    Mike,
    I have a technique that is similar to yours. Instead of sending the kite to one, you send it to noon. As you reach the apex of the jump, you tick the kite back to one and then as you described, you slowly move the kite forward as you near the landing. Works every time. Thank you for this video, excellent as always!

    This is a great technique and the only technique we had back in the early 2000's when kites didn't turn fast enough to heli loop. I still revert back to this when the wind is really strong and the thought of heli looping scares me

    I retired from kiting at 70 when Covid hit 75 now… this sure would’ve helped a lot. Had a good 14 year run really miss it though had to move inland to take care of family. Love your videos.

    Great video as always. Thanks Mike. I've been doing this for a while now, but I do it slightly different. I keep the kite at 1 (where coming from), but after I reach the apex of the jump I push the bar out (this is the only difference). That brings the kite to the edge of the window, still at 1. When I'm a couple of meters from landing I send it somewhat hard to the original travel direction. Because it was at the edge of the window it goes right over my head giving me a significant vertical lift that translates in buttery landing while keeping speed and direction. I don't land toeside, that hasn't happen to me yet. Cheers,

    I feel what the kite wants, whether that be 3-4 heli loops, powered loops or even just this.
    This is definitely the first thing everyone should start with.
    I will quite often land this way in 40kts+ as it works as a bit of a parachute to slow you down also.

    Thx Mike, great advice- have been trying to figure out how to get some float for softer landing from bigger jumps, especially from smaller kites- which feel like they want to drop me and feel too fast to try a safe heliloop. Last time I tried it turned into a kite loop and I got yarded.
    What is your advice when you try to park it at 1 and it ends up overflying up wind too much- what is the best recovery from that?

    Great video! What is your kite size and wind speed here? Will this work at lower heights ?

    • @gethighwithmike
      @gethighwithmike  20 часов назад

      This technique works at all heights! I was on a 9m Pace Pro and I think it was gusting about 30 knots

  • @Zarrell
    @Zarrell День назад

    I’ve done this by mistake quite a few times, prepared for hard landing but kite caught me soft last second at the edge of the window 😂 also done a heliloop by mistake once, one and only time I’ve done one, never tried it deliberately, just sort of ”oh shit” split second save 😆

    What about sheeting out and then back in? Doesn't that also help the kite shoot upwind?

    Hey Mike, that's not exactly about the topic of this video, but I have done a few heli loops now. I jump most of the time driving to the left but steer the kite also to the left in the air so I can do a heli loop over my back hand. I noticed this worked best for me. Do you think this is good for my first heli loops or should I use a different technique? Thank you in advance, I love your videos.

    • @gethighwithmike
      @gethighwithmike  15 часов назад

      That's a great way to do heli loops, and the method I use these days to teach people their first heli loops.
      It helps the rider get downwind of the kite, making sure that the heli is above their head, and the momentum you get from flying downwind results in a very effective heli with soft landing if you do it right.
      We call that a 'send' these days. I made a video about it. Search Sent Jump on my channel and you should find it :)

    @2:12 why do you land right foot forward? Wouldn’t it be left foot forward to ride away? I guess that’s the part of the video where you only demonstrate kite control and timing.
    [edit] I should have watched the video completely first. Still leaving comment up so you understand what went on in my confused little head. LOL

    This was absolutely brilliant Mike, thank you so much. Just one question. I'm still on XR7's (I can't afford those fancy allula kites). Would you modify/adjust anything about this technique for them, because I feel the XR7's are very veeery slow to move and many times they simply don't catch me because I can't get the kite ahead of me on time. Also, does this work for jumps in the 7-9m range or do they need to be higher? I'd appreciate it if you commented on this (and you could pass the word to Core designers to come out with a non-allula Pace Pro for which I don't have to sell my kidneys to buy them) :)

    • @gethighwithmike
      @gethighwithmike  День назад +2

      Thanks for the great feedback!
      Interesting observation: the more tension you have on the front lines, the faster the kite responds to steering. If you get the timing right and pendulum well, the kite will respond well to your steering in the landing :)
      Btw I still love the XR7 🔥

    Great video as usual. Just a little hint for the next videos: can you pause or lower the volume of the background music while you explain things? It’s quite annoying and distracting in those sections of video where you sit in front of the microphone and explain things.

    I cant heli loop. Depending on the height of my jump, I don't think ive ever been higher than 10m but I'll work the kite left and right, if visualizing the clock as such I'll do like 11, 12,1 and back to 11 a few times, like a bit of a wiggle as I've had the kite kinda overshoot me lol. , Then before I come to land same thing sweep it back to the direction I'm heading with some side pull but still lift, nice soft landings.
