  • Shoplifting in England and Wales has risen to its highest level in 20 years.
    The latest crime stats show the numbers were up by more than a third on last year.
    The figures also show that 90% of all crimes go unsolved.

      Tackling a shoplifter creates a major legal headache (the perp has the right to press charges) and it's just unnecessarily endangering yourself; supermarkets have insurance in the event of thefts.

    Luckily for the population as a whole... anytime someone upsets someone on the internet,
    the UK's police will deal with 100% of the complaints. Because it's extremely dangerous to have people saying whatever they like.

      Most of the shoplifters I've seen go out the door have been white. Most of the ones we stalked around the shop or spoke to us (usually to try and distract while their friends pilfered) have had British accents.

      @@linzivalenti A company can write off theft. The reason they don't like it is cause the theft only counts for how much the item cost them. Not what it goes for retail. Also company profits are soaring. Not sure what your talking about.

      @@basedscotsman8142 i could but it is not as cheap as people think it is. i could easily spend £10 on ingredients alone. i eat canned peas and sardines and sometimes thuna in Brine. I just need to warm it up a bit to save on electricity. but i need something different every now and then

    I strongly believe shoplifting is increasing, but it's being reported less. Due to lack of action or prosecution.
    We lose stock every day to theives, and it's not always reported.
    I feel for small shop owners. If they have to increase prices because of these thieves, they then risk losing paying customers.
    How do they survive.

    Shoplifting from big shops is great for the economy. Rathed than tesco taking £100 a week from each of us and siphoning that money out of the economy to an offshore bank account, people keep it and spend it on things within the country. Thus stimulating the economy.

    Im a nurse and the governments decided to take 35% of my pay off me over a 16 year period. Theyve also increased taxes and everythings got much more expensive. Why should I be significantly poorer because the rich want more billions? Id recommend everyone steals 20% of their weekly shop to fight back against the torys and the big businesses profiteering off our misery

      Maybe we should try communism. That way there would be no rich people - although everyone would be poor. I would be interested to know what your salary is if it is taxed at 35%. It must be a lot more than me. Yet I don't encourage people to break the law. I wonder how many shops would stay open in your neck of the woods if everyone just helped themselves?

    I'm broke myself almost on the verge of being homless because of this government and inflation!! The government needs to stop worrying about trump and start taking care of real issue's the American people are facing!! With that being said i wouldn't even steal even food if i was starving to death ! And trust me folks some days i don't even eat so my family can that's how bad it is for us and many others I'm sure .

      Same here, it’s about morality, my daughter works in matalan and when she stops people shoplifting she has had death threats and abuse, people telling her they’ll find out where she lives!! She’s only 21 ffs.
