Those were the days when things were done with perfection, generosity and subtleties, putting much more heart than money in pockets. Amazing watercolor backgrounds, animation, script and especially music...
The snake charmer's music is really great. Would someone, please, tell me how or where to find it. I heard it more than 50 years before, and I am always fond of it.
In the Mighty Mouse Terrytoon cartoons cats were always portrayed as the bad guys. But Sourpuss the Cat was a regular Terrytoons character and a cat as well and he was a good guy.
Great toon. Love the beautifully painted ancient Egyptian setting. That cat dancer really had some moves. The sphinx looks like a cross between Elmer Fudd and Alfred E Neuman (before he was called that by Mad).
Wow,so I just watched a Heckle & Jekyll episode called King Tut's tomb(It said that episode came out in 1950,& this one 1948? in the description),& it looks like they maybe re-used parts of this film in it.
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!! :-) I LOVE IT!!! I WATCHED THESE CARTOONS WHEN I WAS A KID, AND LOOKED FOR THEM FOR A LONG TIME. NOW, THESE WERE CARTOONS, NOT THE CRAP THEY MAKE NOW. THANK YOUUUUUUUUU! :-D
That is some real good animation of the female cat dancing and some real good dancing!!!!! I wonder if it was patterned after a person who did this dance? The movements looks so good!!! Great danicing!! The music is great too. I wonder who the musicians are? Should have been a big swing hit in the 1940's. Does anyone know any information about the song or the dancing?
Thank you very much for uploading this video. I have looked for it for a long time. Love it! Outstanding cartoon quality. The "Song of Egypt" is beatiful. Can the song be found as a standalone?
+brian sedlock This cartoon was from 1943, when the War in North Africa was still going on. Gandy Goose and Sourpuss often appeared in uniform in these cartoons, with Sourpuss as the Sergeant.
This "Gandy Goose" cartoon was shown before the 20th Century Fox live-action film in black-and-white, "Wintertime" (1943), at a theater near you. Coincidentally, the aforementioned live-action film was supposed to be photographed in Technicolor.
Ha ha, so one of the rare times Sourpuss actually LIKES something Gandy does in bed.😏 Also, I love Sourpuss’ line delivery of “Play it again”. It makes me laugh for some reason. Great cartoon, from a supposedly derivative cartoon studio. XD
Looks like a zurna shrill pipe. They have a very reedy sinuous sound. I think there are similar pipes like the bombard in the West, but the Zurna is native to the Middle East (I think), especially around Turkey.

Well, have you heard about recycled animation?
4:27 isn't that scene used at another cartoon? Does anybody know the name of it?

0:29-0:37 a reference to the great Desert Fox, General Erwin Rommel, the leader of the Afrika Korps.

I was looking for a lot and did not find it and found good
Much of the animation in this will get reused, at least one scene a couple of times.
Please, in which other cartoons?
What musical instrument was Gandy playing?

A descendant of Van Beuren's Waffles & :9n / Tom & Jerry cartoons, down to the skeleton fireman.
