Watched a dozen of videos about the LS16 ARE the past few days. But I have to give this to you; your video is certainly my favourite one. Not only because of the way you reviewed and rated the guitar, but mainly because of the pure passion, wonderful playing and absolute happiness you've carried into this recording. Never seen a video of you before, but you are one special and wonderful person! As a beginning/starting intermediate player, I've ordered the LS16 ARE (Dark Tinted) myself a few days ago. It will arrive to me in 3 days. Nearly can't wait for this beauty and am hoping to master the playing of the guitar bit by bit. Thanks again for this video and the (extra) joy and passion you affected me with! :-)
Hey Jarvis - First I would surely have you work on my guitars if you had a shop in the States. Your knowledge of the instrument are second to none! But more importantly you are a good person. Soulful, Insightful, Philosophical. Comes through in your original compositions. And your banter. Sure, I tune in for the guitars. After all, who here doesn't? We are all members of the tribe - Guitar Nerds! But from my standpoint, you could be reviewing a cigar box with a broomstick as a neck and I would check in. It's all about you My Friend!
Hey Jarvis. I enjoy watching your videos. The sound setup is great. Your enthusiasm and joy of playing the guitar is of another world. Hope things work out for you in your work place. You have a very special place here in RUclips world and the hearts of many who enjoy watching you play loves you. Take it easy man. Do what you do best and develop from there. I thing you will go places. Trust in God. By the way, hope you will one day do reviews on Seagull, Farida, L Luthier, JJ if they are under your radar. Cheers man.
Hi Jarvis. I'm always looking for objective guitar reviews, people who aren't beholding to the manufacturer, and are willing to share with the community honest opinions. I purcpurchased Yamahas LS16 after hearing your review. When new, I couldn't hear much in the way of bass, the low e didn't move the top much. But after a few years playing it, the top became more open and responsive to the long sines, even the uv cured polyurethane didn't stop it from opening up. Crystalline is how I describe the sound positively, bright but sterile in the pejorative. Thank you Jarvis for bringing this jewel to my attention. Harry.
I really appreciate your honest and non B.S. approach.. very detailed and honest of possible improvements to benefit the Guitars (and life)..Thanks for the great reviews. Stay safe
Recently came across your reviews. I think you can make any guitar sound well. Your exuberance makes us listeners appreciate even more what you do with a guitar. I notice that you seem to favor a capo on the third fret. Is that for your voice range or do you just enjoy the music in that range? Your compositions are very enjoyable to my ear for sure.
great playing! this is the best review of LS16 I've seen! I saw you reviewed the same guitar in 2017, is there a difference between the 2020 version vs the 2017 versions? I don't think the materials have changed. Do they have the same bracing?
I'm not too sure ...but this is the new model with ARE aged tops and new non scallop bracing patterns that results in this beautiful tone you hear off this video
great review, i think i will purchase this guitar i was deciding between this and the ll16. Do you think I should i upgrade the pins, nut, saddle and tuners and if so what products would you recommend i upgrade with. Many thanks for all the hard work and stay safe
I’m super excited for this review! I have to watch later though. :) I love the sound of L series Yamaha acoustics. I feel like the LS-16 is every bit as punchy and full sounding, if not more, than my 000-18. If only I could find one of these in the US to try out. Also, Let it Flow sounds great Jarvis!
Thank you for another great review Jarvis, as detailed and in depth as always! I like this guitar too but I prefer the FS3/FS5 more for some reason (love the FS5 actually, even compare to a lot more expensive guitars), the LS16 is a bit more metallic and less focus and has less punch compare to the Red Label imo. I guess the tone might change if the nut and saddle are replaced and use other string instead of Elixir? Btw, I have been wondering some aspects of the B&S wood of the LS series, so Yamaha states on their website that LS16 and LS26 have Solid Rosewood B&S and quoted Dalbergia latifolia(Indonesia) as a CITES info, which is Indian RW species wise. However the LS36 has a description of "Solid Indian rosewood" to differentiate the lower 2 series. I am guessing they are all Dalbergia latifolia (IRW) but the LS36 uses a different origin of wood (a more authentic origin)?
Eric Lam well I’m not too concerned .. most importantly you get a good sounding guitar plus the guitar is cheap. People get caught up with the specs of wood and they forgot how it’s made which produces the sound is the most important
What do you think about yamaha ac3r. Which better between with yamaha ls 16. I just play at home not perform on the stage. And i like playing fingerstyle not strumming
Yes very true about music creation from emotional situations, Yes look to your Creator!!. Jarvis Thank You for all of these videos, Im sitting here playing bass along with you ! Can you describe the NECKS of the guitars?, how easy they are to play how thick they are... like a "C' or a"U" or a "D" or "V" ? Neck is so important , to play comfortably!! And we can't feel them like you can in your demos, Thanks! ;-) (BTW, this guitar is not available anymore...only through Malaysia or France.)

I enjoy your videos, alot. I have a LS 16, and have changed the saddle, and put on Grover locking tuners, (which I almost always do). Anyway...I also have an LS 830, (320. US dollars). The 830 is amazing for the $, and fun to play...has a full bright ringing sound for its size. My question: 830 has a Sitka spruce top, LS 16 has an Engelemann spruce top. I don't get the loose bright sound like the 830, (same strings 11 -52 Earthwood). Any suggestions on how to brighten it up? Thanks!
@@phanhuyduc2395 Thank you for your response. Yes...I've come to realize that. That's exactly the difference - warmer. Which is not a bad thing, just different. It's a nice guitar.
H! Thank you for your video reviews! How would you compare this Guitar with Yamaha Red label FS5 ? Since you reviewed both It would be interesting to have your opinion! Thanks!
The LS16 has a modern and clear trebles ...the FS5 is short scale and this results in a warmer tone plus more string slag ...plus its a mahogany so more organic woody tone....i love them both...but if its my money ...i will take the Red label FS5...
