- The Tulum Mayan Ruins, dating from the 13th-15th centuries, is the the site of a walled city that served as a major port for interior Mexico. The ruins are situated on a 40 foot cliff overlooking the Caribbean Sea in Quintana Roo, Mexico, and are one of the best-preserved Maya sites anywhere. It is believed that Tulum was one of the last cities the Mayas built and inhabited.
Sitting along the east coast of the Yucatán Peninsula, the Tulum ruins are just a short distance from Playa del Carmen and are easily accessible from Cancun as well. The ruins are an extremely popular tourist destination and rightly so.
Come along for this full and complete virtual tour of the entire archeological site. Every building is viewed and the tour walks the entire length of the paths along the ocean.

I visited Tulum in 1980, Cancun was just being developed, The bus ride to Tulum was “hellish”, military with AK 47’s, fresh cut coconut milk for water, more military escort, Tulum opened up. What a sight!!! No ropes, no signs, no guide. We walked to the top of the pyramid. No beach access, no people down there. A fabulous visit. The airplane ride was fraught with delays & military immigration inspections & intimidation. All turned out better than good. I’m 70 now & this video is fabulous! Thank you folks for letting me travel thru memory lane. Kp

How much longer will the tulum
Beach be closed for?
They actually closed the entire Tulum archeological site for two weeks in May, but it is reopened again now. The beach is still closed and they are limiting visitors to 3,000 per day. A mask must be worn the entire time during the visit. They've not said yet when the beach will reopen.
Why there are crowds in tulum every day?
Mexicans and central americans are the relatives of the Aztec and Maya, possibly Inca before that. Maya became the Aztec if my memory serves me correctly. They evolved and prospered until the spanish inquisition where their language was forbidden and books were burned and culture demolished by the spaniards. Would be awesome to hear the actual language and not what some professors loosely translate.
