      @HardkoreHiggins 2 года назад +4

      Yeah I do the same after the seedling stage! Lights are 5.feet above full blast!!! Like he said when it's higher up it touches way more space while your plant is growing its growing all directions intil they detect something in there way like another plant or wall!!! This plant is amazing I did an experiment where I didn't defolate any leaves and I noticed the plant was using the leaves like fingers pushing branches away from each other, the crazy thing yet I have seen was there was some.leaves covering bud sites and if it can't help with pushing the plant will litterly eat the leave up,the leave will dry up & crisp up just for that lower bud site! Like Dan said the plant is alot smarter than we know!!

      Over the years I've really started viewing plants more as immobile creatures, than inanimate objects. Of course they're have extreme intelligence (genius)...they're living "things" that have many needs, but can't move
      It HAS to be smart to survive/thrive

      V3 has more diodes and a little extra wattage, so it is brighter for sure (and more blue spectrum than the V2, which supposedly supports better finished quality?). honestly though, the V2 will give you great/comparable results. I’m growing in tents, so with height restrictions I typically dial both lights back to 75-80% power to avoid stress/bleaching, then week 5 thru 7 of flower, I push them to 100%. I’ve found that is the time my fruits/flowers put on the most weight

    for higher wavelengths beyond the visible spectrum (IR), do plants need the IR-source to be boosted in power output to do anything to the plant leaves? thinking the opposite of UV wavelengths, which require very little boosting in power to cause a photo response, higher lengths such as IR might need more a boost. that's just my impression, has anything been done in a lab to prove the needed output (for photo response in plants) on artificial IR devices?

    Great info. The only thing I would not totally agree with is the uv part of the video. Uvb is actually what you want to create more terps/oils. The more intense the uv ( and Uvb is way more intense than uva) the better. We have done lots of R&D on this. Higher intensity but with pulsing has a better effect on cannabis anyway. But that being said. Some strains like and some strains dislike UV spectrum.

    Hey I had a photoperiod seedling one day get an extra 2 and a half hours of darkness (so a total of 8 hours and a half) and it didnt get that beginning part of light for the day like it usually did (so it had 15 hours and a half) instead of the usual 18. Do you think it couldve hermed from that point? I've been dreading the thought since I've had to kill a herm a few months back.

    • @bionicca
      @bionicca 2 года назад

      I'd say not likely
      An interruption during the normal 12/12 dark time would be more likely to do that...but extra dark time (other than shortening the amount of time to be productive during lights on) shouldn't have any negative effects
      In fact, ever since I learned that the main process that occurs during the dark time, is the buildup of the hormones that the plants use to build flowers once light is next available...I experimented with giving slightly extended dark times, and I'm quite sure as long as you have more than adequate light, and match that with water/nutes and CO² proportionately...that you can boost plant productivity to a degree

  • @LAndre2874
    @LAndre2874 2 года назад +1

    okay so he was talkin about having the light further away would be better than the intense close, what do you do when you only have so much space for instance my 10 is only 5 ft tall and I am I already in my second week of Veg, shes probably 20". so if I raised my light isn't she going to stretch towards the lights? therefore causing me to run out of room

    • @repoillicit2196

      Maybe try the 12-1 method for veg(12 hrs on 5 1/2 off 1 hr on 5 1/2 off) and then 6-18 or 8-16 flower method. From what I’ve read the 12-1 method decreases the stretch in the 1st 3 wks of flower. I haven’t tried this method but I’ve seen the research and numbers on it. The plants avg 50 to 100 more gr per yield…

    • @paddington1670
      @paddington1670 2 года назад

      Vertical. You can hang the bulbs and get 360 degrees of light and do a stadium grow with plants on tilted platforms towards the hanging lights. 3 IKEA shelves high for hanging 400 watts or 5 shelves if doing 1000w. I did vertical stadium growing years back on ICMAG. My posts are still there. Cant/no point in doing vertical with LEDs because theyre only good for horizontal planes, but with a 360 degree light source, you _REALLY_ should be doing vertical stadium growing. Flex the strengths, I was getting double the standard gram per watt of the era doing vertical with HPS instead of horizontal. I dont do organic or HPS any more, but here's what I was doing and it worked very very well (auto watering from a sump pump to 1/2" tubing(air hole purge for antisiphon) to drippers - worm tea every watering, 50/50 promix fox farm add cup worm castings per gallon pot size, 84F, 40%RH, dripping on plants below doesnt negatively affect them but try not, high temp dries them out fast)

    • @omar.v
      @omar.v 2 года назад +1

    What are the negatives for running 20/4

    Does anyone know is their much difference in Co2 levels between a 4x2 grow tent (day time) with lights on, compared to a 4x2 grow but in a open grow room running at night ?

    • @skepticalgenious
      @skepticalgenious 2 года назад

      That is a complex question. Is there anything adding co2? To either room. Aka you or a animal. This will increase co2. Let's say I was growing a plant with 2 adults who sleep in the same room. This can increase co2 from 350 to 600ppm. However a tent doesn't benefit from me breathing as much. Its.... Well in a closed off tent.

      @@skepticalgenious I can't afford a quality Co2 detector to measure the amount of Co2 in my grow space. I was wondering how much of a difference of having a large area my plants grow in compared to a tent.
      Lets just say im surrounded by a forest, how much Co2 do tress give out at night ?

      @@12lippylucy well first take what I say with a small grain of sand. I grow outdoors my whole life. This is my own personal experience currently indoors.
      So my own set up is legit a cardboard box wrapped in the plastic Sarah food wrap. So it is sealed. If it's sealed you should add co2 in any form. I am doing a tedious yet super cheap co2. Yeast in plastic bottles. Add sugar when needed. Keep the cap slightly unscrewed to allow the gas to escape. Yet disallow other bacteria. I have kept this yeast alive for over 100 days. Although now it eats the sugar stupid fast.
      So if your in a open area. Or even outdoors. The co2 naturally at sea level js like 400. I'm not measuring cause I'm doing a grow for $80. 😂 however once i added it. I feel it was close to 1200. After it I could push nutrition and light and push that girl hard

    When the lights go out, the smell in the room changes. That must mean something to the plant. Any idea what?

    Chris, before the interview, if the person isn't lit well, maybe ask them to fix their lighting. A lot of them aren't lit from the front at all.

    The whole ir thing throws me off a bit. I understand that ir can be used for photosynthesis. What I don't get is that different experts are saying different things regarding its usefulness in grow lights. Shane and Dr. Bugbee have both said that it can provide boosts in growth and have also said that it's more cost effective to stay within the 400-700 NM range. Dan has been pretty hardcore on ir since he started designing his lights. What is your opinion on the subject? I'm looking for the work Dr. Bugbee has done which Dan is talking about but the only thing I'm seeing is from 2019. My understanding of that study was that it can be utilized but causes less response than just using a diode within the normal par range.

      As far as I am aware the only true benefit to infrared is that it penetrates the entire way through the plant down to the lower Buds and leaves just like Greenlight does.

      @@yrntthelibswipedofftheeart16 I mean Dan makes it sound like they enhance growth more than other NM wavelengths up to 5% by maximizing the mechanisms within its photosystem. I'm think im going to add some to my grow light and see if I notice anything.

      @The Green Sunshine Company thank you for the reply. I went back and watched more of Dr. Bugbees videos regarding the subject to understand the science behind the subject better. I have ordered some to wire into my light to see the results. I already have some but I think I need far more to achieve any noticeable benefits. I had given thought to the subject before but moved on to other subjects. This video reminded me of it again.

    I use a lux meter. Whatever my lux is I just divide that number by 3.05. An that gives you your par number. Am I right?

    If you mess wi5h any kind of camera and the exposure and brightness and you'll see how bright and extreme the sun's light is. I was doing this the other day and when the sunlight hit the leaves with playing around with my phones settings the light looked like some Sci fi movie where the sun's light is ultraviolet was hard for me to understand but our eyes and brains compute the world we see but the intensity of the light was far beyond what we see when the camera showed me we don't even precicieve the tree spectrum of the light from the sun. That's why outdoor grows if done right will be the best cannabis compared to artificial light

    34:04 - I don't think he did say it was important to have an even canopy. He said it is a three-dimensional shape I would assume a bubble type shape coming off the light. If you want to be super accurate you'd want your canopy the same shape as the three-dimensional image of your light intensity.
