I’ve never seen or heard these March-Buick cars in action, and never thought a GM pushrod V6 would ever make such a wonderful noise. It almost sounds more like a built Nissan RB inline six in this car.
Both this and the Lola Chevrolet Corvette GTP cars where wy before they're times... to much torque that broke half shafts, CV joints and hubs... I didn't know until recent that the Buick Hawk, BMW and Nissan GTP cars all used the same March chassis.
What an exciting car.. But how did they get it to last a full endurance race when it could hardly ever finish an Indy 500? Oh wait, I know.. They planned to hire Al Unser, Sr. to drive all of the stints.
@@christianmarche993 I actually spoke with Eddie Cheever on twitter about it and he only lives a few miles from me BTW. He actually ran over 250mph in the Quaker State Buick during off season testing at IMS. He told me of all the crazy things he got to drive over his career, 80’s turbo F1 included, nothing was crazier than that Buick. They weren’t junky gimmicks, they just had to make some design adjustments that unfortunately took them to the end of its production life to get sorted. Regardless they were still the most brutal thing in the field.
Enrico Araújo I couldn’t see very well but it looks like the one on the dash is labeled “boost” and the one just to the right of it “ignition.” Looks and sounds like he turned the boost down, and later turned it back up. The turbo sounds to me like it’s not spooling as high after he does it.
No. Most of the time the gear position is done by ratio calculation. In reality he doesnt need to know the gear position, so they may have done a ratio change and not updated the ADL to re-calculate it properly, hence displaying different gears or delay in changing gears
That turbo whistle is just awesome!

this engine in this car was based off the indy car Buick v6 of the era as well.
@@mikehunt9894 Yes and proved to be as unreliable too.
@@shaadydog1 yep. They ate head gaskets. The indycar variants were abit better
That might be in part from running on methanol in Indy, much bigger/safer tuning window, and cooler running than race gas.
So the different fuel weakened the reliability in the racing?

The buzzing half dozen! Awesome video!
GM Should've entered an LMP this year with Buick badging and Royal Crown livery
Love these onboards ❤️❤️❤️
Car is dialed in compared with the way it ran 1985 86...lol
The flutter is amazing!!!! I can’t stop listening to that! How much horsepower did these make?
Every GTP entry was in the high 800 range in 85’ and 86’.

Indy has much longer full throttle time than this would have but it was still unreliable in this series...
Sadly it was a junky gimmick.

Amazing! Curious to know what is he doing when pressing those buttons, one at the steering wheel and one at the console on the left. Anyone?

Enrico Araújo No idea what the one on the wheel does, might be the “push-to-talk” radio button.
tristancauvin I was thinking the same!
tristancauvin Well thinking! Good spot.
Love it!
Who is ken dobson?
Am I the only one who noticed his dash acting screwy?
