We have just adopted Rudi as his owner had become very poorly. He is taking some time to settle in but we hope we can offer him a comfortable place and a loving human and dog family!
I have had 2 whippets. Both were very different. Lost Molly over a year ago at 14 1/2. Fudge in October last year at 15. I miss them both like crazy. It was the best thing I ever did having them. One day I will be doing it again but not for a while…just can’t bring myself to do it yet. 😢
Freddie looks such a fun dog, i lost my dog last year a staffy nearly 17 years old I'm now just starting to think about getting a new dog rescue or puppy i have plenty if time on my hands early retirement house and garden, i like the whippet routine exercise and sleep seems like a laid back house dog , just wondering what their like regards barking heard like greyhounds they're not as vocal as other breeds
Hello there ☺️ so sorry to hear about your Staffy. They’re one of my favourite breeds. ❤️ Whippets are quiet dogs for sure. They do require recall training, off lead time to run around etc but ultimately they are quiet lap dogs for the most part ☺️ You may also consider an Italian greyhound 🤷♂️ basically a smaller version of a whippet. With all this being said. What about another staffy? They are so great. I really do love them to bits. They have so much love in their eyes 🥰 keep me posted please!
I also adopted a Whippet recently. He was a beautiful 9 months old blue that incidentally was also called Freddie. Unfortunately we had to rehome him as my wife was very allergic to him. We found him a great new home through friends and he now lives with another whippet in Halifax called Whinnie and is very happy. We pay him a visit every 6 months or so to catch up. Fortunately it worked out well in the end for our Freddie but it was a surprise for us and it was very upsetting to let him go. But ultimately my wife's allergic reaction just made keeping him impossible. I'd say if you have any current allergies to animals or any history of allergies then it might be best to look at another hypoallergenic breed as adopting a new dog and then having to give them away is very difficult, stressful and upsetting.
Sorry to hear about this stressful time you had. But thanks for sharing all the same. Im sure it will be of use to many who watch this video in the future. 🙏 Glad the pup found a new home which was included with another Whippet! What a treat 😧
@@BreezeandBants I’ve uploaded a few videos now on training. I had a great time. But I did spend a lot of time studying how to train a dog. There are right ways and wrong ways. It does also require skill and know how. Many people think you can just tell words at a dogs face and they should get it. But it’s not like that at all! 🤣
@@freddiethewhippett we have a 6 month old girl we rescued from a farm not knowing what she’s as “they lied to us” turns out she’s a beautiful whippet X with god knows what we saved her life, struggling with potty training and “chill time”
@@BreezeandBants for chill time. You’ll need to be exercising the dog twice per day off lead preferably so she can run around like crazy! 🤣 without proper exercise. There will never be chill time. As for potty training. You have to be fair but firm. And if you can catch her in the act, even better. A sharp ‘NO!’ And take the dog straight outside with you. When the dog does go to the bathroom. Celebrate the moment like you won the lottery. Pat her, feed her, run around in circles etc. go crazy for her! It won’t take long and she will be good as gold.
@@freddiethewhippett I think I’m burning more calories then a gym session at the minute when she does a wee it’s like Liverpool won’t the champions league again 🤣
Im an elderly lady recently widowed not as spry as I used to be so looking for a companion I can take in the car with me. I have a very large garden and a (very large Maine Coon )cat Imretired so home all the time Would a whippet suit me?
Thanks for your comment 😌 Whippets from puppy from 0-12 months can be very challenging. They require a lot of time, energy and training. Without proper training you might find yourself with an out of control energy ball who jumps on counters, steals foood etc. and with a cat… I’d personally say a whippet is a bad idea. I’m not suggesting they can’t get along. But the prey drive of whippets is SO high. My Freddie will chase and try to kill cats, squirrels, mice, rats, rabbits etc. If I could recommend something perhaps more suitable, who will be more loyal and obedient to you. It would be a cocker spaniel. They are so loving and are born to please their owners. Worth looking into for sure!

How did you find training your whippet ? I’m having a nightmare

I think you can get DNA tests done to test the breed if you were interested.

I think I wrote this 😂
Rehoming? I though that was getting rid of the dog.
I though you adopted when you acquired a dog.
🤣 thank you for the word correction! Have adjusted the title 🙏
