Might have to give the Pallister another shot. We spent a night there during the renovation and our room was definitely not one of the upgraded rooms. Looked about the size of yours but it was a dump. The bathroom was so small you had to squeeze in front of the toilet to close the door. We could hear drunks yelling all night. In fact the whole hotel looked pretty grungy. We ate in a room that looked like a basement storage room. Not very pleasant and the food was awful. I couldn’t wait to leave.

Born and raised in Winnipeg! Heard you on CJOB this morning and the Grand Hotel series so I subscribed. Awesome video, can't wait for more...thank you!! 🙂
June thank you so much and glad you heard me on the station :) hope you love the other episodes including the Royal York going up on sunday. I'm biased but I think next sundays is the best episode in the series :)
@@trav4oilers Yes been in both Calgary and Toronto’s CN tower, many decades ago. Toronto makes one feel like you are going into space, with the speed you get there. 😉
Anthony Hopkins stayed there.I spoke to one of the ladies at the front desk about it and she said he would go in the lounge and read a book from front to back and then retire for the evening. She also said that the staff at the front desk would call him Anthony he always insisted they call him Tony.
thats a really cool story! Thanks for watching my friend, you should check out the other episodes in my railway hotel series across canada covering the story of our country, the passenger service that no longer exists and how the railway hotels built it!
That’s a good deal. I just did a 12 day road trip to Lake Tahoe, CA and back to Orange County, Ca and the rates were anywhere from 200-350 $ per night and that’s USD.

Hey thanks for watching Martin! I wish. Empress wasn't quite in the budget this year since this entire series is self funded but I will be doing it next year as well as 8-9 more railway hotels for next summer :) hope you enjoyed this video and the rest of the series
Great job 👏🏽 I really enjoyed. Don’t forget a lot of people lost in making possible during the track construction. Can’t wait to the rest of them as well can’t wait for hockey stuff as well.💚💚💚🇨🇦
When I worked on the railroad our foreman used to say “your walking on a chinaman’s grave! “ We owe a lot to the Chinese immigrants who helped build our railroads. Apparently if one of the men died they got buried on the spot often under the track.
Well done! I did think some of the editing is way too fast resulting in video that flashes before the eye and is missed if you blink. I also notice there doesn't appear to be credit given to video sources you are using. I recognise a few very quick clips from a previous documentariy done on CP's The Canadian.
Hey Will, thanks for watching. I'm still trying to balance the fast / slow edit style so appreciate the feedback. All footage in these videos has been credited to the appropriate owners and I've confirmed with them. If i missed anything let me know. Hope you love the rest of the series :)
Thank you for supporting my series across the grand railway hotels of Canada. This series will run till the end of August with future stops in Vancouver, Winnipeg, Toronto, Saskatoon, Edmonton and Jasper! Excited to hear your feedback in the comments below. Where should I stay next?
Thanks Trav, I had no idea the Palliser existed and its great learning some of the history behind it.
Now you do, thanks for watching man :)

Easily the most cost effective hotel if that's what you want to try ;)

Not so much before dinner, but after the freezing and dry winter outside the hotel ;)
And there goes the canon ball. Glad you got to experience another sweet hotel, the beds sure looked comfy !
It may become a staple here ;)

Ive stayed at the Palliser dozens of times. The clam chowder is nothing special. The menu as a whole is underwhelming.
