- Nicola Sturgeon has announced she will stand down after eight years as First Minister, telling a press conference “the time is now”.
In a shock announcement on Wednesday, the SNP leader said she was not reacting to “short-term pressures” after a series of political setbacks.
Former Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond speaks to TalkTV’s Mike Graham following the resignation of his successor.
“She’s left the SNP without a strategy as well as without a leader” he said.
Former Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond also tells Mike that Nicola Sturgeon has missed a 'big opportunity' to make the case for Scottish independence: "Britain is being run like a failed state at the present moment."

She resigned, "out of the blue" i would bet that the investigations into missing money and other shenanigans behind the scenes have more to do with the resignation than the transgender thing.
Of course though, they (the establishment and press) want to keep your focus away from the corruption and back room deals and want you thinking its because of her position on CC and trans rights.

The problem we have with the Scottish Parliament is we have no second body to hold them to account. We have had a glimpse into an independent Scotland with an increasing authoritarian leader imo, it is not what I would vote for

For me the need for Scottish independence has diminished somewhat as the need for England to be independent of Nicola Sturgeon has been achieved. In terms of divorce it's as if the mother-in-law has emigrated or died and perhaps now pleasant relations can be re-established.
Let's hope so. Most of Scotland was happy to see her resign as well.

It's the right time for her to step down. The numbers are not there to secure an indyref win, but the independence now brigade would keep whipping her to go for it anyway, leading to a public brawl. Better to step aside and let them get on with it, rather than preside over it. She was very much the right person at the right time and smart enough to recognize that is not the case at this time. She'll be back when the SNP are done with their indyref bloodbath and tanking at the polls.

Just watched this piece with Alex Salmond. Im not an SNP or Green supporter or independence. Theyve badly damaged Scotland under Sturgeon. But Salmond had the opportunity to massively critique Sturgeon he didn't, he talked about real issues shch as infrastructure, energy, education and health. He took the questions with good humour and talked positively about the need to focus on the Scottish people and the future. Why cant Scotland have a leader like this. Well humoured, communicative, focused and understanding. Hmmmm.

@@sandrameldrum4922 Couldn't agree more. But you can separate his communications and leadership skills from his personal habits however distasteful perhaps up to a point. Innocent until proven guilty and given Sturgeon must have been aware of some if not all allegations she did nothing to intervene. She couldn't apparently even remember the meeting she did have with one complainant about his alleged behaviour. Didn't even take notes if you believe that. On a closing note Sturgeon was under investigation by The Law Society For Scotland prior to her political career for failing women in four abuse/ domestic violence cases. Says it all about her too.....
