That’s doesn’t age well Goff had 4 and the lions won. Predominantly the Vikings don’t play well on the road in outdoor grass stadiums. That was a good team win and showed we are rock solid all around even without two major special teams players. We haven’t played a whole game all season tbh and we are 7-2. Lots of new pieces you can’t expect to be perfect. For some reason Ingram is still starting, koc needs work on play calling too. Some of the calls on offense this game really had me scratching my head
Darnold is who he has always been. Strong armed QB that cannot handle pressure. He cannot process fast enough, holds the ball, and then panics. This leads to sacks and turnovers, killing drives and resulting in losses. Vikings have done an admirable job winning despite his flaws. And, to his credit, Darnold has clearly done some work to improve his anxiety. But he still folds when overwhelmed. As the pressure of the season has mounted, his cracks are starting to show up more. KOC needs to recognize and scheme around Darnold more. Offensive performances like today are team losses against anyone competent.
I remember his days in Carolina in 2022 when he went on that 4-2 run. He played well but the key was the RUNNING GAME was great. I think KOC needs to focus a bit more on that aspect and a bit less on the passing. Get Aaron Jones going, either through runs or passes out to the flat....but if he and Akers can get it going, that opens up the Playaction that Sam is pretty good at.
@@BillHicks420 He also has played well above expectations all year. I think its ok for him to have an ugly game as we still got the win. Not every game is going to be pretty and every QB has a bad game through out the year. I am just glad we got the W regardless
@ I agree. I have seen some building in the last few weeks in his ability to distribute the ball around, and in taking more check downs to keep the sticks moving. It does hurt watching Aaron jones flash low across the middle in the red zone with space but darnold is looking down field and forces the pick to JJ ( even though it shouldn’t have been a pick). I also see in the play calling they are designing some simpler quick hitter plays and more shallow routes to give him options. It’s subtle, but there is some improvement. Like I have said before, I think if we missed on JJ, darnold would be an interesting 2-3 year project as I know KOC could get a lot of his issues cleaned up. Knowing he’s only here for a year and the team is playing well, I am not sure how much cleaning up they’ll be able to do to some of his tendencies.

They are taking the ugly win and moving on. I agree that Darnold has been meh, but what the texans did last night is exactly what the Jags did. @Blobabee it's simply he does things that do not make sense. I'm no Jet fan but when you stuck watching jet games back in the day, he definitely made the drinking games more fun 🤣
Um, the NFL has years of bad darnold film. The reality is the Jags did to Darnold what the texans did to goff. Took away the number 1 receiver and tried to force him to throw to other receivers and check down. Vikings moved the ball well all day, but couldnt get it going in the redzone. I think that is something more to look at
KOC's mindset is that he's going to push Sam to places where he's never been before. In the past, Sam has let these kinds of performances get out of control and ruin his season, but I believe in KOC if nothing else, and I do still believe in Sam to be good enough to lead us to the playoffs. I think he'll bounce back next week.
He better be studying tape of all the open receivers he's missed and take a good long look in the mirror, and consider throwing it to those open receivers and stop focusing on Jefferson.
This is the part that's maddening : HE HIMSELF when he was first signed or first found out he was starting...he said that he would take what the Defense gave him. He has apparently forgotten about that.
Going beyond the INTs, half of his completions are with balls thrown at or behind a crossing receiver. Huge difference catching a ball in stride and having to either stop or turn around and stop your momentum to catch it.
There were no well thrown balls. In the grass, overhead or behind. I doubt they can get a wildcard because any decent team would have scored 30 with that many turnovers. It was a game of who would stb the least.
Listen to KOC's pressers, he says need to stay aggressive with big chunk plays. They are trying to win the game on every throw. It is good for him to believe in his players, but he is getting a little over confident. Let the big plays come don't force them.
Despite the naysayers... It's not entirely on SD. It's the same plays by KOC that other teams prepare for. Need to mix it up more and use some more 'exotic' plays. The offense seems to be two dementional vs 5/6-D.
That KOC says he never gave a thought to replacing Darnold, despite Darnold's miserable performance today, is a damning statement. And KOC's play calling is often bewildering, at best.
Respectfully disagree.... should the lions replace Goff tonight after an even worse 1st half performance? or texans replace stroud after he's been pretty terrible the last few games? Even if KOC was thinking it, he def wouldn't make that public. KOC is trying to inspire confidence and show the trust he and the team has in Darnold and thats the 1000% the right statement to make imo.
Mfs was acting like said let’s burn an orphanage when I critiqued Darnold. It’s the inconsistency for me. Where’s the IQ, where’s the leadership? Guy you were a top pick for a reason and you’re still here, show us why!
I think you're right. Having too much time to throw is a detriment to Darnold. Darnold hasn't been getting the ball out fast enough, allowing defenders additional time to read the play
Look even tho Darnold been throwing picks he’s has still been productive but today showed that we need to be able to execute in the red zone even if it’s not to 18 defenses are getting hip to that and we still don’t have a balanced attack the offense is becoming very predictable but the good reason is we are still winning games despite all these mistakes and that shows just how deep and resilient this team is if we get a running game goin and consistency in the red zone we’re fine I am getting a little scared that each week I don’t know what team is gonna show up it’s eerily similar to 22’ season worst 13-4 team of all time and if that happens again than it’s obvious it’s a coaching issue maybe KOC needs to spend sometime on the hot seat
Someone sat with darnold after game three and said throw to jj and get him touchdowns no matter what. Since game 3 all this guy does is force balls to jj.
And some of these commenters are clueless in not recognizing this. Sam didn't all of a sudden decide to throw exclusively to Jefferson after having a great 4 weeks of the season.....come on now...
I have a theory. Jamar Chase had an outstanding game on Thursday. Maybe Jefferson asked Darnold to target him a little more to match that performance. Or maybe it was even Sam’s idea. Either way I feel that could have been a factor for all those forced throws to JJ. JJ and Jamar are friends that definitely have a competitive relationship
I've been complaining about O'Connell's play calling for weeks. He's either calling very timid stuff, especially if the Vikings have even the slightest of a lead, or he's trying to force it to Jefferson. Addison and Nailor probably lose interest by the end of the first quarter.
He is not leading his targets. Even when the receivers get separation he is throwing behind them, giving the defense time to make a play on the ball. Between that and the fact that he stares down his targets, makes for a dangerous combo and leads to turnovers or PBU's.
Darnold doesn't lead his receivers reliably. This leads to fewer completions, fewer yards after the catch, more incompletions, more interceptions, more WR frustration.
Be careful being in too much of a rush to start JJ. I understand every first round QB brings hope, but the vast majority fail. One preseason game isn’t enough to crown someone. I hope he does end up being great, but seeing fans act like its automatic is ridiculous…..the same fans will call him a bum in 2 years if he’s not the savior you expect.
The problem we have is that Darnold is actually auditioning for other teams for next year. He knows this is JJ's team so he is making the most of it. Unfortunately, playing this way does not make him look good to other teams. KOC needs to reel him in.
1) The play calling needs to be considered into the criticism, & 2) was it me, or did it seem like Jefferson didn't put out the usual JJ effort on some of the TD passes? Like the low pass that was picked off. Thats something usually that JJ would be diving to catch. IDK, maybe i'm over analyzing it. 🤷♂
We'll see if Darnold can learn, so far he isn't. KOC still doing stupid playcalling sometimes. KOC didn't trust Darnold in last quarter, which is understandable.
In the red zone they need to run the ball better and throw on some zone schemes to the TE's. Change up the play calling in the red zone. Keep it simple for him.
Actually was thinking Mullins…and that thought sucks…we have not performed offensively since the first half of the GB game. Will take 7-2 but it’s feels like vapor ware.
why is KOC getting a pass here. I agree Darnold has been a liability, but KOC is the head coach. The offense all year has been underwhelming with the weapons at our disposal this year. KOC and Wes Phillips and Josh McCown might be more focused on fancy-designed plays than a productive offense. I think theyve over-complicated the scheme for Darnold and should get back to the basics on offense. The defense has mostly carried this team all year. Maybe B-Flo needs to head coach and knock some sense into the playcalling on offense and Darnolds decision making. Whereas I agree that KOC is an offense genius, the fact that he hasn't made necessary adjustments for Darnold's flaws are troubling. Does he know how to play to his QB's strengths/weaknesses? Maybe. Look at Dobbs last year. Tried to make Dobbs into a 5-step drop back pocket passer, and that was never his strengths, ever.
The play calling has been horrible. KOC needs to pull it together. 3rd and 1 in field goal range and you set up a play action pass... horrible. Little details man. Sam needs to go through his progressions and read the field better. I do believe Darnold is great QB and I believe in him, KOC, and the vikings future. Every qb has a bad game. It happens. Chin up chest out and keep moving! 7-2
Atleast the vikes already matched last seasons win total , the defense is tough again and they hopefully found out they can run the ball again , hocks back, and 5int n 2 yet 2wins . Just like u said , if they would've lost both those games ,put a fork in it, KOC is right there hiccups and to much talent around him , and he's was hired as temporary employee, and seen previously displayed great success, and i don't he's a person who will just give up on him self and accepting his red zone mishaps and isnt gonna put L on his forehead
Hope not but the last 2 games I noticed under throwing and almost NO POWER behind his throws anymore (int in red zone) So IM CALLING ARM SHOULDER OR HAND INJURY 😢 AND HE DOESNT WANA LOSE THIS OR FUTURE JOB'S 😅
Yeah, it appears that Darnold is turning into a pumpkin before our eyes. This game was brutal! Let's hope he's just in a slump while we're playing terrible teams. But once December comes around, he needs to become the Darnold of September again.
The Sam Darnold Project might be coming to an end, gentlemen. 2 interceptions in the endzone is not sustainable against decent teams. Vikes should've blown out the Jags by at least 3 TDs
Darnold doesn’t seem to be going through the progressions as he was early in the season. With the loss of Darrisaw, injuries to Jones and return of Hawkinson, it seems that he is very uncomfortable with the new offense. O’Connell needs to take a step back and structure around the limitations of his QB. Darnold is not Goff or Stafford and O’Connell, and for that matter Jefferson, need to keep that in mind if this team is going to succeed. Go Vikes!
Only thing Darnold is really doing decent now as our QB….? Scrambling… about it. Lots of overthrows, not throwing to the guys wide open, forcing too many throws.

In the past, Sam has let these kinds of performances get out of control and ruin his season, but I believe in KOC if nothing else, and I do still believe in Sam to be good enough to lead us to the playoffs. I think he'll bounce back next week.
He better be studying tape of all the open receivers he's missed and take a good long look in the mirror, and consider throwing it to those open receivers and stop focusing on Jefferson.
he needs to start throwing to the OPEN short recievers NOT into double +++ coverages all the time. STOP looking for the big hero play
Darnold plays QB like how I play Madden. 3rd and 1, eff it I’m going DEEP!
Have the same energy for Goff
Darnold needs to take what the defense gives him and stop trying to force everything. The big plays will come naturally with the flow of the offense
This is the part that's maddening : HE HIMSELF when he was first signed or first found out he was starting...he said that he would take what the Defense gave him.
He has apparently forgotten about that.
I'm in a General Managers League. I signed Darnold as a FA when he joined the 49ers. I just traded him last week for a 2026 1st. 😂
@@summershark IDK lions had 5 and the texans did drop 30
@ Goff had a bad day but his ball placement is worlds better than Sam.
KOC needs to let OC handle play calling
Listen to KOC's pressers, he says need to stay aggressive with big chunk plays. They are trying to win the game on every throw. It is good for him to believe in his players, but he is getting a little over confident. Let the big plays come don't force them.
Sam constantly tried to force the ball to Jefferson, it's a HUGE problem
He is who we thought he was
He just needs the Bud jersey. They lit up Houston in the throwbacks. Their most dominant win all season
Making no excuses, but Jared Goff is the great pumpkin of the week with five interceptions
The problem here is O'Connell's......he has to give up play calling..... he's terrible at it now......
Despite the naysayers... It's not entirely on SD. It's the same plays by KOC that other teams prepare for. Need to mix it up more and use some more 'exotic' plays. The offense seems to be two dementional vs 5/6-D.
Are you on glue? Sam Darnold was a joke today. Regardless of play calls his accuracy and decisions were D-
@@summersharktheir are a lot of weird people who treat this guy like he’s in their family or something
Awful take. What coach would say we should replace are starter will Nick Mullens? Would ruin chemistry
They're 7-2. You don't switch QB's now, definitely without a viable back up
Goff has thrown 5 interceptions so far😂 sheesh.
@ lmao just thought this
Mfs was acting like said let’s burn an orphanage when I critiqued Darnold. It’s the inconsistency for me. Where’s the IQ, where’s the leadership? Guy you were a top pick for a reason and you’re still here, show us why!
He's forcing some of his throws specially forced feeding Jefferson.
His timing is way off. Late on his throws
He forces things instead of using the check down.
Sam Darnold always starts a season playing well, but then he fizzles
Brain dead statement
I wish coaches adjusted their red zone strategy, quick short routes would've been what i would've adjusted to.
I've been complaining about O'Connell's play calling for weeks. He's either calling very timid stuff, especially if the Vikings have even the slightest of a lead, or he's trying to force it to Jefferson. Addison and Nailor probably lose interest by the end of the first quarter.
let go Darnold you got the weapons!
It will be interesting to see how he plays next week
Only thing we can do is cross our fingers every time he drops back too throw 😅😅😅
I think Jets told Darnold he was tryna best Chase' 11 catch 264 yard game from Thursday night. So he was forcing the ball to him lol
He is not leading his targets. Even when the receivers get separation he is throwing behind them, giving the defense time to make a play on the ball. Between that and the fact that he stares down his targets, makes for a dangerous combo and leads to turnovers or PBU's.
Only way u get better is by failing and he failed and we still won better go practice all week now
Thx Andy, undisclosed location in LA on vacation and like a MN perceptive at the happiest place on earth
They remind me of the 1970's Vikings. We don't need no stinkin' touchdowns!
Uh, yes you do. Unless Lions and Packers start to play like jags suddenly.
Teams figured out darnold can't read a defense for shit. That's what's happening.
Lions just got handed the win by the refs. Insane how they just miss a clear pass interference.
Darnold is a backup we need game plans to mitigate his poor play,
“WHAT’RE YA DOING?!” - Robbie Rotten.
Who cares? Last I checked, Cousins lost against the Saints today
Threw a Checkdown on 4th down. What a winner.
Darnold doesn't lead his receivers reliably. This leads to fewer completions, fewer yards after the catch, more incompletions, more interceptions, more WR frustration.
"Remember Who You Are" isn't for everybody
So many presnap penalties again...
I'm glad we can get this out of the way before we sign him again for next year.
DCs now have tape on Darnold and know how to defend him. Onus is on coaching staff to fix what Defences are keying on.
Sam Darnold has literally thrown so many pics in the red zone... He chokes under pressure just like when Sam played for the Jets...
We'll see if Darnold can learn, so far he isn't. KOC still doing stupid playcalling sometimes. KOC didn't trust Darnold in last quarter, which is understandable.
Hey
As a Viking fans, you’ll have to realize Darnold has the most pressure on him to not mess up and feed the ball to JJ. Like , he really is trying.
I hope shit turns around I think he’s letting the good vibes get to him and not staying in his grind
Take the easy throws, trust in our running attack more especially on 2nd or 3rd and short
There is tape on the “NEW” Sam and defenses are learning how attack him but at the same time, he is acting a little bit more like “OLD” Sam
why is KOC getting a pass here.
They just had 400 yards of offense
The play calling has been horrible. KOC needs to pull it together. 3rd and 1 in field goal range and you set up a play action pass... horrible. Little details man. Sam needs to go through his progressions and read the field better. I do believe Darnold is great QB and I believe in him, KOC, and the vikings future. Every qb has a bad game. It happens. Chin up chest out and keep moving! 7-2
I noticed in week 4 that Darnold wasn't it. He was holding the ball to damn long.
Jefferson not in the mood for an interview today.
Defenses have figured Darnold out.
He’s literally doing well Jefferson is there imma just throw it
We ain't benching Sam. He will be fine..
Hope not but the last 2 games I noticed under throwing and almost NO POWER behind his throws anymore (int in red zone)
So IM CALLING ARM SHOULDER OR HAND INJURY 😢 AND HE DOESNT WANA LOSE THIS OR FUTURE JOB'S 😅
Go Vikes!
True. KOC always fancy ass. How about some quick passes for first downs. Sam looks so goofy on these long developing plays.
Only thing Darnold is really doing decent now as our QB….? Scrambling… about it. Lots of overthrows, not throwing to the guys wide open, forcing too many throws.
