This was great! Tho, I do wish that you would've spent more time breaking down the Models (like what are they models of?) & all the Vocal filters. But this is Akai's job.
There are so many videos showing how to do this or that, but very few examples of how the MPC processes sound. I enjoyed this video because it lets you hear how the filters sound. I would love to see some examples of how the EQ's and compressors sound on raw sources. I've never had an MPC, and I'm timid to invest in one until I know how it sounds. Great video. Would love to see more.
Amazing video! I’m still getting to know the inner functions of the MPC One. While I knew you could add inserts and edit the waveforms somewhat, I didn’t know much about the filters. Excuse my ignorance if it sounds dumb but this is effectively doing the same thing as when using a graphical vst EQ correct? Just a more direct way? Sorry I’m very new to mixing.
ADSR envelopes for amp and filter are available for pads in both drum and keygroup programs as long as the sample play mode is set to NOTE ON. If set to ONE SHOT the envelope becomes an AHDS envelope (attack, hold, decay, sustain). Therefore release is substituted for sustain and is essentially the same thing. You also have a simple AD envelope in ONE SHOT mode (attack decay).
@@matthiasschneider6398 I started messing around with sound around then, maybe 1986/7, ‘Sound Sampler’ cartridge for the Commodore 64 and a cheap stereo system making so called ‘pause tapes’.
Thanks tubedigga, great tutorial. One question, is it possible to automate the on off of a filter? Or would I need to keep the filter and and just automate the frequency?
No, unfortunately not - I seem to remember you could automate the ON/OFF for all insert effects in a previous firmware version - I may be wrong, but it definitely doesn't work now.
For a start, eqs and filters behave differently so comparing them is kind of pointless. A filter deals with one frequency range whereas an eq can deal with multiple frequencies. However the pad filters are better quality than the insert effect filters in my opinion. The only benefit to using a filter insert effect is that it can be used on an entire program and can also be automated. You can’t automate multiple pad filters simultaneously. Also, using pad filters is so much more convenient when programming your drum programs as everything is at your fingertips, tether than going back and forth to the insert effect editor.
tube digga love your work i have spoke to you a couple of times on the mpc etc my mpc x questions mate, in controller mode why can we over dub from the hardware ? its only allowed in the software by using the mouse ? pain in the ass that and also in the controller mode is there a way to drag and drop the audio? as the option is blacked out when in controller mode? cheers mate
Sorry for the late reply - you can overdub using the hardware so I’m not sure what’s happening if you personally can’t at your end. And you can drag and drop samples on to pads in the software, I’m not certain about dragging audio on to audio tracks if that’s what you mean as I haven’t used audio tracks in the software for a long time. If you can explain a bit more I might be able to help
At top where it says filter type, cutoff, resonance and envolope... what exactly is that last envolope knob? I'm using mpclive and my filterenvolope page is different than yours, I don't think I got that last knob
If you watch from 4.30 onwards I use it and explain what it is. That knob (Envelope Amount or FILT ENV) controls the amount of envelope that is applied to the filter. This video is quite old now so the appearance has changed slightly, but the functionality is the same.
@@TUBEDIGGA I got mpclive so I don't have that knob or it's called something else, the whole filter envolope menu on mpclive is set up way different than yours. Lol They both share same value so they are the same knobs? @@mikescoladeviousmike6377 The velocity sensitivity as it relates to filter means the filter will open and close or vice versa depending on how much pressure you apply to the pad (providing the pads are NOT in full level mode (if they are in full level they won’t respond to pressure). So you have envelope depth and velocity (pressure) depth. Email me at tubedigga@gmail.com if you need to set up a Zoom lesson and I can explain everything and more, peace
When you say ‘bringing out’ do you mean reject or reduce? If so either a high pass (only passes through high frequencies) or band stop at a low setting. Or if you mean bring out as in increase, as said in the video, a high pass filter with a relatively low frequency and moderate to high resonance setting can boost bass frequencies. A low pass will only boost bass frequencies with a low frequency setting and moderate to high resonance but you’ll be rejecting high frequencies in the process.
do you have got any tips on how to automate program filters when I want to automate filter sweeps when all samples are selected (not current pad, all samples)

Great tutorial. What is the reason to flatten a sample? Thanks.
It creates a new sample with the filter (or any other parameters) applied so you can start fresh and apply further filters.
Is it possible to have a envelope release parameter for synth sounds/samples ? For filter and VCA ?
