tyler: *breathes* the clique: “he was inhaling positivity and exhaling all of the negative thoughts that fill his troubled mind. he is so strong, we should all strive to be like him.”
That’s not just tøp tho. If social media was around in the 90s or earlier they would have done the same for Kurt Cobain or Thom Yorke or even Ian Curtis. Fans make the music personal so they want to make the PEOPLE who make the music personal as well by over-analysing, looking for any tiny detail that shows more of the people they idolise. What they fail to realise is that no one is gonna open up completely in front of an audience (only exception is Dan Harmon but he is.... special 😂)
@Panic!! at the tøp they are as defensive as kpop fans. i'm fan of both top and some kpop groups and i can assure you that they are the same. obviously some kpop fandoms are wayyyy more toxic than clique, but majority of them are like this fandom. there is a difference between being defensive and litteraly crying for nothing tyuvij i saw so many times clique litteraly bullying people on internet for opinions like ????
My friends all through high school were just all about them, it's all I'd hear about. I like their music, it's just a shame that whenever I hear their name I just groan
Aw god, the k pop fanbase can be the most annoying thing in the world :D You see, I'm not a big k pop fan, but I listen to some sometimes, mostly 2NE1 and sometimes PSY. But when I read some comments on a 2ne1 video on youtube, people are arguing about which of the girls is the best, and say, that the others are shit. I don't know if it's just me, but I think you should at least respect all the members of your favorite bands :D
I always feel like HATING a band for being overplayed is a very stupid reason. Of course, you can grow tired of listening to something. Twenty One Pilots is my favorite band, and I even feel like I've grown tired of their music before because I have listened to them so much. I just don't understand why anyone would shit on a band because their songs are being played every half hour on the radio or something. If you don't want to listen to it, then switch to another channel or turn the radio off for a couple of minutes...
DanneBOI I agree to a certain extent. Some songs from bands that I like fall victim to being overplayed and it ruins the song eventually. But when you are basically forced to listen to the same pop BS all day because your work plays it, I hate the crap out of it to the point where i want the "artist" (if thats what you call them) to never make music ever again
I agree, but when I went to see them during Tour De Columbus, everyone was calm there where 0 problems, so I feel like it's certain people maybe the ones that push to the front, but idk.
DanneBOI Agreed I used to listen to TØP 14 hours a day and got a little tired of it for a while but I always respected them and am getting back into them lol
Twenty One Pilots writes some of the best lyrics I've seen. I seriously respect them and am proud they're my favorite band. The fanbase is usually very respectful and helpful and all around great. IT'S THE CANCEROUS ones, the cringey ones, that people see more often and that kinda sucks. The terrible fans are just a really loud minority.
@نائلة محمود sorry for being late but the only fake fans are those who pretend to listen to the band for popularity, not because they actually like the music. And actually the toxic ones I would call fake fans too. Real fans don't act like that. Anyway, that's just my opinion. Have a great day 😊
Twenty One Pilots are legit talent , that actually have 1) Vocalist with no fcking *autotune* 2) Plays instruments *live* 3) Not created by a garbage giant music conglomerate, cause daddy & mommy were signed talent years ago. The biggest garbage is *autotune* rap music , if you can call it music.
@@aarons0z992 i know this was 3 months ago but I think that he mentioned it was him experimenting with editing, and that's pretty likely seeing what his voice can do haha
The clique is the reason why I don’t tell people I like top because I’m afraid of being associated with the fanbase And the religious part: as an atheist it really doesn’t bother me at all
les that's how I was untill I realized that it didn't matter. There are good sides of the clique that I'm in right now and I'm not going to be afraid to say they're my favorite band just because some people are gonna assume things about me
My best friend's mom is an atheist and she lets her kid listen to twenty one pilots and she's pretty careful about that stuff. I don't see why religion bothers people so much. I'm a christian but I'm friends with a few really nice muslims. I don't really agree with it, but there is no need to get triggered over it like some people do
Dryd3n 21235 So people can't showcase their love for their fav band anymore? This is the kind of thing that gets me triggered... like people can be fans without being cringy! Jeez....
i hate when people stereotype them as emo just because of their image when a lot of their songs are really upbeat and they really emo like u can enjoy them without having to be emo
im so fucking sick of people saying they don’t like tøp because of the fanbase literally every mainstream fanbase is toxic in some way or other and it’s been said so many times. if you hate the music or the band because of the fanbase then it seems like you liked them for all the wrong reasons in the first place tbh.
WhyAreYouTakingSoLongSanFranscisco this!!!. I went through a phase when I was really embarrassed that I liked them bc I didn’t want to be seen as just another edgy try hard but it really shouldn’t fucking matter! It should be about the music and not about what other people think of them
Harshal Desai i don’t think you’ve been in other fan bases then because the same shit has happened in every fanbase ive been in so far it just seems like tøp is more like that because of how often people complain about it or how vocal the people like that in the tøp fanbase are. that happens in almost every fanbase that is mainstream
Well, yeah. But, the toxic people in a fandom are usually the ones that get noticed first. While the chill fans don't get as much attention because they're 'chill'.
I'm an atheists and a big fan (not a toxic fan) of twenty one pilots and I don't really care about the fact that they mention god at all I believe we all have a right to be and believe what we want
Save yourself 10 minutes. #1 Tyler's Vocals #2 lyrics you have to pay attention to in order to understand. (sorry, this one pisses me off.) #3 the fan base (understandable). #4 religious associations. #5 overplayed and overrated (not overrated, overexposed) (not wrong) #6 "emo" aesthetic.
Sarah, I may not have a correct or fully developed understanding of what 'emo' is, however, I can assure you I did not say the band was emo. I asked how they were emo (pending what was said in the video and the original comment) and I also stated later in my comment that calling the band emo was a bit far. Furthermore, expressing my opinion that the band was not in fact emo. I'm very sorry if you misunderstood that, though I'm not sure I could've made myself more clear on my stances and views pending how my reply was stated. To address your concerns on the self harm part, the band may not have clearly said they self harm(ed), however, if you listen to their musical content and really read and comprehend the lyrics, they make references to have possibly self harmed in the past. in Tyler's one and only solo album (No Phun Intended) he has a song called 'Hole In The Ground'. In this song, Tyler clearly says, "My own two hands will start bleeding again and the floor will turn to a hole in the ground". He says that repeatedly throughout the song, very clearly stating (in my opinion) that he'll slit his wrists again and actually die the next time. He also has another work of art called, 'I Need Something To Kill Me' where he clearly states, "I need something to kill me because I'm tired of doing it myself". In both these works of art, Tyler talks about harming himself, so no. You can't just assume someone has self harmed, this band has hints in their music to make you believe they have leading the self harming theory to be a logical theory or assumption. I would like to state, I did not come up with that assumption out of the blue. As you can see in this reply, I have reasons to believe they have, that are based directly off their artwork. I do not believe Tyler would incorporate those sentences or details into his lyrics if he had never self harmed. Especially because in both those works of art he talks about having self harmed, so while yes, he may not have just stated it, he hints or states it in his art. Again, I apologize for any misunderstanding.
Megan Proffitt i know the band isn't emo. i was saying that self harm isn't emo. classifying it like that is extremely trivializing to people, like myself, who have and do struggle with it. i understand that tyler has addressed self harm extensively, but until he comes out and says that he has partaken in it, it isn't right to assume. you can speculate all you'd like, but it isn't fact. tyler has, however, stated that he's dealt with suicidal ideation and depression which could also apply to the lyrics you provided.
Sarah, I'm sorry you struggle with emo, however, I did not classify it that way, but thanks for your clarification. Now onto self harming yes, Tyler has addressed it extensively, however, again, I personally don't believe Tyler would incorporate it into his lyrics, had he not done it. Self harm isn't something you just say you've done (whether in an interview, post, or in your music) if you haven't done it. Did you read my second example? I'm only asking because in the first example, I can see it maybe coming from his depression or his suicidal thoughts, however, in my second example, Tyler clearly says that he's tired of trying to kill himself. To me, that puts up every red flag. It's way more obvious than, 'Hole In The Ground'. In 'Hold In The Ground' it can be debatable, which I get. That could just be his depression coming out, but in 'I Need Something To Kill Me' I don't think it gets anymore clear than that.
Reason #1: I love Ty's voice, I think it's unique af, but people have opinions so- Reason #2: It's called metaphors, and metaphors are called art. Since I love metaphors and hidden meanings, Tyler's lyrics really speak to me. Reason #3: Sometimes I really don't like being in the clique. I used to be a huge obsessed fan, but I never accused people of being 'fake fans' or said that Tyler and Josh were 'Gods', and I never hated on someone for saying '21 pilots'. Also fanart: WHY PEOPLE? REALLY? Also people take Joshler *way* too far. Like, okay, you can ship it, but there's a line. But sometimes the clique is a good place to be, too. If I ever need support I know I can go to the clique and they will be there for me. Reason #4: I'm not 'christian', but I believe in God. I don't like to put myself into a box, but yeah, I go to church and I pray. But even though they mention God in some of their songs, it's not deliberate. Like he said, it's open for interpretation. Reason #5: Yes, their popular songs are overplayed. But so are every other artists' popular music. As for overrated, they worked hard for their popularity, so if you think they're overrated, take a moment to realize that every other artist probably has it worse. Reason #6: Their aesthetic has it's deeper meaning. Personally, I don't look at them as emo at all. They have different aesthetic for every album, and you have to admit, Trench's aesthetic is not emo at all.
@@fedoralostatsea4734 yeah i agree lmao. I draw fanart too, but I was just referring to the sexual shit that people draw. and ye, same with fanfiction. no judgement though.
I will say, I find it rather annoying when fans say that their lyrics aren't for everyone and you have to really pay attention to understand, because I disagree, their music and the story behind it is NOT difficult to catch onto. I'd say anyone over the age of 12 can understand the meaning behind their songs. They're not that special.
@@KB-yf3wt I think those clique members simply can't fathom that someone else knows more than them. really makes me ashamed to be a part of the clique sometimes.
Your number 3 reason is basically why I kinda stopped looking at the comments of the videos I uploaded. I love TOP. It's really why I made my channel. My name can make it obvious but I've been meaning to change it to something original because now I cringe at the name myself. But man the intense fans can be something else. That doesn't mean there aren't any genuine fans, but they just seem to stick out more.
I love frank more than I love myself you don't have to identify with the fanbase or even like the fanbase to be a "true fan". That mindset is not a good one to have.
I have been listening to twenty one pilots for 3 years now and I am not part of the clique and am not OVERPROTECTIVE of them but I do protect them a little from people who completely trash them because there music helped me, and is helping me, through a lot of stress, anxiety, and depression.
EXACTLY!!!!! There is NOTHING wrong with protecting a band! I will admit, at times the fanbase is a bit extreme, but sometimes it is less of protecting the band and more of protecting your pride and being able to say you like a band without unnecessary discrimination
Red Lighting yeah it kinda makes me mad when I tell people I like twenty one pilots and they’re like “lol they’re emo trash you have no taste” like...? It’s happened more often than you’d expect, and it pisses me off, top mean so much to me. Critique is fine, but rarely has anything I’ve gotten been constructive.
It also should be noted that TOP isnt an emo band at all. The aesthetic etc is associated with the social group, but when it comes to their music, they arent even remotely close to the emo genre.
I have listend to that album countless times. It is tied for my fav album of all time. I never said they were putting on a show, just pointing out that in terms of genre, they are not emo.
Its Not A Bad Dick emo does not mean depression and anxiety. Yes it is short for emotional but any genre can be emotional. Emo is really short for emotive hardcore, which consists of distorted guitar, screaming vocals and sometimes mathy time signatures.
They write songs about emotional stuff. Defiention: a style of rock music resembling punk but having more complex arrangements and lyrics that deal with more *emotional* subjects.
I found TØP around late 2013, and have seen them live three times. And honestly, the clique seemed pretty nice back when I found them, I guess the positive "stay alive" part of the clique were the majority at the time. However through the years and with their increase in popularity I have seen the toxic part come into the majority, being extremely hateful and telling others to kill themselves (which is the exact opposite of the entire band and their message). I hated seeing all of this stuff, I used to really embrace being part of the skeleton clique, but now I mostly separate myself from that, just simply saying I'm a fan of the band. The part of religion personally doesn't bother me, they believe in what they believe in and I'm not going to shame them for it. I can still enjoy songs like Be Concerned (a song about Tyler questioning his faith) and A Car, A Torch, A Death (which straight up talks about God) because I believe they are good songs, they sound good and I know that Tyler pours his heart out into each song and I'm not going to hate for someone expressing themselves, that's what music is about, expression. That also leads into the whole "fake emo" thing, they're both obviously alternative and listen to stuff that is considered emo (like MCR, they even did a cover for Rocksound of the song Cancer). They are expressing themselves through their image and presence, and there is nothing wrong with that. I'm sure there's hate on the whole black hands and neck thing Tyler does, and that ties into the whole "fake look" thing, but that's just another form of expression and symbolism. Blurryface is the name given to Tyler's anxiety, fears, bad stuff in general and if I remember correctly, he believes that the hands and neck are the most vulnerable places and the black represents Blurryface and how it affects him. There are many valid points to dislike them, such as it being not your style or disliking his voice, but a lot of them are a bit ridiculous in my opinion. This comment went much longer than expected whoops but there's a bit of rant
I started being a good fan of them in November 2017. I never really cared about the fanbases of my favorite bands because everyone has their own opinion on them as long as they don't deminuitize others for having a different one. I have heard most of their songs already and although Vessel is my least favorite album, it's still good in some aspects and I'll willingly listen to it.
I understand why people say the clique is toxic, but that’s not really true. Some fans may be really crazy and mean, but I wouldn’t call them fans or a part of the clique. The real clique is so much more than what people see at first
Kate Boylan ok all these comments are killing me. A large MAJORITY of the fandom is toxic now and if you get offended by someone saying that then you’re part of the problem
The fanbase kinda callmed down during the hiatus but it's still pretty fricking bad and the "iTs TwEnTY| ∅nE| pIl∅TS nOt 21 PilOTs!!!!!!!" kids are not going anywhere.
Honestly I will forever have a problem with ‘21 pilots’ it pisses me off when people do that but I think most of the time the øs and |s are unnecessary
Big agreement Yeah, their music saved my life, but I wont treat them like gods for it and hand feed them grapes while I fan them with a palm leaf. I respect them like humans. They are better than most, though, haha
@Panic!! at the tøp Perfect is defined as having no flaws. Tyler and Josh have flaws. I have flaws. You have flaws. I'm just done with human beings being treated like Gods when what they are are entertainers. 21 Pilots seem chill. I'm just tired of unnecessary worship.
The only thing to hate about twenty one pilots is the fucking "fanbase". I put that in quotations because it's more like a giant swarm of hyenas screeching as loud as they can.
Blood'N'Bacon - Peter Johannes EXACTLY my situation! Tøp is tied for my favorite band (rivaled by Linkin Park) and the fanbase just makes it so hard to tell people!
Omg same. I agree so much. I'm a top fan (obviously) and the toxic side of the fandom is literal garbage. Thank God I haven't really interacted with one yet, I've just seen them ._.
1. Tyler's voice is amazing. He was probably born with autotune in his vocal cords. Lol. 2. Do people know what metaphors are? Did they pay attention in English class? 3. I never really seen many toxic people in the clique. But the whole Joshler thing is kinda weird. 4. Why the hell would you hate them for their religion? They're people, they got religions. Don't hate on them for their beliefs. 5. How is it overrated or overplayed? I barely ever heard their popular songs played on the radio to be honest. There's also only three songs to mention out of five albums. I think it's good that they get attention. 6. So they don't like how Tyler wants his fans to stay alive? He also suffers with depression and he can write his emotion. Also, the stuff they wear make them unique. What other band wears ski masks, eyeshadow, paints their neck and hands black, and has a microphone hanging from the ceiling? What's that? You don't know? Exactly.
As a part of the clique, I agree with most of the points you made. It's a shame the toxic people are the most known. I've talked to some really sweet people in the clique. But I mean, there will always be toxic people, fanbase or not.
Some toxic fans are quite annoying although I’ve never met one I know there’s a lot of them, and there’s also a lot of them too I agree,,I also love ur profile pic 🙂
I don't think "emo" is a proper term for music genre, just because.. It's all about the lyrics. They are emotional people, they are sensitive as lot of us are, and they write about it. For me the word "emo" brings back the picture of 2006 emo kid with emo bangs, piercing and stuff, and this is not the case here.
not a 21p fan but i dont think any fanbase can exist without cringey fans, like literally every single mainstream rock band/other fandom i'm in i've come across fan behaviors that make me want to jump off a cliff
That’s true, with the 1% theory, it states that 1% of fandoms are generally horrible. And with smaller fandoms, that 1% is easier to manage than larger ones since that 1% is smaller with a smaller number, buuut top seems to have way more cringy fans than other larger fanbases. I feel like different large fanbases have different types of cringe, but top is just horrible
I remember talking to a boy (that I really liked) about music. He asked what my favorite band was, so I said twenty one pilots. Their music genuinely helped me get over one of the loneliest, depressing periods of my life. This boy flat out insulted me for liking them, and it really hurt. I knew that people hate them because of the garbage fanbase they have. He made me feel genuinely ashamed about it. I agree, the fanbase is pretty garbage and sometimes even creepy in my opinion. Since that happened to me, I've basically vowed to myself to never ever mention that I even like twenty one pilots. People are unecessarily mean, and I don't understand. Why couldn't that boy just have respected that I like them and just say he doesn't like them very much, and not been so mean? Moral of the story: Don't be so mean to people, or shame them because they like something that you hate.
I’ve seen them live twice, and adore their music. Their live show is phenomenal. It’s true that the only problematic thing is their fan base. Mostly the obnoxious 12 year olds who take offense to everything and send death threats to anybody who even so much as thinks of opposing Tyler and Josh. Some of the fans are decent. It’s not even a matter of being cringey or obnoxious. It’s a matter of some of them simply not being good people, and that creates a bad face for their fanbase in its entirety.
After being a part of the clique for nearly 4 years, I feel like the cringy side of the clique are a loud minority. Yes, there are *alot* of fans who take it way too far, but if you look deep enough, there is a strong, creative and beautiful community there. It's just sad that the community is being ruined by over the top fans
Salma Mokhtar some people are floating over to k-pop and such because we're just sick of the toxic clique too, i mean i really like tøp but since they aren't really (at all) active right now i'm finding new and different music which is fine, and i think it's what other people are doing as well, because hopefully josh and tyler will come back after the hiatus and i still like them.. but the clique is a mess and i don't feel like being involved with that. -also the tøp fans that i've seen in k-pop fandoms seem like mostly the nicer ones- 🤷
I’ve seen tons of comments about how they suck because preteens and teens are the fan base now, but I’m a preteen and I’ve been a fan for ages and part of the clique and I’ll always love them and I do love them because I fully understand the meaning of “stay alive”, and as I child I have had times where I’ve wanted to give up, and twenty one pilots saved me. I have no way to repay that dept, and I will forever be loyal and love them.
same here. i was going thru a really dark time and i was exposed to Twenty One Pilots. they helped me get out of that spot and continue to help me, and whenever i need someone i can always just go to the clique.
when he started talking about hardcore fans I thought I would relate to it all, but everything he said shocked me. I’m so sorry about those who threatened you; they obviously take things like this way too seriously.
Actual death threats? Omg I’m so sorry on behalf of the clique that’s the exact opposite of what their music says and I’m disappointed that some of their fans don’t get it
I don’t mind Twenty One Pilots but it’s the fans that turn me off a bit. They’re so radical and will argue with people if they disagree. I like their music but it isn’t as “ground breaking” as people say it is.
The clique isn’t obsessive! Omg why would you say that the clique is the best fanbase stop hating on Tyler and Joseph and dissing the clique stop hating!!!!!!!
When twenty one pilots stopped uploading ( or as they are in hiatus) everyone after a while started to get mad and commenting/sending messages to them like " UPLOAD A NEW MUSIC VIDEO " or " I'm so done with this, if you don't come back I'm leaving". It truly breaks my heart, especially after their tour they need a lot of breaks, they toured for like what ? 2 years ? I don't know how much exactly but it was for a very long time. In general, the fan base is cringe right now
At first the clique and overplayed songs made me annoyed by them, tbh. But then I was like "dammit, why do people love them so much, they can't be that good!" Boy, I was wrong. Still not a huge fan but now I get the hype. UPD: Also them being friends with Paramore is +100 to their karma
Before commenting or disliking remember this, Just because Jon Is talking about why people dislike Twenty One Pilots don't assume that Jon dislikes them too. Remember he gave Vessel a 5/5 rating
as a proud member of the clique, I came to this video ready to be upset and offended but I honestly agree with your points because they seemed thought out and rational. thank you for not just blindly spreading hate. 💛:-)
I don't really like TOP but what pushed me over the edge with them was that Hot Topic had them listed as a punk band lmao. I complained about it on twitter and fans were like "umm... why do you hate them so much??" and I had to explain that them NOT being punk isn't = to hate. But THEN I realized theres a whole group of people who think that they're into punk bc they like TOP. It's the weirdest thing ever
Personally I've always separated the clique and the fandom. The fandom is the insane teenagers who obsess over the two of them (fandoms tend to focus themselves more on the people and turn them into idols). The clique, based on what I know from before the blurryface era and my own opinion, is the group of people who are passionate about and dedicated to the message that the band stands for and who have a deeper appreciation of the music. Of course there can be crossover, I definitely consider myself part of the clique but I admit that I can have some fanboy-ish tendencies, but on the whole I consider them separate groups.
Imagine Dragons, Green Day and Foo Fighters will be interesting The rest don't see to have many reasons or aren't enough popular to make it (also, Jon already make one with FOB)
Imagine Dragons- because their lyric are crap and they pretend to be a rock band when they are straight pop. Green Day- Because they're moron Trump or Bush supporters. (already did one sort of) Fall Out Boy- Because they haven't made a good album since 2008 and are trying to conform to pop culture. (already did one btw) My Chemical Romance- Because they hate anything labeled emotional even though mcr is hard rock, glam rock, punk rock, and pop punk. Walk the Moon- Because they are labeled Rock even though they are obviously a fan girl pop band and overrated. Foo Fighters- I don't know. Cause its not Nirvana i guess. Bastille- overplayed and to poppy. Lack of instrumentation I know you said 5 but I don't have time.
Evan Light I’m not a Green Day Fan at all, but are you really going to call them Trump supporters when they made a song called “no trump, no kkk, no fascist USA” and performed it in a public event? I’m pretty sure they’re anti-trump supporters lol
As a HUGE foo fighters fan, i havent heard or seen anyone who actually hates foo fighters. the closest ive seen to that is just that they arent hardcore fans.
21 Pilots, Imagine Dragons, Fall Out Boy, Panic at the Disco and others with this techno electro pop dance shit are killing what is labeled as alt rock or alternative music in general. Today's alt rock is far from being alternative because this is mainstream pop. I can understand why young adults are getting sick of this so called alternative rock pop stuff and these bands like Greta Van Fleet are gaining in popularity now because old school classic rock is now the new real alternative rock with today's younger adults and thank God for that. It is awesome to read comments from young adults in that they are sick of this programmed electronic pop dance stuff and want to listen to actual instruments again. Other old genres are making a comeback with some young adults as well like, acoustic and electronic blues, metal and all the subgenres in metal, old school country & western music, folk music, bluegrass, jazz and classical. Old school music is now the real alternative music today and thank God more young adults are starting to go back to listening to bands that play real instruments. These programming techno pop dance mixes by modern pop sounding bands of today sound like it is more DJ programming than actual live music.
I like them. Nothing really wrong with who they are as people and they make the music they want to make... The fans on the other hand make people turn away. It's just the fans trying to over hype them as some kind of gods.
I have a BIG problem with the church and Christianity and religion in general as there’s a lot of awful things going on with that but twenty one pilots have never really made me mad with their religious belief. I think it’s very interesting how they present religion as a positive thing when to me it has always been quite hurtful and about hate and excluding others, just in how the religious people I see and have around live with religion. So I like the counterpoint being set by twenty one pilots even though I can’t agree with the sentiment of religion.
Cara Ellen it's just you can find good and bad people in region, there's still heart and morals to relegion but as any other system it gets corrupted with time.. so yeah you have a point
The only reason fans are crazy about them is because we relate with them. They help us through so much, and I dont mean to have hate it's just saying that hey we love them because they love us and they have the issues that the Cliqukies have! [♡Stay Alive♡]
1. I don't hate his voice, but I can understand this reason. There are singers' voices I can't stand too. 2. I enjoy intelligently written lyrics that have deeper meaning. 3. I agree with this point but I separate fans from the artists themselves. 4. I'm an atheist and I have heard some examples of lyrics that I could tell could be interpreted as being about a higher power but it doesn't bother me because they aren't being overtly preachy imo. 5. I can get that one, but you don't have to listen to the radio. 6. Emo or not, if I like the music, I'll listen. But I can understand why that might turn some people off.
To everyone saying it panders to thirteen year old girls, how? How is their music tailored to girls? I understand that many teens can confide in that type of lyrical content, but I would LOVE to hear one valid point that shows they make music for girls.
Nicole Rogers it makes no sense to me that they're catering to "girls" they don't specifically cater to a certain gender in no way whatsoever...whoever came up with that ideology is tripping
Nicole Rogers I would say that their music is much more for teenagers but not any specific gender. I don’t hear many people make that argument. Maybe it’s just because most of their fans are girls. At least the open ones.
Nicole Rogers That's just a semi sexist put down for things that people consider bad. Nobody ever said that The Beatles were for teenage girls and some people say that teenage girls weren't their biggest audience( yet video evidence suggests otherwise ).
Jonah Nutellord Yeah, I totally get what you’re saying. I don’t think that’s a major argument but while I was scrolling through these comments I saw multiple comments stating such. We may just be exposed to different people, but I’ve found that when I meet people in real life who dislike them, they occasionally bring up that point. I did write that comment in the spur of the moment, but I still think my message still applies to anyone who uses that argument, regardless of the amount of people who do. : )
I love Twenty one pilots but the clique is a very toxic fan base, like you said, attacking people and spamming hate. That's the reason why i don't talk about twenty one pilots online cause any differing opinion of the popular one will cause an uproar.
what makes me sad is that I am a younger teen, and older fans constantly say that I am a fake fan because I am younger. I have listened to all of TOP's albums, I have all of them on my phone, etc. I genially love their music. They have helped me through some difficult times in my life. If you are one of those older fans putting younger fans down just for being younger, I would advise against it.
This video is too true. In all honesty, the main reason I didn't want to associate myself with the band in the first place was because of the shitty fanbase. There was the one girl I knew who literally said she wanted to die at age 21 to be a *true fan*. However, I realised that once I look past that, I'm in love with their lyrics and music which is all that should matter. As a 14-year-old girl, I might often get accused of liking stuff for reasons other than the music bc that's what people my age have been stereotyped as. But I know as long as I know my true intentions for listening i can block out people that may accuse me otherwise.
Yesss, their fanbase is :/ I saw an interview with Josh Dun and the people who edited the video wrote "Josh Dun from 21 pilots" and every comment was about how awful and disrespectful to the band was that they wrote 21 pilots instead of Twenty One Pilots or TØP... like... chill...
I think their songs are actually amazing and they’re amazing and I love them so so much....Also not all the fans are bad....a lot are super nice and help each other
I think every fanbase have these radical fans that makes people want to hate the artist/band but those people will realize later that they have gone too far. But I'm glad that there are also pretty amazing people even in clique.
I'm 12 and to be completely honest, I love Twenty Øne Pilots. I know it sounds cliché when I say that they help me with suicidal thoughts and depression but to be completely honest I relate to what they're saying and they help me with bad stuff going on in the world by addressing it. They really help but I hate some of the fan base. I've met some really lovely fans and haven't really had the misfortune of meeting assholes but I know how bad it can be.
Twenty One Pilots is my favorite band of all time. But god dammit the skeleton clique is just so fucking bad, here's a list of bad shit they've done; Stalk both Tyler and Josh Find out where their parents live to take cringe-filled cosplay pictures Crash a wedding of a person they don't know, not even formally dressed (it's a nit pick but whatever) just because Josh Dun was there And leaking Tyler's address right after he moved into a new house with his wife.
knøw what? Yøu're right, there's nøthing wrøng with the fans. I'll just fall in line with them *cough* JØSH DUN MAKES MY ØVARIES EX P L Ø D E THEY SHØULD TØUR WITH FALLØUT BØY AGAIN
their fanbase irritate me, they often claim top are one of the most original bands around and they can't be put into one genre, they're indie pop. plain and simple.
The thing that bugs me about TOP I personally don't like their sound but people assume I do because I like MCR, which has a completely different then TOP.
"o my josh im so dun" and "smol potatoe" can be obnoxious. I do agree that people who call them "daddy" are disgusting. but "stay alive" and "I love you" are good sentiments they just wish you good thoughts and feelings.
Interesting video Jon, it really captures what is going on. I don't get why people would hate on bands/singers without having given them a chance, it maddens me so much. If it's not your thing it's not your thing, but why the hate? The worst thing about Twenty One Pilots haters in particular is that they seem to think that the whole fan base is cringy and they also seem to really enjoy attacking the fans. As someone who cares a lot about the music it really hurts to see so much hatred. I know they are not talking about the kind of fan I am, but because they address the entire fanbase it still feels personal. Edit: what makes me most sad is that the fandom was so supportive and nice and caring up until they became popular and now there's so much toxicity
Yea I dunno I never considered me and my best friend emo until we asked to go to a panic concert while watching Brendon urie make those high heels work and my mom asked us if we were going into the emo phase

I used to not like Twenty One Pilots at all because I didn't initially get into their music and, as an Owl City fan, I self-dubbed them the hip hop equivalent (or maybe even a ripoff) of Owl City (given their lyrical style and occasional Christian message) that was way more popular than Owl City. But then, when Stressed Out, Ride, and Heathens blew up, I decided to check out more of their music. The timing was perfect because I was in a dark place at the time and it really helped me! I now am a Twenty One Pilots fan, but I do keep my distance from some of the fans as per your reason #3. I no longer think of them as an Owl City ripoff but as a genuine band I love!! Just my take and brief story about me and TOP!
Lyrical content that make you think is the best. For instance, I feel like i get a history lesson everytime i listen to rage against the machine. Sometimes mindless music is cool, but I'd rather be mentally stimulated.
I guessed the reason I’m not a fan of the 21T is because I find them boring and kinda generic, I respect them, but I don’t like them, they seem to be one of those “read the lyrics” artists, which I’m not a fan of
I love frank more than I love myself No I find his music trash, I’m just not a fan of the deep lyrics/generic beats combo, I like my music to sound good and if it has lyrics, better be good story, message, or poem, seriously, Florence + The Machine’s album “Lungs” was great, and it has its moment, but then Ceremonials came and it became kind of tedious since not a lot of the songs sounded similar, but it has some “deep” lyrics
All I’m saying is, if you want deep lyrics, engage me, because if it’s not, I feel like I’m hearing a lecture with background music, be like St. Vincent or Everything Everything which make songs that are deep, but great and catchy
I’m just one of the people that hate them because I’ve never really liked them but as soon as I listened to their cover of cancer by My Chemical Romance and that made me despise them so much
I had the realization that the fans, or rather, the 'fanbase' is a musician's crowning glory, or would lead them to their greatest downfall. It's terrifying to think their careers are at our hands like this and we either take it too literally or we're too 'salty' to give it a chance for what music is. We forget the true meaning of all of this and it's sad.
I’m scared to say this, but in all honesty, I think it’s just because they’re not as original of a band as their fans would like to admit, and their fans get really pissy whenever someone expresses a negative opinion towards them.
Jonah Nutellord are they more original than 99% of music on the radio? Yes. Are they original compared to all contemporary music? No. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ when I got into them I was into generic indie bands and their genre fusions were new and exciting (esp bc as a white girl I didn’t really get rap/hip hop); but you can’t deny that they’re kinda formulaic
empty sky To assume that all music on the radio is unoriginal is wrong. Most of it is I’ll admit but 99% is a joke, also there are plenty of artists or bands way more talented than TOP they’re just underrated.
the brave bartender I was just saying that before I heard tøp on an alternative station, I only thought of rap as thugs bragging about how rich they are and how many women they sleep with, dismissing the whole genre bc I wasn’t really exposed to it due to my cultural background. Now, I’m a huge fan of at least 3 hip hop artists (Tyler the Creator, BROCKHAMPTON, Kendrick, Kanye to some extent) all bc tøp showed my hipster ass not to be so dismissive about rap, hip hop, reggae and pop music. ((((And also neither tyler nor josh are technically white but it doesn’t really matter lmao)))
I love how the ones complaining about the “cringey” fan base are the ones with “ø”s in their usernames and twenty one pilots profile pics! Like I have nothing against that but don’t complain about a fan base as a whole when ur part of the fan base xoxoxoxoxo

comedy and tragedy I mean yeah... he's gr8 😂😂
What they fail to realise is that no one is gonna open up completely in front of an audience (only exception is Dan Harmon but he is.... special 😂)

The toxic fans really suck, just cause Twenty One Pilots are very talented. They unknowingly are half the reason people dislike them 😩

The fanbase is bad, but not as bad as the K pop fanbase..
The kpop fan base is so annoying ugh
Well not everyone, just the annoying ones. There's a lot of people who just like kpop but they'll say "but the fanbase"
thats probably why everyone went from the tøp fandom to kpop lmao
No they’re just as worse. Many people have faked suicide for attention from the band.
DanneBOI yeah I agree it could be an American thing. I'm from Germany and I didn't see cringey teens at concerts either so idk
Krondo 17 Yeah, I can see where you're coming from.
Preach! It’s my second favourite band and yes, it’s just a REALLY loud minority!
Yes
OK I DONT CARE THAT THIS IS A YEAR LATE BUT I LOVE YOUR PROFILE PIC AND YOUR COMMENT
@نائلة محمود sorry for being late but the only fake fans are those who pretend to listen to the band for popularity, not because they actually like the music. And actually the toxic ones I would call fake fans too. Real fans don't act like that. Anyway, that's just my opinion. Have a great day 😊

im so fucking sick of people saying they don’t like tøp because of the fanbase literally every mainstream fanbase is toxic in some way or other and it’s been said so many times. if you hate the music or the band because of the fanbase then it seems like you liked them for all the wrong reasons in the first place tbh.
WhyAreYouTakingSoLongSanFranscisco this!!!. I went through a phase when I was really embarrassed that I liked them bc I didn’t want to be seen as just another edgy try hard but it really shouldn’t fucking matter! It should be about the music and not about what other people think of them

#1 Tyler's Vocals
#2 lyrics you have to pay attention to in order to understand. (sorry, this one pisses me off.)
#3 the fan base (understandable).
#4 religious associations.
#5 overplayed and overrated (not overrated, overexposed) (not wrong)
#6 "emo" aesthetic.
the perfect screwup
How are Tyler and Josh emo? 🤔 Sure, they've self harmed, but emo? That's a little far.
Megan Proffitt they've never stated that they've self harmed, and you can't assume that. also self harm isn't "emo".
Sarah,
I may not have a correct or fully developed understanding of what 'emo' is, however, I can assure you I did not say the band was emo.
Sarah,
I'm sorry you struggle with emo, however, I did not classify it that way, but thanks for your clarification.
Reason #1: I love Ty's voice, I think it's unique af, but people have opinions so-
Reason #2: It's called metaphors, and metaphors are called art.
Wait, how are you not Christian if you believe in God, go to church, and pray?
@@chadls921 christianity isn't the only religion with "God"
I have been listening to twenty one pilots for 3 years now and I am not part of the clique and am not OVERPROTECTIVE of them but I do protect them a little from people who completely trash them because there music helped me, and is helping me, through a lot of stress, anxiety, and depression.
😮
HalfSourDyl Emo as in emotional, yeah, they are emo. But they don’t drop scene on top so it’s not too ridiculous.
I have listend to that album countless times. It is tied for my fav album of all time. I never said they were putting on a show, just pointing out that in terms of genre, they are not emo.
Maybe emo (emotional) rap

I love the music. Favorite band ever. But the fan idolatry of Josh and Tyler is ridiculous.
DarkEchoes
Thank you!
@@kosmic100 I've seen people say "ThEy ArE pErfECt smOl bEanS" and tbh I don't think they know the definition of perfect lol
Big agreement
Yeah, their music saved my life, but I wont treat them like gods for it and hand feed them grapes while I fan them with a palm leaf.
I respect them like humans.
They are better than most, though, haha
@Panic!! at the tøp No one is perfect. To state that someone is is a lie.
@Panic!! at the tøp Perfect is defined as having no flaws. Tyler and Josh have flaws. I have flaws. You have flaws. I'm just done with human beings being treated like Gods when what they are are entertainers. 21 Pilots seem chill. I'm just tired of unnecessary worship.
*THE. FAN. BASE.*
Not all of them, of course. I was actually thinking about this video idea. You read my mind lol.
The only thing to hate about twenty one pilots is the fucking "fanbase". I put that in quotations because it's more like a giant swarm of hyenas screeching as loud as they can.
Rifty's Cat omg why would you say that to the tøp fanbase? Everyone criticizes it stop hating
Izaak Steeves When you have people freaking out over the lead singers wife posting a picture of him, you know you have a problem.
I know right I'm a huge fan of their music but the type of people who listen to twenty one pilots make me not want to tell people I like them.
Exactly.
Real, especially with the lyrics
As a part of the clique, I agree with most of the points you made. It's a shame the toxic people are the most known. I've talked to some really sweet people in the clique. But I mean, there will always be toxic people, fanbase or not.
Some toxic fans are quite annoying although I’ve never met one I know there’s a lot of them, and there’s also a lot of them too I agree,,I also love ur profile pic 🙂

True, although Migraine gives off some ‘emo’ vibes in Vessel
Truce
I don't think "emo" is a proper term for music genre, just because.. It's all about the lyrics. They are emotional people, they are sensitive as lot of us are, and they write about it. For me the word "emo" brings back the picture of 2006 emo kid with emo bangs, piercing and stuff, and this is not the case here.
@@unfortunate2565 its emo kid
@@mywallet7367 Nope. It' s alternative pop/rock
not a 21p fan but i dont think any fanbase can exist without cringey fans, like literally every single mainstream rock band/other fandom i'm in i've come across fan behaviors that make me want to jump off a cliff
lars benzedrine Exactly why I love fandoms of underrated bands
That’s true, with the 1% theory, it states that 1% of fandoms are generally horrible. And with smaller fandoms, that 1% is easier to manage than larger ones since that 1% is smaller with a smaller number, buuut top seems to have way more cringy fans than other larger fanbases. I feel like different large fanbases have different types of cringe, but top is just horrible
blisteringberries I dont think top is at 1% more like 20%
[insert screaching about wrong abreviatons etc etc etc because honestly, yeah, that side of the fanbase is so fucking toxic]
We are here, and we don’t care if you write 21 pilots instead of twenty one pilots
i do, but i know i'm petty about tiny things
Yeah!!
It's just sad that the community is being ruined by over the top fans
i agree i wish the super toxic side wasn't that loud
over the *TOP* fans XD
im sorry
You should have said over the *TØP* fans XD ok I’ll stop really tho I agree
i think the toxic fans are slowly leaving and turning to bts cause of the hiatus anyways
I see them like I do Rick and Morty. I like the actual content but can't stand the fanbase.
Andy Benji yess
I’ve seen tons of comments about how they suck because preteens and teens are the fan base now, but I’m a preteen and I’ve been a fan for ages and part of the clique and I’ll always love them and I do love them because I fully understand the meaning of “stay alive”, and as I child I have had times where I’ve wanted to give up, and twenty one pilots saved me. I have no way to repay that dept, and I will forever be loyal and love them.
I've been a fan since 1st grade. I'm 13
Right
same here. i was going thru a really dark time and i was exposed to Twenty One Pilots. they helped me get out of that spot and continue to help me, and whenever i need someone i can always just go to the clique.
I agree with absolutely 0 of these things. I respect people's opinions, but I definitely don't agree
Would you agree that the reason to hate them....is they make just generic crappy music?

I don’t mind Twenty One Pilots but it’s the fans that turn me off a bit. They’re so radical and will argue with people if they disagree. I like their music but it isn’t as “ground breaking” as people say it is.
Heather Burkett exactly. They also gotta branch out with lyrics imo, the topic of anxiety/depression theme gets old

Izaak Steeves you would think for a crazed fan like yourself, you’d at least get their names right. NEXT
But then I was like "dammit, why do people love them so much, they can't be that good!"

It's the weirdest thing ever
wait are you the twenty one pilots isnt emo girl
Personally I've always separated the clique and the fandom. The fandom is the insane teenagers who obsess over the two of them (fandoms tend to focus themselves more on the people and turn them into idols). The clique, based on what I know from before the blurryface era and my own opinion, is the group of people who are passionate about and dedicated to the message that the band stands for and who have a deeper appreciation of the music. Of course there can be crossover, I definitely consider myself part of the clique but I admit that I can have some fanboy-ish tendencies, but on the whole I consider them separate groups.
Same
All 7 reasons should’ve been the skeleton clique
5 reasons people hate Imagine Dragons, Walk the Moon, Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, Bastille, Foo Fighters, and Green Day.
Imagine Dragons, Green Day and Foo Fighters will be interesting
The rest don't see to have many reasons or aren't enough popular to make it (also, Jon already make one with FOB)
AlexFlamer444 he did Green Day and FOB
Imagine Dragons- because their lyric are crap and they pretend to be a rock band when they are straight pop.
Green Day- Because they're moron Trump or Bush supporters. (already did one sort of)
Fall Out Boy- Because they haven't made a good album since 2008 and are trying to conform to pop culture. (already did one btw)
My Chemical Romance- Because they hate anything labeled emotional even though mcr is hard rock, glam rock, punk rock, and pop punk.
Walk the Moon- Because they are labeled Rock even though they are obviously a fan girl pop band and overrated.
Foo Fighters- I don't know. Cause its not Nirvana i guess.
Bastille- overplayed and to poppy. Lack of instrumentation
I know you said 5 but I don't have time.
The clique is different now, we all bully Tyler for fun but he does bully us back like we were friends, but we love Tyler & Josh and they luv us back
21 Pilots, Imagine Dragons, Fall Out Boy, Panic at the Disco and others with this techno electro pop dance shit are killing what is labeled as alt rock or alternative music in general.
I enjoy TØP but it’s mostly the fans (the clique) that makes people hate them
Rachel!attheDiscø Kiwi støp hating the fans!
Izaak Steeves I don’t hate the fans. Some of them are really cringy.
Rachel!attheDiscø Kiwi nø they aren’t
Izaak Steeves I guess.
As a clique member I can say: yes some of us are really damn crazy and cringy.
Religion goes through cycles of corruption, like everything else, and I think it’s high time, for Christianity especially, to clean up their act.
yeah, they speak about religion in more of a saving sense than an aggressive sense
and yeah there are good and bad parts of religion
Hannah Rose I agree. I go to church, pray, etc., but the things I see Christians do sometimes are ridiculous.
The only reason fans are crazy about them is because we relate with them. They help us through so much, and I dont mean to have hate it's just saying that hey we love them because they love us and they have the issues that the Cliqukies have!

Reasons:
Fanbase
Fanbase

TØP isn’t my favorite band, but it’s very high up on the list. And I didn’t know the fanbase was bad until I read the comment section
I love Twenty one pilots but the clique is a very toxic fan base, like you said, attacking people and spamming hate. That's the reason why i don't talk about twenty one pilots online cause any differing opinion of the popular one will cause an uproar.
Every reason is the insufferable fans
what makes me sad is that I am a younger teen, and older fans constantly say that I am a fake fan because I am younger. I have listened to all of TOP's albums, I have all of them on my phone, etc. I genially love their music. They have helped me through some difficult times in my life. If you are one of those older fans putting younger fans down just for being younger, I would advise against it.
genially? but yes i agree
Yesss, their fanbase is :/ I saw an interview with Josh Dun and the people who edited the video wrote "Josh Dun from 21 pilots" and every comment was about how awful and disrespectful to the band was that they wrote 21 pilots instead of Twenty One Pilots or TØP... like... chill...
I think their songs are actually amazing and they’re amazing and I love them so so much....Also not all the fans are bad....a lot are super nice and help each other
TØP is good, and I enjoy listening to then, but DEAR GOD THE FANS ARE AWFUL.

Twenty One Pilots are one of my new favourite bands but the fanbase...Oh God!
I think every fanbase have these radical fans that makes people want to hate the artist/band but those people will realize later that they have gone too far. But I'm glad that there are also pretty amazing people even in clique.
i dont get why people like stressed out, ride, and heathens that much LOL
I'm 12 and to be completely honest, I love Twenty Øne Pilots. I know it sounds cliché when I say that they help me with suicidal thoughts and depression but to be completely honest I relate to what they're saying and they help me with bad stuff going on in the world by addressing it. They really help but I hate some of the fan base. I've met some really lovely fans and haven't really had the misfortune of meeting assholes but I know how bad it can be.
Twenty One Pilots is my favorite band of all time.

their fanbase irritate me, they often claim top are one of the most original bands around and they can't be put into one genre, they're indie pop. plain and simple.

Yeah, he just can’t comprehend a metaphor
I used to hate Tyler's voice but I grew to like it
I used to not like Twenty One Pilots at all because I didn't initially get into their music and, as an Owl City fan, I self-dubbed them the hip hop equivalent (or maybe even a ripoff) of Owl City (given their lyrical style and occasional Christian message) that was way more popular than Owl City.
I love Twenty One Pilots so it makes me sad that they have such a shitty fandom and not many normal people I know seem to like them either.
xGracigloo I respectfully disagree with you.
I'm pretty sure "normal people" doesn't mean much honestly. Unless you're talking about serial killers or something.
Izaak Steeves no it's needs to be dissed. That shit turned me off from the band for such a long time.
Ryan Løbes McGee all I said was that I respectfully disagree with her/him (I wouldn’t want to assume genders in 2018 🤣)
Thanks for proving my point.
Any fanbase sucks. PERIOD.
But, most of the reasons why people hate it are the reasons I love it af
Their aesthetic tho
As a clique member; I can confirm we think every step Tyler takes is important to the lore
Lyrical content that make you think is the best. For instance, I feel like i get a history lesson everytime i listen to rage against the machine. Sometimes mindless music is cool, but I'd rather be mentally stimulated.
They are a good band the fanbase is alright and the lyrics ARE NOT FOE EVERYONE OK

*Currently on a bit of break*
I guessed the reason I’m not a fan of the 21T is because I find them boring and kinda generic, I respect them, but I don’t like them, they seem to be one of those “read the lyrics” artists, which I’m not a fan of
Double D Dabs on Dem Haters yess! I totally agree
I bet you love lil pump
I love frank more than I love myself
No I find his music trash, I’m just not a fan of the deep lyrics/generic beats combo, I like my music to sound good and if it has lyrics, better be good story, message, or poem, seriously, Florence + The Machine’s album “Lungs” was great, and it has its moment, but then Ceremonials came and it became kind of tedious since not a lot of the songs sounded similar, but it has some “deep” lyrics
Double D Dabs on Dem Haters im in love with you
All I’m saying is, if you want deep lyrics, engage me, because if it’s not, I feel like I’m hearing a lecture with background music, be like St. Vincent or Everything Everything which make songs that are deep, but great and catchy
The 1.2 dislikes are all crazed fans. I love tøp and I liked this video, cuz u always have food points
No. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ when I got into them I was into generic indie bands and their genre fusions were new and exciting (esp bc as a white girl I didn’t really get rap/hip hop); but you can’t deny that they’re kinda formulaic
empty sky what does being white have to do with that? josh and tyler are both white
empty sky To assume that all music on the radio is unoriginal is wrong.
((((And also neither tyler nor josh are technically white but it doesn’t really matter lmao)))
empty sky Huh? I never mentioned rap anywhere? Do you really think rap is the only mainstream genre?
