She is the Mama of Maya Rudolph former SNL alumni. When Maya came back to host SNL some years ago, she honored her mother during one of the breaks where they have the still photo of the host. She dressed in the same blue jean jumpsuit holding an ice cream cone like the cover of her mother's album. At that time I don't think alot of people knew Maya was Minnie's daughter & might have missed the tribute unless they knew. You can look it up online to see it. Gives me chills because Minne died of breast cancer when Maya was very young. I think she was 9.

Won't even deny that this has always been my favorite Minnie Riperton song from the moment I discovered it. "Lovin You" is great, it's obviously a classic & probably the song most people know her for. But this song.. it just has something to it that's so good. Always my fave. Her voice is just phenomenal.

  • @michaelfreeman6608

Minnie was a gift from the sounds of heaven. "Will you come inside me" was more of a metaphor for two people being as one. It is often interpreted as sexual but it was not necessarily the intent. The song is like a beautiful painting by an artist once completed, It's meaning can vary by the viewer or in this case the listener anyway they feel it. Which makes it a masterpiece.

Minnie Riperton is, and always will be, FANTABULOUS. Other favorites of mine by her are "Les Fleurs" and "Reasons". And the lost gem, " It's So Nice (To See Old Friends ", I never tire of. It's got a little country flavor to it. I used to think it was Olivia Newton-John on backing vocals. I've always loved listening to " It's So Nice..." and Olivia's song "Sam" back to back. I just think they sound so nice together! 😊

Something that I adore is that in recent film history, there have been two great movie "needle-drops" using Minnie Ripperton.
"Inside My Love" appears in Quentin Tarantino's JACKIE BROWN with Pam Grier. And "Les Fleurs" appears in Paul Thomas Anderson's INHERENT VICE. And the icing on the cake is that Tarantino and Anderson are friends, and Minnie's daughter Maya Rudolph has been Anderson's longtime companion for over a decade.
"Les Fleurs" is also used well in Jordan Peele's US, albeit for a different emotional effect.

I am so glad to see that you have reacted to this one. And you are right, Amber, there is no doubt what this song is about.
I think the thing that may be unique about Minnie's vocal talent is not just that she could reach those high notes, but that she could actual words up there too.
You could also check out "Les Fleurs", "Perfect Angel", "Memory Lane"

Minnie died so young like Karen Carpenter in their early thirties both of them!!

That picture is from her Perfect Angel album. This song is from the Adventures in Paradise album. Baby This Love That I Have is the first song on that album. It is also a MUST for you to react to. Also, Here We Go from her final album. Her duet with Peabo Bryson is too much!!! She did this while dying from breast cancer.😢 My three favorite Minnie songs.

Legend has it that she recorded most of her songs while she was sick.😢❤

She was the epitome of Mother nature with her baby breath flower look. She is invited him to her love....body, soul, realm.
Next listen must be "Les Fleurs" her meaning of the birds, and the bees.

Love your reactions! I'm a bit surprised that there is no Lady is a Tramp (Ella Fitzgerald with Frank Sinatra).

Ok one of my favorite singers of all time I think she passed when I was around 12 or so. Her voice is immaculate, when this used to come on the radio when I was a kid I used to be like what is she talking about?!😂

“Our” music, the #realmusicians …#realmusic…can never be matched, duplicated or replicated. These artists created sensuality through verse, through vibe, through instruments…not by “stripping everything off.”
