Just followed your guide to replace the resistor on my 2010 trafic camper. £20 for the unit from eBay so massive saving than a garage cost..all working perfectly now. THANK YOU 😊
Gonna replace this tomorrow on an Opel Vivaro, thanks for the tutorial, would've probably searched for the location of this resistor for quite a while without this video!
Thank you for posting this, really helpful. Mine when cold only lets me use setting 4 but when warms up 1,2 and 3 work so it’s probably the same issue as yours. Cheers
And you did this single handed whilst filming too, nice! very helpful, easy to follow, great with the text explaining what to do aswell! Il be doing this on sunday now, fun haha
Haha thanks, i really should have set up the tripod to have made it look a tad more professional but just didnt have the opportunity that day and still thought it was good to show how this was fixed. Best of luck with the repair.
Thanks for this - worked a treat. I couldn't get my fingers into the space where it plugs into the motor, so I cut the red and black wires and joined them with a phillips block.
Hello. It does not turn on like in your video. But when I'm driving on the road where there are big holes it turns on. Where there may be a bad connection. The contact you made is OK
Hi there, Yes i would say you have a loose connection somewhere especially if its occasionally working over bumps. You will need to inspect the various connectors, jiggle them and see what ones restore the operation. Sometimes the connectors can be taken apart and the contacts pinched a very small amount with pliers to tighten them.
Thanks for this, before i order this part this is the problem I am having... it isn't just number 4 that doesn't work, it is either on or off no matter what setting. When I start the van either it works or doesn't lol. What do you think this would be? Same thing?
It can be the resistor, or the plug that goes into it check it for burning or corrosion. Also check the motor to ensure the wires and plug that go into it are in good condition.
Same problem here (2015 model). Often off at startup, then comes on after a mile or so, often when turning tight bend so guessing loose connector. Plug to fan (from module) is hinged on pin at bottom, so just need to open top clip, hinge down then slide out. cant get further as havn't worked out how to get air filter housing out - cant't figure how to undo wiiring connector, or the hold down (looks like 4 rubber nuts).
@@fabiang6095 Hallo Fabian, wie im Video zu sehen, muss der Luftfilterkasten runter, geht aber recht unkompliziert. Erst den Schlauch lösen und dann kann man den Kasten einfach hochziehen. LG Stefan
Hi..if the blower doesn't work on any of the four settings is it likely to be the resistor or something else...have checked the fuse...thank you for the video.
Hi mate, excellent video!! I have this exact problem, only blowing on number 4, but I also have no lights illuminating the blower controls, is this likely to be solved by replacing the resistor?
I think that the actual illumination of the heater control dials is dealt with by a bulb behind them. Not too sure how the panel is removed to change the bulb but that would be what i would recommend investigating further.
No setting works even after replacing the resistor? First thing would be to determine if the motor is working, get two wires from the battery and supply 12v directly to the motor to see if it works. If it does not then you need a motor, if it does not work back through the system. It may still be a bad resistor unit, did the old one work at all, also check the fuses.
The fan on my 2013 primastar (same as vivaro/traffic) started failing occasionally then completely failed. Does not make a difference which setting. Reckon this is a faulty fan rather than the resistor?
If you can remove the fan and apply 12v directly to it with a power probe type device (or two wires) then you should be able to deterimine if it is the fan or the resistor
It would be worth inspecting the connectors for the resistor pack and the motor, as well as the components themselves to see if there is any obvious issues with them.
Don’t know if you can help, my 2005 Trafic has just had air con charged up and ever since when air con is on the engine fan runs constantly! Any ideas? Many thanks
I would not know a huge amount about the air conditioning system on these vans but there are quite a few vehicles that put a fan on when the air conditioning is running.
Just had it all apart, how do unclip it, mine is one without aircon.. and the connector on back comes off one side and is like on a bracket to move it up and down? A circle plastic pivot

Hi, My vivaro heater doesnt work all of the time except when i go over a bump and then it will spark into life!! Would this problem most likely be the resistor? Thanks.
It might be worth checking the connections going to the motor and the resistor, something could be loose especially if it comes back to life when you hit a bump.
Hi there, The air direction control would be a different thing, its a mechanical connection from the knob to the flap. Ill be honest im not entirely sure what way it is on these vans might be worth perusing the owners clubs, forums etc to see if its a common issue and what fixes are used. The cable might be damaged or the plastic on either the back of the knob or on the direction control flap might have snapped.
Your coolant system may need to be bled, the water pump may not be working properly, the heater matrix could be blocked or the valve that changes from cold to hot air is not functioning correctly. What is the engine temperature gague like, does it get up to temperature ok?
Was anything in the engine bay disconnected or possibly disturbed during this process? It could be unrelated to the resistor being changed, that is also a possibility. As with any engine management light there are many reasons why it could come on, so i would recommend having the van connected to diagnostic equipment to read the fault code in order to find out what it suggests is the fault.
Possibly the valve or flap in the dash/heater box that changes from hot to cold air, or the cable that actuates it. I cant say i know a great deal about these Trafics or their badge engineered variants such as vivaros. However i would recommend having a look on facebook or the internet for an owners club, group that is for them. A quick glance i see facebook has 'renault trafic owners uk' join and ask on there. It may be a common enough problem or at least someone with a bit more knowledge specific to them might point you in the right direction.
Thanks for the video! I have a question please. The point is that the 3 and 4 fan speeds work normally but 1 and 2 doesn't. Do you think the resistor is the problem too?
