My favorite Hogarth-led Marillion album. I remember buying it in a hole-in-the-wall local shop as soon as it came out. As a concept album, it definitely needs to be heard as a whole, but this was a good sampler to get your interest piqued. Glad you enjoyed it!
Growing up, I was a massive fan of Fish-era Marillion, and was almost insulted when Hogarth turned up with pre-written songs & lyrics, as I felt it betrayed the 'spirit' of the band; the Jester, if you will. So, after a few songs here and there, I abandoned them but still listened to the old stuff religiously. Years later, a girl I was seeing, joyously announced she'd bought me Marillion tickets for my birthday... Inside, I was equally flattered and gutted, but I popped on the old interwebs and spotted an interview with Hogarth discussing the Brave album and the mental toll it took on him from playing it live. I gave it a listen, and boom; the Jester was there. Loved it. Loved them live, too. Their newer stuff? I've heard the odd song or two, but it just hasn't jelled with me; like the Jester's gone again... Maybe I've just heard the wrong songs.
Thank you Dean! This album was my intro to Marillion! 1994 I was 18 so this was way outta my comfort zone lol but I was blown away listening to the whole album. Love concept albums 🖤🖖🏽🖖🏽🖖🏽
This is the real Marillion and it gets better from there. I like to forget about that terrible “Genesis” 80’s Version of Marillion with that really bad singer. This album just blows me away and should never be listened to in a single track format. It’s an album that has to be listened to from start to finish.

Brave is the album where they really clicked with Hogarth and stopped trying to write singles, and it's simply amazing
Magnificent song and marvelous album! My favorite from Marillion. A black jewel. Listen to loud with lights off.
Hi Dean. 2 amazing versions of a really strange track that warrants much more attention. All the best. Dave✅✅
Marillion is amazing band!
This album is a mastpiece.

Thanks for sharing, I love these insights.
My first Marillion concert was on the Brave tour , hearing this album live in the Glasgow Barrowlands venue was special.
Very nice. Hope to visit your country some day

The last Marillion album that meant something. Brave is an masterpiece! (Marbles was pretty good as well, but not in this way)
