Yes, and he will actually get better. Y’all kill me saying a high handicapper can’t play a certain iron. The BIGGEST marketing gimmick in Golf is saying someone need a forgiving iron. Just practice and get better because your game will never improve properly playing those big bulky irons. Look at Charlie Woods, he has been playing blades since the beginning.
Most golfers don't practice, man. For most of those, pick an iron with at least a bit of forgiveness instead of P7TWs. But a combo set definitely expands that. And something like a Callaway triple set even more.
Guys, I was gaming a combo set Taylor Made P770 (2023 model) in 3-5 and the P7-MC 6-PW. They were great when I first had them fitted 1-1/2 years ago with Mitsubishi MMT 55 gr. Senior flex shafts. Since I was coming back to the game after a 25 year hiatus I was having to re-groove my swing and rebuild my golf muscles. I went from a 7 handicapper to scratch during this time. About two months ago I started noticing that a majority of iron shots were pulling to the left and figured my hands were getting way ahead of the club head because of the very light and whippy shafts. I talked to a fitter and he agreed that might be the problem. So I got fitted with the new P7-CBs with the Dynamic Gold Mid 115 in Regular flex. I really liked the change from graphite back to steel and the added weight and stiffness seemed to have corrected the pulling problem. So, I ordered a new combo set because the cost to replace the shafts was near what I would pay for a new combo set including trade-in, loyalty points, and first responder discount. I was delighted to try these new clubs so I went with the 2024 P770 in 4-6 and the P7-CBs in 7-9 fitted with the Dynamic Gold shafts. They are beautiful! Now, here comes the scary part. The first time I tried them on the simulator, I will be honest, I struggled to hit them solid especially the P770's. I didn't have much of a problem adjusting to the new cavity backs because I believe they are so similar to my old muscle cavities. Anyway, I did a gapping session and I still was losing confidence in these new irons and my game. The first two rounds out on the course were somewhat of a disaster. I was even hitting shanks - I never shank the ball. Overall it was just a hot mess of toe hits, shanks, fat shots, you name it. I was in a panic! I told myself to just clear your mind and focus on solid swings and forget that these new irons were, uh, NEW. Yesterday I had a great round and shot -2, 70. I had a glorious time and I am now in love with my new set. I am hitting the ball a little higher, my baby draw is back, and I can once again shape my shots with ease. My landing angle has improved where all shots that hit the green are a one-hop-and-stop affair. Extremely happy with my decision to get these and switching to steel. I don't understand the bad press heaped on Taylor Made. I love their irons, wedges, and putters (metal woods is another story) and I believe the new P770/P7-CB combo is the top in the industry at the moment. I really appreciate your videos - keep them coming, I'm a big fan!
The CB’s look uncannily similar to the Taylormade RAC irons from 20 years ago. I remain unconvinced that there’s a substantial upgrade from one to the other.
I will be looking into this directly in a few months (putting money away now). Currently have the rac os in my bag now. Took tens years off and getting back into things. I am thinking they cant be too far off with 20 years of improvement. They remind me a little more of the rac lt from about the same time. Basically a thinner, smaller version of the rac os. They even had a stock combo set of the rac lt and the rac blades.
@@RabidDingleberryRAC OS are nothing even close to the P7CB. Not exactly which RAC iron the op is talking about, guessing the rac tp. The tp is very similar yo the new cb. But the rac os you have are a game improvement iron. The sole width is almost double the size. The rac os 3 iron some is about the same width as the p7cb PW
Great review! Never been a taylormade fan played a bunch of their lineup over the years and never could get comfortable. Qi10 driver might be the first im planning on keeping in the bag for the foreseeable future
As a blade player (Mizuno 241) I found the P770 to feel better. Forget "soft", it just felts better - more lively. The CB were muted and I'd go as far as to say "dead" like soft clay. I don't like that.
Another great vid. Super well done on the detail involved in the tech with TaylorMade. Where I was on the fence between my last fitting either going with the TaylorMade MC's and Titleist T100's, I just did a TaylorMade local fitting and had better overall numbers and strikes with the new CB's also with some fair forgiveness and overall close in distance to my 790's. Still have love for the T100's but numbers and feel for me don't lie, I'm going with the TaylorMade CB's
You have to be careful you don’t bite on stronger lofted irons like P790. With slow swing speeds you’ll be hitting your shots low and they won’t hold greens. I would rather have a short distance with high launch that holds a green than worm burners with strongly lofted fake irons like the P790 was.
I'm a higher handicap player and just purchased the p7cbs and they're forgiving, long and by god do they feel soft! It's so much more rewarding when you pure an iron like this compared to a game improvement iron or even the p770s.
Do different years have small differences in the 770/790? If so, how do you know which one you have (when buying used)? You showed an old 770…so are their only two different models/versions?
I love the way you guys say the “old 770” they just came out last year. Plus you say they “catered” to the p790? They are 2 completely different irons. The p770 is smaller and thinner than the p790. I game the p770 2023 model and I went and played a round yesterday with the new p770 and other then looks there is no difference in them what so ever. They feel almost exactly the same and flight is nearly the same. They are just about the same irons. So not sure why you guys are making it out like the new 770 is so much better or different then the old because coming from someone who games them and played a whole round with the new ones, there isn’t much difference.
You can't take out the misses on the course. That shot on course could be a stroke or two. Do that a few times on course and the 770 becomes the better club for you.
Great review ,could you compare the new P770 to P790 ? I play jpx now and love them. I will start shopping for an upgrade when mizuno releases the new 925 line and now will throw 770, 790, I530 as well as jpx in the mix,..... thanks gents
9 hc here, which club should I be looking at for driving irons with the softer feel and still distance? something that will fit in between my 3w ND 5 IRON WHICH GETS ME 180M+
I would look into the new P770 4 iron. I have heard amazing things about it! Or the P790 4 iron too. Other than that Srixon makes really good Driving irons but they are thicker top line so it just depends what your after. Thanks for watching 🙌
@@canyonaromakes more sense. I live in the bay area California. I hit my t100s around 170. I’ve hit 189 on the trackman but I’m flushing it with 90+ chs. I was like jeez these guys are quick.

It’s not bad logic

I’m an 8 handicap and I play P770 4,5,6 and P7CB 7,8,9,P and I absolutely love them.
Gaming the Wilson Staff CB's. Can't imagine these being any better. I know you guys just tested the Staffs out so I'd be curious to hear a comparison.

P790 launch higher because of the cg just with less spin
I play the p790 don’t have any problems holding a green 🤷🏼♂️
It's mind blowing that its 2024 and we just figured out linear Cg in an iron set is ideal. Why was the 4iron Cg ever higher than a 7 iron...

Small correction, the forging is 2,000 tons not 2,000 lbs.
what is beeping in the background it's driving me crazy...
Thanks! I wouldn't have known unless you said something... Now I can hear nothing else!
How are these compared to PXG 0317T/CB?
great stuff fellas...more clubs to throw in the mix to try out
5 time!!!!! Cant wait to hit these things. Hoping thsy improved the feel on the 770s

Good stuff…really low descent angles on both of those irons for you guys (under 40°) though.
When forging, you are talking about tons. TM uses 2000 tons of pressure, witch is equal to 4000000, yes 4 million, pounds.

That is for sure true on the lower irons. I think you would see a bigger difference in the long irons

No way the total distances are correct with mid 80s swing speeds - what settings do you have in the Quad?
Not sure if you saw but we are in Denver. So our altitude is 5,280. Which adds 10-15% in total yardage

You should let a 30 handicapper who slices into homes with a 90° slice practice with those lol
I dunno, bro. Even demoing irons in jeans seems off haha.
