Honey Duke and His Uke - Memphis Blues 1926

22/1/1926 recording of the Memphis Blues, Fox Trot Ukulele Solo by Honey Duke and His Uke, with (and I am quoting the label here) "intrusions here and there by Honey Duke".
"Honey Duke" aka "The Ukulele Ace" aka Johnny Marvin was a famous ukulele player and singer of the 1920's.
On the other side of this record is the 12th Street Rag. You can listen to that one on my channel too. (I used a better needle to play that side.)
Later that same year, 1926, Johnny Marvin re-recorded both these tunes as duets with guitar player William Carola for the Victor label. The rest is ukulele history.

It's probably just his mouth. I have a recording of his under another alias, Jimmie May on bell records and on that record he is definitely doing a sort of kazoo / attempt at a mouth coronet. it's quite odd, but really super cool, One of my fav records in my collection. The two sides are show me the way to go home and bam bam bamy shore.

I had always wondered if Honey Duke were Cliff Edwards or not. I didn't know Johnny Marvin did "effin". That's great! I have one Honey Duke on Radiex red wax.
