Those little mini tracks Tool puts in their albums arent meant to be taken on their own. Sometimes theyre a prelude to a song, but others like Ions are more like palate cleansers. Like eating a slice of ginger in between different pieces of sushi so the taste of the previous one doesnt interfere with the taste of the next one. Ions is supposed to pull you out of the headspace you were in from Aenima to give you a clean slate for Third Eye.
We gotta talk track listings 4 The lateralus album. Should b done in order

Yes yes yes
Yup, this. And be warned, 10-11-12 is like 25 minutes long. It's worth it to listen them all as one but it's definitely a long one.
100%
Here’s the track order for The Holy Gift 6, 7, 5, 8, 4, 9, 13, 1, 12, 2, 11, 3, 10
All I can say is Thank ya for doin this.. I never really listened to Tool, but ya changed that.. again Thank U 🎤🎧🎸🎤🎧🎸
Welcome to the #Toolarmy my friend enjoy the ride
Oh fuck yeah bud!👍
That's a huge compliment for a reaction video, and that's awesome:)
Welcome to the family
10,000 Days from start to finish is going to be amazing. Cannot wait.
Wait till you listen to Rosetta Stoned.
That was complicated for 1996. Wait for Rosetta Stoned.🥳😳👽
The thunder sound was Danny playing the giant gong. Watch him do it live and it is amazing how good he really is.
Man i love your reactions... you do the music so so much justice. Thank you for your work sir.
You HAVE TO DO THE live version of Pushit off of the Salival album! It’s a totally different song then the album version. Trust me, you’ll want to make a video for it!
He's gotta react to the studio version first.
Darrell Palmer agreed
@@darrellpalmer3860 mandatory..
If you watch Tool performing this live, Maynard does that effect during the yell with his hand.
turning the mike off and on.
Yeah, I thought that was how he originally produced that effect on the album?
I know Tool does everything for a reason, and this isn't the reason, but I've always felt that Ions was trolling all the fans who were still listening to the album on a cassette tape because that still was a thing in 1996. I can just see those fans trying to get to Third Eye to avoid that track. 😂😆
The trolling was also on vinyl. I bought this record the week it came out, and "Useful Idiot" is the last track on Side A. I thought I was missing a whole track.
I feel that the intermission soundscapes are akin to auditory parsley... In the way they cleanse the ear palate between sets. My opinion.
Been waiting months for you to listen to Third Eye... amazing production from David Bottrill
They do create an amazing soundscape in Third Eye, it is a trip and an amazing way to end the album as you said. It seems to be a story of someone trying to chase after something they had and lost, and in the end they finally find it again and achieve nirvana.
Sound at the beginning reminded me of a storm raging outside dr Frankenstein's lab...
I always felt like I was flying through the clouds and getting my brain flushed with electric zaps until I hit outer space
Frankenstein's lab. Same
Exactly!
I saw the title and thought.... a review of ions...... that should be interesting.... then I saw Third Eye was included. OK that makes sense.
Everyone should do themselves a favor and listen to this record, start to finish in a dark room with a good set of headphones or earbuds. It's just a really nice hour and a half to relax and be by yourself with something neat.
I have to check and see of there is one of these for Message to Harry Man back too :)
I took my little brother and sister to their first concert to see Tool at the International Ballroom in Atl. When they were touring Aenima, pretty proud of myself for that 25ish years later, even though it was crazy any they were young teens, I don't think I could have taken them to a show they'd still think about this day like that one.
You aren't going to find a serious Tool fan that is going to dump on you for a 99% because some of the interlude tracks, like Harry Manback for a comedy break or Ions to let your brain relax. The album is best experienced as a whole.
Some OGT with new tattoos, nipple rings, sipping Coke will surely disagree though :)
Much of these tracks are like listening to music on some sort of a trip. Listening to Hendrix or early Floyd can give you the same impressions. Third Eye would seem to give you the perception of the music in a different realm.
Ions/Third Eye on acid is brutally, mind numbingly amazing.
I think I’d trip out lol
RIP Bill Hicks
Ooooooh I’ve been waiting for this. 🔧🤘🏼
Awesome.. long time Tool fan from Australia... third eye will always be favourite my favourite Tool track. I’ve been lucky enough to seen this track played live a couple of times.. Keep up the great work can’t wait for the rest of yr Tool journey... there will never be another Tool. 👊
Little hints of what it sounds like on the space ship they travelled here on 🚀
That effect you were talking about is achieved by Maynard singing into a megaphone-like device and then cuttin' it on and off, at least during the live performances; I don't know about the studio recording though. Nonetheless, loving the Tool reactions, as always.
If you watch the 1996 Glass House performance for instance the effect is using that voice distortion mic and Maynard just slapping his open mouth with his hand.
I really enjoy your reactions especially Tool. Thanks for the ride!
The song is about Psychedelics and using them as a "Tool" to explore the realm of Psychonautics... Basically cleaning the dirt out of your third eye to see the things you normally can't...
That tone that you said you need to learn is a custom bass effect pedal that. Justin and his engineers created. It sounds monstrous live!
Fucking.. absolutely love this song! A collection of emotional tangents brought to you by, 4 totally different individuals.
Ty for sharing your collective tool.
I like how the quiet parts make me turn it up so when the loud parts hit they are overwhelming. This was my favourite song for about 20 years
Ha-ha! Made you listen to a bug zapper for four minutes!
Seriously, I saw them live in 1996 and they OPENED with Third Eye. That was phenomenal, who would even play a fifteen minute song in concert, much less kick off the show with it? The crowd was bonkers, but when they got intense you could hear a pin drop in the mosh pit (or at least you could if there wasn't extremely loud music playing). Amazing, jaw-dropping performance that I've never seen anything like before or since. They were still small enough that they were playing small venues. I never got to see them in an arena, I don't know if they translated as well in the larger venues. It's a memory I hope I never lose!
Thanks for reacting to this album, it really took me back to the first time I heard it.
Awesome! These were great back to back! Great reviews as per usual. ✌️
Best intro........RRRRrrrrreal best Intro!🤙🤘
It's been awhile since I've done the ions lead into Third Eye, thanks for reminding me that it's not to be skipped.
The track is listed as (-) ions, as in "negative ions". More information here: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6213340/
Bug zapper and wind tunnel
🤘🏻🌀
That right there is one of my favorite Tool tracks and this album is an amazing piece of work.
One of the things I really, really love on this album is how it plays up the biases we have as a society based on what we've been trained to believe. Especially when you compare the two tracks, Message to Harry M up against Die Eier von Satan to each other. Harry M sounds like a love song (the audio) but in fact it's filled with hate, von Satan sounds like a Zazi rally. But the lyrics/translations are flipped flopped thematically. And then also, Intermission leading into Jimmy. Intermission sounds like a fun innocent day at the carousel, from a child's perspective which leads into, using the same musical notes, Jimmy, which is a haunting child's memory. So many good nuggets on this album that were brilliantly crafted. Just an amazing conceptually put together album. I know you don't care for the filler, and I always skip them, but they serve a purpose to the ideas put forth, which is what makes Tool such a thinking man's delight.
ROSETTA STONED!!!
It’s like the whole album is a millotic Journey.... like Pink Floyd an The Doors would do.. just take ya on that vocal and instrumental Trip of sound 🎤🎧🎤🎧🎤🎧
Video says Pushit but song is Third Eye man, great reaction tho anyway! Please do the Salival Album it’s next, came out in 2000, with Lateralus coming in 2001
ions is supposed to be an ambient sound scape just leading into third eye to set the tone
💓
Me 23 minutes ago :
"Ohhhhh this is gonna be good"
That effect is his voice
Oh man!! With the intro, you looked like you couldn't figure out if you were being punked or not!
ngl Danny carries this song
I hope your gonna do third eye from salival album. It's way better than this one. And it's live, although you wouldn't know it by how good it's sounds.
Did you react to the title song Aenema? Cant seem to find it.
Are you going to bust out the poster at the special event? I've been waiting to see the poster ever since you showed the mail package.
Hey Dramasyde! I hope all is well in your world. Any chance you could react to TOOL’s “descending” ? I’ll be doing you a favour if you did. Cheers 🛠
ions is just one of their filler tracks that brings you to the next....if you see them live you would get the picture a little clearer....
This is also live on salival
Should listen to the album straight through, the segues are more coherent.
Your description says ions + pushit btw
Love your video and the perspective you give. I HAD to bring up that when you react to Tool you remind me of Chi McBride in a bad movie called Let's Go to Prison, in the closing credits. Here's the clip, love ya man!
