    The tone on your Precision was killer, reminded me of Geezer Butler. Please keep making videos like this, we do care about this stuff and you're always very generous with your knowledge and it's very much appreciated. Thank you.

    Thanks Dan, as always great stuff. For anyone who found this interesting, I highly recommend listening to Ian Allison’s recent podcast for Scott Devine, #166 from April 7th, “Does Gear Even Matter”. Made me realize I have more than enough gear for what I do bass wise, right now.

    Hi Dan. Thank you once again for some great advice:- your videos are invaluable. This one prompted me to buy an evidence audio lyric hg cable, which in my opinion is worth every last penny. It has made every one of my basses( including a fretted and fretless Wal ) sound more vibrant and alive, with purer overtones and harmonic structure. If it improves over the reputed 40 hour burn-in period I’ll be even happier!
    I don’t know why I’m so surprised:- I’m certainly nuts about hi-fi, even to the extent that e.g. I even have silver cable from my rubidium clock providing a control for my dCS digital hub ( and that doesn’t carry any signal at all, it’s just a control cable).
    I can also understand why some people can’t hear any difference. I think that’s because you need a certain level of equipment to expose any difference in sound quality.
    I also understand why to paraphrase a different video of yours, the vast majority of people don’t care what gear is used, but in the end I do think everyone like’s better sound.

    Hi Dan, great video - as usual. Since you're asking for gear questions: I am pretty much a Jazz Bass guy, bought my one (and only) bass, a Fender Jazz Bass (Made in Japan) in 2000. At that time I really disliked the Precision Bass due to its big, chunky neck. But the more I listened to different genres of music and different bands, the more I stared to like the P Bass sound. So how my question is, how closely can you "emulate" a P Bass sound with a Jazz Bass and what would be the best way - obviously you would turn of the neck pickup, but how about using an eq or a different playing position / playing style?

    • @OnlineBassCourses
      @OnlineBassCourses  2 года назад

      Thanks, Daniel! I’d do what the great Joe Osborne used to do: flats, solo the neck pickup and roll off the tone. That’ll get you somewhere a little closer. You’ll never get the exact tone without the spilt coil pickup, obviously. It’ll still sound great!

    Hi Dan do you have an opinion on wireless transponders to replace the cable from my bass to my amp. I’m trying out a pair of 5 GHz , as 2.4 GHz will cut out because my Wifi modem is 2.4. To my untrained ear I don’t notice any degradation of signal, and no latency issue either.

    • @OnlineBassCourses

      To be honest, Steve, I’ve never used one but I know people who use the Line 6 ones.

    That Ibanez was _bought_ cheap, but it's certainly not a cheap instrument. It's a high quality instrument, built by skilled craftsmen in the renowned Hoshino factory. It just needed a little bit of TLC.😁

    Hi Dan, can I ask why you use both a DI and an audio interface? Couldn't you go straight into the Apollo from the bass?

    • @OnlineBassCourses
      @OnlineBassCourses  2 года назад +2

      It’s mainly because I had the DI way before the interface. It allows me to split the signal, plus there are some tonal things I like about the two DIs I mostly use.

      @@OnlineBassCourses thank you. I understand that this gives you the ability to record dry and wet tones at the same time. Would you use/are you using any plugins/effects on the computer to further shape the tone? I mean if you were going straight to the interface.

    • @OnlineBassCourses
      @OnlineBassCourses  2 года назад +1

      @@jacekfalatowicz for RUclips, I’m not doing anything else at all. For other recordings I do a big variety of things! Including plug-ins like Ampeg SVX, the UA Ampeg stuff. I use effects for certain things. That’s where things open up into infinite possibilities.
