Nikki it is so good to see you back! I can't even express how phenomenal your journals are! You put so much love and detail into them! You mentioned "calm in the midst". I always pray for "joy in the midst". When things are really tough, it makes these times more evident and precious, so, I will pray for those pockets of time to increase for you and your family as you are able to get together! Take good care, Laurel 💖🇨🇦
Hiya Laurel, Thank you so much for the wonderful encouragement and you prayers! I am so blessed to have you all caring for me and my family, and praying for us. As I am writing this, I am sitting in my parents home, already feeling calmer and more joyful. Prayer works! God Bless!!! 💜
I'm so glad to see you back. I hope all is well with you and your family. These are more than journals, they are beautiful creations! Everything you do is amazing. Enjoy your visit and take care.
Hiya Leslie, thanks for stopping by my channel today, and for the lovely compliments! We are doing well, and are now enjoying some time in the beautiful North woods of Minnesota. Hope all is well with you too. 💜
Hi Nora! Thank you so much! Thanks for your prayers, we are safely installed in my families home up in Northern Minnesota for a few days, and it's already calm and peaceful. Hope all is well with you too! 💜
I'm happy to have you back. I looked up your channel a few days ago because I thought maybe RUclips wasn't showing me your new stuff for some reason. I love all of your creations. So much inspiration. Hugs!
Hi Alicia, thanks for stopping by to hang out with me. I'm so glad you found inspiration in my work as that is what I always hope to pass along. It's lovely to be back, I always miss you guys when I'm gone for a bit. 🥰
Absolutely wonderful. This is the best " field notes" journal I've seen. As a huge science lover, this reminded me of school projects I did. I would love for you to do a process video on so many things,....your muslin dye technique, your slides, etc. I am so impressed. I just stumbled across your channel. Of course, now I'm a subbie. Thank you.
Wow Debbie, high praise, I'm blushing. 🥰Thank you very much! I hope you find some inspiration and joy in my work as that. is what I hope to pass along. 💜
I can't tell you how much I enjoyed looking at these absolutely amazing I've saved this video for a whole day as I wanted to give it my full attention. You've given me so many ideas. Love them 🌻
I love both of these journals so much Nikki! Amazing field notes feel to them. Your tassel on the small journal is absolutely gorgeous and I also love the fun ‘in-betweens’ in the big book 🥰
Gorgeous journals! I agree. Things are really surreal/crazy. That's the word I have been using, too! Take care, Nikki. Safe travels to you and your family!
Hi there Jobeth, thanks for stopping by in the midst of your crazy, surreal life! 😆 Isn't crafting just a perfect escape from it though? Glad you could stop by to hang out a bit. Hope you are well! 💜
@@MusingsbyNikkiAdegun Yes, Art in any form, including crafting, is the perfect escape! It was entirely my pleasure to hang out with you for a while!😁🌼🌼🌼
Holy amazingness, Nikki!!! The details were just insanely amazing how you did tiered pages/elements and how you showcased them. It is stunning and I am too late to get the first one in your shop...that's the bummer! TFS your creativity!
@@ladybugonapug-jamie2596 Who knows, it happened within the first 5 minutes of posting the video. It doesn't bother me much. Some people are just not happy no matter what you do. 🤷🏻♀️
Idk if I missed it or where I’ve been but how did you make the old tape?? Love the in between slides areas. I also think the embossing on the slides instead of velum or clear film is BRILLIANT
Love LOVE your workmanship. I have a question for you if you don't mind answering? I am a novas journal maker. I have made only 3 for myself and each of my grown daughters as gifts. Each time I make one I second guess my own ability of book binding and sewing in the signatures only because I know there are expensive tutorials out there to learn how to sew them in "correctly" however I have just followed along with tutorials that were free either on your channel or Zoe's channel and the Book Vandal Shop channel. How did you learn to do all of the beautiful book binding you do and the sewing in of the signatures? I am just wondering if I should invest in those expensive tutorials or maybe it is more of a thing where the more I make them the better I get? Or I have even thought about just buying a book on basic book binding that has lot's of pictures on the steps to take? I am not trying to be cheap at all. I just don't have an extra $200+ laying around and yet really want to make journals using the many digital kits of yours I have bought and ArtyMazes and Tracie Fox's too! I truly admire all three of you ladies and just want to be sure I am giving away a journal that looks good and won't fall apart. LOL
The tutorials on RUclips are the same as expensive. Just Google what your looking for and you will find what you need. Three hole or five hole pamphlet stitch is all you need and there are videos for hollow spines etc.
Don’t make your signatures too thick. Put more signatures in with about 8 sheets folded in half maximum. So put 6-8 small signatures rather than three large for example.
@@lisajmascord8183 Thank you!! I guess I just needed confirmation that those expensive tutorials are great but I CAN also learn how to make good quality journals that will last by following along with the free tutorials online. I really REALLY appreciate you taking the time to encourage and confirm this to me. As with many crafter's I do create because I find it therapeutic and of course it is fun to me! I started out doing mixed media art on canvas and branched out from there. Went on to making those mini albums with all the flips and flaps to put photo's and then I fell down the rabbit hole of journal making! And I am loving how vintage they look and feel and nostalgic they are to look through. However because I am rather new at it I just want to know I am making them well enough that pages don't fall out! LOL Again thank you Lisa!!!!
Hello! I would echo Lisa's thoughts below, I have never taken a class I paid for to learn binding or journal making. I have learned everything I know from RUclips videos. I think Zoe's tutorials are great, and I learned a lot from her. I have been thinking about putting together some videos on how I do my bindings, but hesitate because there is already so much great content out there. I'm sure the tutorials you pay for a great and informative and have higher level stuff in them, but for now I'm good with where I'm at. I think it is a learning process, and mine have gotten better with time as I have tried different things and figure out little tricks that work for me and the tools I have at my disposal. I encourage you to keep plugging away at it, keep looking at some of the myriad of videos out here about different ways people do their bindings, and try different methods. It's a fun learning curve to be on! 💜
@@MusingsbyNikkiAdegun Hello Nikki!!! I just love your digital kits by the way!! I am a huge fan of yours and really appreciate your feedback above! If you don't mind answering one more question??? I narrowed down what my struggle is with making journals. I can make the covers and sew in the signatures but where I am stuck is decorating the pages! How do you do it? Do you make the journals and then go back and decorate the pages? Do you do it in order of say I am gonna go put pockets on all the pages that I want pockets on and then move on the tags, and then adding ephemera, ect??? Or do you just make one journal from beginning to end and then move on the next? Ok this defiantly more than one question...lol Also how do you decide what you are gonna add? I guess my ADD is getting in the way of actually finishing the darn journals! LOL HELP!!! I need a plan of action or some guidance on what to follow??? Any suggestions???
Thanks Carol! Too she the tape I use the shiny/glossy cello tape. I put long strips of it onto a piece of laminating pouch I have, but you can use anything that it will peel back off of. Then I use vintage photo alcohol ink and wipe/blot/dab it on with a makeup sponge and paper towel. A little goes a long way, and it dries quick so you have to be ready to move quickly. A small sprayer of rubbing alcohol can loosen things. Bit if you need. It's fun to have a play at!
