i saw another game like this area, about same length but same concept. 1 level, multiple routes that open up after completion. i dont remember what it was called, but it was on a GMTK game jam. its one of the tops that the narrator picked. ithink the theme was "just one"

@@theofficialwoohoogamersh just 2 separate objects that sounds less complicated, and the way you think it works is less efficient because it adds another rule that only exists BECAUSE of how it was done, the most normal way to do it would be to have 2 separate objects and use the same sprite for both, because, when an object transforms into another object, it's permanement unless a rule is triggered that turns it back.
character gimmicks: Baba: None. Keke: Wind either blows up or down, as shown by the arrow in the bottom right. This forces Keke to move that direction every turn. Me: Idle to switch between outside the gray and inside the gray. Fish: Dies on land. Badbad: Dies instantly after moving more than six steps. Spikes reset this counter. Eye: Dies when adjacent to a spike while looking towards it. Does not die when touching the spikes. Crab: Press space to expend one charge and switch between moving horizontally and moving vertically. You start with two charges, but touching a reed gives you up to six. Robot: The robot can only move if there is a reed in its row or column. Bird: You move until you hit a solid object.
the art is made with objects that are oversized compared to their regular sprite size. so 'custom sprites' is enough to make it. otherwise I'm pretty sure such art is practically impossible to make, unless you want the painful experience of trying to overlap existing objects to imitate the specific geometry of the art you wanna make
