I was kinda upset when Taemin called Kai’s “dark” skin a “weakness.” I was ready to leave, and a kind Shawol guided me here. It’s not an apology, and Taemin didn’t write the lyrics, but they had to agree to sing this, right? There’s a certain acceptance of what is considered somewhat taboo and almost too progressive in S Korea in this song, although I wonder if they’re talking about skin as dark as mine if Taemin thinks Kai is dark. Whatever. This is my ultimate group, Taemin is one of my ultimate biases, and I’m still black as hell. Dark brown skin, indeed. It’s all good.
I don't think he meant it in a bad way, tbh whitewashing is really common there ,they have these super stupid beauty standards that especially idols and stars feel pressurized to fit in so dark skin is a kind of weakness for their image....even exo used to tease kai for his skin colour but they all stopped totally when kai said he didn't like it. Nonetheless I hope taemin ended up realising that a lot of people infact don't believe in colourism (btw jjong who wrote these lyrics on being asked his ideal type said that he prefers white women but not in some racist way,it was more like some like vanilla ice cream while others chocolate, but they don't hate either,not defending him since I'm dark skinned myself ,these boys are absolutely sweet so if you find some other fishy thing bout them then do a lil background check cause very often things are taken out of context)
