).

      @@JYAN2852 This was all new to me. I just noticed all the changes to my body and the amount of fatigue and weakness that I had last year. I started taking a vitamin D3 and K2 combination melt about nine months ago and that's when I noticed the calcifications under my gums receded. I have no doubt that I am malnourished but, sometimes in life you have to do what you have to do. As I can't seem to stop saying, my husband went in the kitchen last year on his birthday and I found him on his knees and I laid him down and he looked into my eyes and he mouthed,I love... and he died with my hands on his heart. I went into the smallest room of my house because no friends or family came and all I could afford was bread and butter so, I survived on that and prayer. With the prices of groceries going up so quickly and the loss of $3,300 of income a month, I'm doing the best I can just to keep the roof over my head. It is amazing how much the body will adjust to all the things we put it through. I lost a lot of weight and muscle. But, that's what I have been working on building back up. Eight years ago, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I pretty much live in constant pain and a whole myriad of bizarre effects. Nobody truly knows yet what this is about but, I often hear myself blurt out from my subconscious, I have a broken central nervous system. It affects my eyes and my hearing and I have burning sensations on my skin and only enough energy to do what I have to in 3 to 5 hours a day. Then, I have to go lay in a cool dark place with no electricity running in the room for hours. I have read many papers including from the Mayo Clinic and other professionals and I have to say they are off the mark on this. I know this is too much information but, I haven't gotten used to not having my friend to talk to for a dozen hours a day. I married a genius and I miss that so much. Thank you for listening.     I do not get bloat if I remove oxlates and nightshades.
    I thought because of age, I should have more calcium so I had kale quite often.
    I got lump of calcium on each little finger.
    Now, I do nothing special except I added timed-release di-magnesium malate.
    I get enough calcium in food, as you say. No sardines, for me either. I take DHA for my fish oil.
    I don’t know that I need EPA.
    It seems like too much.
    I use organic light virgin olive oil, or ghee or grass-fed butter.
    ..butter is 3.4 mg per Tablespoon.
    I have a big salad when I can get fresh ingredients.

    Canned sardines twice a week. It could balance the omega 3:6 ratio too if we eat grain fed beef, pork and chicken.

      Stay away from any grain fed meat, the omega 3-6 ratio is way out of balance, too much 6, this is the result of animals eating corn. Corn is very toxic to begin with, contains 26 different mycotoxins AND 2 of them are carcinogenic ! Corn is the #1 largest grown grain in the world, that's why it's in everything, because it's cheap and can be mass produced. Soy beans are #2. Gotta read labels. Namaste

    I am more paleo nowadays, i've been doing a tbsp of blackstrap molasses everyday, it has some calicum, a lot of potassium and some magnesium. If it didn't have the carbs i'm sure people would be using it en masse.

    Dr Berry, after full Thyroidectomy I am on calcium supplements. Started at 600mg, then 1200, then 1800 and still way low. How much calcium is considered megadose? I heard our body really only absorbs 600mg at a time. Anything to help?

      Liver and egg yolks are nature's multivitamin, except for calcium and a couple of minerals, you get a lot from just 100g of beef liver.

    Guess you have heard this crap a million times......I am 73. Since i was under 10 we were told NO sat fat. As a result my Mom (dec.) took Tums every day for probably 30 years. I have always tried to eat/drink calcium rich dairy. 2% milk, oh how much have I used in 40 years? Am doing Keto, 3 months so far, down 20 lb. Bet I have watched 100 of your videos. I even convinced the husband to watch the mac. degen. one and believe it or not he is eating a cup of raw spinach a day. Many thanks to you Doc!

    I see a lot of comments about oxalates that haven't directly been addressed in any Dr. Berry videos. Many of these foods are supposed to be "good" for Keto but seeing more concern by fans. Please address or link where you've done so previously.

      There is one video he did where he touched very briefly on oxalates but not nearly enough. I'm assuming because he hasn't studied it. If you don't know about them do a search for Sally k Norton on RUclips and you'll come up with a bunch of interviews she's done about oxalates. Very interesting stuff and a lot of people getting better after lowering their oxalates.

      Dr Berry said at his previous youtube, you should get enough sunlight everyday and eat greeny leaves to get magnesium. Those are the way to cure high blood presure.

    Regarding plant-sourced calcium: what about the anti-nutrients (e.g. phytates and oxalates) that bind to or block absorption? Any concerns about the countless phytotoxins found in plants? Is grass-fed bovine bone meal a good source of the full suite of bone minerals including calcium, phosphorus, boron, magnesium, potassium, sodium etc.?

    *Come on, Dr. Berry, admit it* - you either saw me commenting about this recently, or one of your carnivore youtuber friends told you someone was commenting about that (probably me), so that's what led to you wanting to do this video. :) And that's exactly one of the big questions I've had lately, how on earth carnivores can get enough calcium. Okay so you've covered calcium - but that still leaves *potassium and magnesium.* And on a side note, I heard in one video that we don't really need 1,000 - 1,500 mg a day of calcium, and that some people do fine with about 400, or something like that. I don't know. FYI folks - I use whole fat organic mozzarella sticks for it. Was also eating sardines for a little while after many years avoiding fish, but after only a short time can't stand them anymore for some reason.

    Could you please explain the diet break/ refeed? Some people say we need it for metabolic adaptation. I’ve been on carnivore for 4 months . I only lost 8 pounds . I do OMAD as well. I’m stalled and not losing a pound. By the way I watched your video on why not losing weight on Carnivore . Any suggestions ?

      I stalled too after a few months. Don't know of it'll work for you, but what I did was to adjust the fat/Protein ratio...more fat but kept protein about the same.
      Resumed weight loss within the week. Good luck.

      @@annbrown3037 I eat 3-4 pound of lamb and 4 eggs daily. Sometimes I eat organ meat as well. Some days also I eat 1 to 2 pounds of steak with butter. I do OMAD daily too. How do I adjust the protein/ ratio in my case?😣thanks for your help

      @@puertoricolife2893 well, that's a lot of meat to begin with.
      From all the info I've managed to find, a good guide for daily protein intake - dependant on activity (high performing athletes will need a lot more than me for example) and age + gender - sits around 1.5 - 2.0 gm protein per kilo ideal body weight.
      Personally I find it difficult to get in more than 2.0gm although huge body builders like Dr Baker gets throigh something like 5lbs + per day.
      On the basis that 4oz of lean beef contains about 30gm protein -slight differences for other meats - you may be able to lower your protein and up your fats to achieve different results.
      Full fat dairy is a good way to do this if you can tolerate them. Frying everything in butter is my fave way but also put good chunks of butter on everything. And in my coffee.
      We are all different physiologically and have different aims/goals.
      What I can say though - in the absence of carbs - more fat = more weight loss.

    This is absolutely crazy (Not you Dr Berry). I've just stated Carnivore and all that you've said here with dairy doesn't apply to get calcium. Also I have previously been eating dark leafy greens for many years and feel I have high amounts of oxalates in my system, that could potentially cause a lot of health problems on carnivore. I'm confused on what is best.

      Calcium supplements are dangerous because are prescribed for people wih weak bones... But the main issue in not the deficiency of calcium, it is the vitamin k2 that delivers calcium from the blood to the bone, and the thus this passion that may be already getting enough calcium from their diet but low k2, end up having kidney stones, and clogged arteries with that access calcium in the blood, if they just ate more greens and salad 🥗 to get k2 they will not have to take calcium as a supplement at all. I hope that was helpful.

      Most plants contain calcium depending on the soil where it's grown on. For parsely it's minimal I think bc it's an herb. You can google for nutritional facts

As one who suffered a kidney stone while supplementing calcium (and not drinking adequate water if I'm honest), I would like to know your opinion on Calcium, kidney stones, and dehydration. How much of a kidney stone is caused by dehydration vs. over-calcification? And on the subject of stones (kidney and gall) and their prevention, have you heard of chanca piedra, and do you have an opinion on it?

    I think this is a bit dated. There are no more sources of "bones in" canned fish. All I see in every grocery store are sardines without bones. The same for other types of canned fish.

      Yes, too much of the wrong kind ie supplements and too much in the wrong place ie taking vitamin D without K2 and leptin signalling problem.

      Too much calcium supplement without D3 and K2 will cause calcium to deposit in soft tissues and arteries. But not enough calium will do the same as the parathyroid hormones will leach calcium from the bones to replenish the body's caclium needs (osteoperosis). We constantly pee and sweat out minerals, including calcium, thus why we need to intake it daily from most bioavailable sources
