We had a hutch for our bunnies, but is was essentially just home base where the food, water and litter box were at. They also liked to sleep in there, but they spent most of the time out and about in the (iirc) 5x8 C&C pen
So happy that you are out there passing on knowledge on how to properly take care of guineas and bunnies. Breeders are the worse. Breaks my heart how some people think this is okay treatment when it is actually cruel.
OMG thank you Angel From Heaven (The Pig Room) for posting this video. In general, so many people don't care and are oblivious how cruel and uncaring they are. There needs to be more video channels like yours. It's encouraging to see all of your fans who share these feelings! It's important for all of us who feel this way, to respond politely to such ads and videos when you see animal abuse. The abusers will respond rudely and make inappropriate comments, but it's worth it to educate anyway.
I just picked up two piggies from a Craigslist add last night. I felt like I had to get them because they appeared to be living in a 1’x2’ dog crate with no bedding and fecal waste crusted on the plastic flooring. Just like in the Craigslist ad you showed, the owner said she was rehoming them because her son was “not responsible enough” to care for them. It turns out her son is in kindergarten. 😬😩 Yes, 5 years old. She was housing a male and female together, both intact. 🤦🏾♀️ And of course, the female is showing signs of pregnancy. Both of their bellies were wet with urine and they were both terribly underweight. They are separated now and seem to be doing well. And now I’m on baby watch. This “starter pet” nonsense has to stop. Pets of all sizes deserve to live in dignity. Thank you for these videos informing the general public. Hopefully someone comes across this and it prevents the next impulse purchase of a sentient creature. ❤
Im in a guinea pig rehoming group on facebook and its honestly the saddest facebook group Im in. I see people getting rid of guinea pigs even at a very old age 5+ years or older. Its like these people dont have the heart to keep their elderly animals and dont want to deal with their inevitable deaths so they rehome them instead before something goes wrong. I dont know, its might just be me but an animal is for life. When I get an animal, I know eventually I will have to mourn their death. Thankfully a lot of people are more knowledgable about guinea pigs and I rarely see any in those petstore cages being given away. Theres still obviously a long way to go for people who keep rabbits.
So my boyfriend's mother had a bunny in a cage like the first one. He never had time outside and no one interacted with him. She was also feeding him pellets with added salt and no hay. I tried to inform her, but since she worked at a petco years ago, she knew what she was doing and I had no idea how to properly care for a bun. I usually leave that house crying in frustration because of the neglect to all of their animals.
I have that full cheeks cage.. it's actually the BIGGEST they sell at my local petsmart. Like what...? I'm working towards making room to build a custom cage for my pigs.
It’s messed up that pet stores and brands sell these expensive cages that are not even suitable for the animals they sell when a proper enclosure can be diy’ed for the same or less. The rabbit and guinea pig cage is the same price as buying enough C&C grid thingys for a rabbit.
A lot of these cages look more like rat cages or quarantine cages for rats, some even ferret cages. It sucks to see so many people think that these cages work for rabbits. Ugh. It makes me just as sad as seeing people house rats in aquariums
Sadly, I think many of these owners have good intentions, but are poorly informed. Pet stores often provide incorrect care information, either due to incompetence or to sell the products they carry. I've seen reptile keepers completely destroy pet store care recommendations on the basis of enclosure size, substrate, humidity/temperature, etc (especially PetSmart, since they have pamphlets for new owners). Might be interesting to do the same for bunnies/guinea pigs.
If i would have to move I could NEVER agree to live somewhere that doesnt allow animals. Why even agree to something like that if you have pets!!! My cats are my life, my babies. I understand some people have to because of financial reasons but cmon...... You can surely find a place that is ok with animals as long as they are taken care of accordingly. Breaks my heart. Thanks for another great video Austin!❤
143 Broadway in Elmwood Park, New Jersey Can ya please do a video of this pet store. I wanna see your thoughts ! 😁 They do have another place but don't know where it is. Came across them on FB .
Oh my gosh, it is amazing that people take in these precious rabbits without lack of knowledge to the small pet they are getting. It is so sad and you have shown in these ads, that these owners got them because they were cute, some had children who begged for one and really didn't see these precious rabbits as part of the family pets, their was no emotional attachment to these poor animals. Even when you are moving, I think I would make every attempt to find a place that accepts small animals. I know it's a challenge and their are emergencies, but truly, if these are family pets, you try. It is the same with knowledge and care, you do everything you can to provide the best care. I did this with my Harriet who was my petco piggie...I knew I did things backwards and I didn't understand until I seeked out the proper care and learned and boy what I journey it has been, but I continued and went to a rescue and found Clementine for Harriet who is like a sister. I do everything for them, These people never had that attitude sadley. Thank you Austin, Great video!
I have 3 rabbits, 2 cats, 2 adult dogs and a puppy. The cats and rabbits are awesome together. Never try to attack each other. Home base is a XXL dog crate for each bun. Cats know not to go in the crates. They share the floor. Our oldest dog pays no attention to any of the other animals really. Cuddles with but doesn't play. She's a 14 year old pomeranian. Our middle dog is 8 and a Yorkie so we supervise him and rabbits. Though never had issues. The puppy is 12 weeks, we have only done through bars introductions so far. Mainly because she's smaller then 2 of the buns. 😂😂 She's a Maltese, shi-zu, and bichon mix. ❤ So cats and buns can co-habitate. Just give cats places to escape to and same for buns. We also have chickens but only the dogs interact with them since outside. 😂
From what you've seen through your rescues and time searching rehoming sites, do you think there's more of an issue with guineas or rabbits in terms of abandonment, poor care etc? Or is it fairly equal would you say? I don't own either due to my dads allergies but one day when I live alone I'd love to be able to do more rescues of animals like guineas or rabbits. I am currently a reptile keeper and I'm adopting a tortoise from a fosterer friend this week (super excited for himjoining the family!) so obviously I'd have to keep anything furry well away from my reptiles. But yeh, just curious which you've seen having a greater issue.
I have always said it and I will say it again: Do NOT get pets FOR your kids. You should be getting the animal because YOU want it as well. You are the adult and should do the research. Include your kid in the research so they understand this is a 10+ year commitment to the animal. I really wish people would stop getting animals for kids who get bored on a whim. Only get the animal if you're gonna be willing to care for it because kids are like the wind. This INCLUDES fish. In order to own and care for fish you LITERALLY have to become a chemist. Fish are in reality some of the hardest pets because a LOT of science goes into caring for their homes.
That purple cage you called a guinea pig cage.. um no. They need a cage 2 plus that size. Just 1 guinea pig needs 3 times that redickulous purple one. Thats for a hamster.
Not even that - hamsters require a lot of digging and width/length space to thrive. Gerbils I can’t speak for but I imagine is similar. There’s no such thing as an “easy” pet that a child can 100% take care of on their own.
Hamsters and gerbils also have needs that have to be met. If a person can't be trusted with the care of a rabbit or guinea pig, the same goes for any small pets.
We had a hutch for our bunnies, but is was essentially just home base where the food, water and litter box were at. They also liked to sleep in there, but they spent most of the time out and about in the (iirc) 5x8 C&C pen
The first one is absolutely sickening. It doesn't matter if they get "Some" Time out of the cage. They need spacious habitats!!!!
So happy that you are out there passing on knowledge on how to properly take care of guineas and bunnies. Breeders are the worse. Breaks my heart how some people think this is okay treatment when it is actually cruel.
I hate that they show that they should live in fish tanks, they’re such bad influences.

How can people think this is ok…?
These cages are similar to a 6x6 Prison Cell for humans..
If you want your babies to be happy and healthy, get them something larger they can run in !
Just fyi, in case the person from 13:55 sees this, they were selling the cage, not the rabbit. 😉 Hopefully the rabbit is being properly housed now!

The third one was only the cage for sale not the rabbit. That person was saying they need to buy a bigger cage.

Youve really been spoiling us with these constant uploads ! Thanks again for all the hard work 🙏✨️ i hope youre getting some downtime too!
People really do put rabbits and guinea pigs in cages like this then complain why their animals are so skittish probably 😒

I second this ❤
4:13 that cage looks like half a critter nation cage or at least that style of cage. Still not suitable for bunny's or guinea pigs.
I have that full cheeks cage.. it's actually the BIGGEST they sell at my local petsmart. Like what...? I'm working towards making room to build a custom cage for my pigs.

Nawwwt you becoming the Brad mondo for the little buns :) I love this 💅🏻🤷🏼♀️
That 6-level cage looks like something for like, 1 or 2 ferrets, not a bunny??? absolutely wild to put a full rabbit in it
Love your videos

The grandparents that were giving away the brown rabbit for their granddaughter the blue tube looking thing is a kids plastic fidget toy
People honestley dont deserve pets unless they know everything they need to like the cage size the roght food etc😊

Free rabbit and a cage for.. uhh ferrets? Nice.. as long as.. you know.. it doesn't become snake food

I’m sorry, but hamsters need much more space than that
hi
Young children should NOT have bunnies or guinea pigs. If anything they should just own a hamster or a gerbil.
Not even that - hamsters require a lot of digging and width/length space to thrive. Gerbils I can’t speak for but I imagine is similar. There’s no such thing as an “easy” pet that a child can 100% take care of on their own.
