Inside Long Island, NY's "The Mix Palace" studio in June 2024, Tripp Skylark - also known as iSmokeBeatz - received an alarming message from his videographer, EyeMakeMedia. It read, “you on Power 105 bro,” followed by fire emojis.
This was one of those moments where things felt slightly unreal, iSmokeBeatz says. He rushed over to his phone to open the radio app to catch his new song, “Lover’s Interest” (feat. Jaeo Draftpick) playing on Power 105.1 FM, one of New York's premiere hip-hop stations.
”I was like, oh, snap,” he says. “This is like, different. Today it’s on the radio? It’s unimaginable.”
iSmokeBeatz is an upcoming artist from Long Island, New York, who has been producing since 2018. He initially began creating music by fusing 808 beats and blending genres as he was figuring out a newfound name that reflected him and his passion for music - he landed on 'iSmokeBeatz'.
”I came up with iSmokeBeatz because it reflects my passion for creating music,” he says. “Almost like it’s ‘smoking’ with energy and intensity. I was definitely always a stoner, then I started writing to different sounds and figured, hmm ‘I actually smoked that beat.’”
Since finding his name, iSmokeBeatz has also found his lyricism, voice, and consistency. He began releasing new music regularly within the past three years, pushing out multiple singles, EP’s, and albums on all streaming platforms.
The re-release of iSmokeBeatz's first studio album, “Space Rage,” in October 2023, was then followed by an EP four days later titled, “Unreal,” - which he refers to as a "autobiography" of his own life.
“["Unreal"] is a psychedelic vibe,” he says. “A whole different world, whole different universe. Shit is unreal.”
