In Vedanta school of philosophy, the light is already there, but it is unseen by one until one tries to recognize it through 3 paths(knowledge, devotion, meditation) practices it daily for "clearing" the cloud of ignorance/darkness -- the state is called Satchitanananda in sanskrit, which is not equivalent to Enlightenment
