I recently bought a 2016 Edge Sport, and I love it. Tons of power, great ride, quiet cabin, surprisingly large cargo area with the rear seats down, and a blast to drive in sport mode, with paddle shifters. This is a powerful yet quiet engine with a lot of zip. It's a great looking vehicle from every angle, and it is refined beyond what you'd expect from Ford.
Great review. I work at the plant in Canada where the Edge is manufactured. Thank you for your in depth review. I own the Titanium version of the Edge and Sync 3 has now replaced the old version and it is a massive improvement. We are constantly improving on build quality and for 2017 their have been some small changes to the interior and chassis of the vehicle. Thanks again for your positive review.
I traveled 12500 km in just 1 month. We had a comfortable journey with a family of 5, 6 suitcases and a 30 liter car refrigerator, even though the temperature was 40 degrees and the roads were very mountainous and very bumpy. edge twin turbo. This is the first time I drive such a durable and solid car, thank you.
Pls how can I turn my tailgate lights on my sel ford edge 2017 to light it on like sport bcs my is not lighting on in d night , I need it to be like titanium model
Sometimes I get tired by the duration of your reviews but on the other hand I know that you'll cover all about everything... and I trust your judgment Tomas.
+YC JONI As we would like to work as professional as possible I think that is an important aspect and I really appreciate it that you recognize this as well. Thanks for your support :)
Thomas, I have really enjoyed your reviews of the Giulia, Mustang and the Edge, especially your attention to detail and your fairness. It is quite a contrast to so many reviewers ( often British for some reason ) who have preconceived ideas about the status of a marque and give a car a superficial, often dismissive, assessment. Danke.
In the U.S I have the Edge Titanium that has the 4 cylinder 2.0 with twin turbo with 245hp and 285 torque. It’s pretty quick. Quicker than most SUV’s in its class.
A very good review and equally good product from Ford... This is a serious alternative to the over saturation of the Korean brands were're fed these days. If I could make a negative comment about the Ford products of late is, despite the competent styling and engines, they seem to lack focus on interior design. It is about time they refresh their interior design team, as it is part of the attraction to any brand- how it looks and feel inside.
Another great review from you all. My mother just picked up a Titanium with the red, which Ford calls Ruby Red over here and it looks great. Been impressed with Ford's color choices as of late. Their blues are very attractive.
I would like to see offroad capability of that 4x4 inteligent system. Maybe a test against Toyota Prado. Off roar test means driving through mud, snow*, holes, up on hill etc.
Good detailed review as usual Thomas, the car looks nice and fresh, the back design reminds of the 1st generation ST model, i personally feel the interior could have been nicer in design. but frankly, it is livable.
Finally Edge in Europe, can't wait for Explorer. Very good review, great car overall, just too expensive. Price gap between Kuga (Escape) and Edge is just toooooo big. Groundless...
+Lech G. Unfortunately Explorer won't be coming to anywhere outside of the USA, as it doesn't fit in with Ford's floorpan plans. It's a serious bummer, as probably like yourself, I'd buy an Explorer in a heartbeat!. Hey ho..... :(
The outside looks ok to me, I like it in blue with the titanium grill. The tail lights seem to come off of a Subaru though, I'm not so sure about those.. The interior lets it down, though. Especially the centre panel and the multimedia system/gps. It's pricey though, in the Netherlands it starts at 56.000. It may be a bit bigger than for example the Tiguan (at least until the Tiguan XL gets here), but you pay a lot for that. And then there's no petrol option over here either. I have a feeling people are not going to line up to buy this one over here, unless a lot of people really value that extra bit of space.
Drove one in the States and liked it. Felt small over there but here you will get a bit more of a feeling of presence for your money. Really like that Blue colour. Same issue as many though...it's just too expensive in the UK/Europe. An Evoque/Discovery will hold it's value much better.
I think if the US model was available in Europe, with the US price and only with the changes that must be made because of standards differences, it would have destroyed all the SUV's in this category available in Europe, even Japanese, and Korean, not just Europe Made SUV's. I mean it's like double the price.
please do more measurements for sound: at 50 but also 120kph (and put them in perspective with competition). 'few dB' difference makes huge difference: every 3db audio pressure doubles. I don't see how the non-permanent AWD would help with the rear passenger tunnel, there's still a shaft (and exhaust) going there... It's just less prominent than a sedan because its interior sits higher.
It's crazy the difference between US and EU models! Sport in the US is a twin turbo v6 315hp 350 ft-lb torque monster. Sport in EU is a 210hp diesel. What's the torque of that model?
Hi i brought this car after your indepth review of the sport just won't to say thank you John love your RUclips videos and happy new year to you Toby from London.
Man you gotta try one of the petrol V6, 2.7 liter biturbo powered Edge Sport here in Canada. That 315HP engine turns this car into something really awesome.
Interesting review. I really like the colour car especially with the black front grill. I think here in the UK it will sell well. Thanks again Thomas I really love your reviews.
Thanks Thomas, I always trust your reviews because I believe you do them from a genuine passion instead of the need to have followers and ratings. Very insightful - though I wonder if South Africa will have the Ford Edge given the scandal of burning Ford Kugas.
Thomas: I have driven all three versions of the new Edge and agree with your assessment of the cargo area cover. Those similar designs have been available since the vehicle debuted in the States in 2007. I also like your review because it highlights the differences in what you get versus us. One thing we don't get versus Europe and other markets is the diesel. I sometimes wish we had the option on the SE, SEL, and Titanum. The diesel in the Sport would be better. I have driven the EcoBoost 4 cylinder and came away unimpressed (not enough get up and go), the 3.5L V6 (They took 5 HP versus the 2011-2014 and it shows), and the 2.7L TT V6 (My favorite). However, I am surprised that you don't get the 2.7L EcoBoost that we get here for the sport and the Lincoln MKX. Speaking of the MKX, do you get that vehicle in Germany?
I like the car. Drove a BMW 3 wagon with a diesel (in Berlin and Poland) in Sept. Thought the engine was fine; am sure it is a great option for this vehicle. I drove 160 km/h and had cars blow by me. Personally (I live in Tennessee) would look at the 2.7 turbo here. Not sure this is the SUV of my next purchase though. Thanks for the review.
White interior actually does not look cheap. Soft high quality materials everywhere. Sound system was never good in Ford Edge, despite its sold as premium audio. New Bang&Olufsen system in the newest Edge is also really bad, despite 1600W power on paper and many speakers.
Immortan Joe they do come in right side steering I'm not sure when they will reach your country..the first ones are in Germany. as the euro edge gain popularity Ford will sell more right side steering versions....I have personally drove the euro edge...the name is different also starts with a V.. can't remember the name...the interior is slightly upscaled also
Very interesting SUV Thomas, but in my opinion Tiguan even if it's smaller, has an off road package with high ground clearance and it is less expensive than Ford. For me, also I want to see how looks like and how practically is, the new SUV Skoda Kodiaq and how good it is in the off road conditions .
Thomas what do you think about an electric car? I have to make a confess that I seriosly consider by one when i finish lease my audi in 2019. There is something extraordinary in these cars plus zero emissions, plus many things standard (tesla keyless entry etc.) Am Am I alone in this? :)
Another great detailed review. Autogefuhl is by far the best car reviewers on the internet! BUT on this review you missed the voice activation capability of the sync 2. Whilst anyone that has used Sync 2 will agree it is slow, the voice activation capability is unbelievable comprehensive and good. So much so that most functions you would do whilst driving can be done by voice which is much safer and means the lag of the screen is irrelevant. Please ensure you remain balanced and detailed to remain as the best car reviewer. Another aspect that needs / must be added to car reviews is the family perspective. This car is clearly going to be purchased by people that need the space for families. The test should include practical family aspects, carrying children, loading the car, parking in shopping car parks and load, etc. Cars need to be tested for there intended purpose and normal expected use and not the things they will never be used for such as off road driving (99% of SUV wont see long grass!) or going from 30 to 100! Please replace this nice but useless information with real world practical, relevant aspects.
In Hungary, you only have Titanium and Sport. I would prefer the black grille of the sport, but I would take the Titanium, because of the smaller alloys. Of course nobody has enough money to buy this car here except for politicians, but that's another discussion for another day.
why were you not using voice commands to operate the sync system e.g navigation. No need to touch the screen, even to select cabin temperature. Your review did not really do the car justice.
how come it is quiet when i can hear the road and wind noise very apparent in the video? also other reviewers comment that there are a lot of interior rattles, can you comment on that? thx
I always use to like Thomas reviews, cause you always get to the details! At this review, there is a lot of gaps in the interior assembly, visible on this video and we can see bad finishes at the back plastics of the dashboard! I think is a bad thing for a car of this price!
Mir gefällt der Wagen an sich sehr gut. Allerdings wirkt das Cockpit für den Preis, der aufgerufen wird, doch etwas billig. Insbesondere das Multimediasystem und die Bedienleiste wirken nicht wirklich integriert.
The rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain ... The rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain ... The rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain ... repeat please
I think Ford has lost the plot when it comes to the pricing of this vehicle. Apart from the sound insulation, it really doesn't seem to offer anything to justify the price tag. The design, build quality, infotainment systems, all look like they belong on a car from 10 years ago. Ford should know their place, and just stick to cheap cars, that undercut the rivals. A product from Kia or Hyundai look like a considerably better purchase at this price point.
+Povilas Svedas I think maybe you're being a bit hard on Ford. The dash cluster is all new LCD, and Sync2 is being replaced shortly with Sync3. Take a look at South Korean exports like Kia or Hyundai - which are in exactly the same ball park price wise, but a whole let less in terms of build quality and materials - check out the volume of hard plastics in a Tucson or Santa Fe. Just my tuppence worth!.
Povilas Svedas Hi, have you driven either the Edge or Hyundai and Kia equivalent (Santa fe or Sorrento). I have a new ish Santa fe and whilst great, price wise is is not far off the Edge and i have driven the Edge. It is quieter, better quality materials, much better infotainment, handles better. Go drive one and you will see. You cant tell a car until you drive it.
Emission-free transportation technologies have been available for mass production for over 25 years, but without the needed infrastructure. Cars - affordable for the general public - with engines of about 1 litre fuel consumption, or cars with real water-using engines have been ready for production for over 2 decades now. These high-tech prototypes were successfully tested in countries like Canada, USA, Australia, Norway, England, Sweden, Finland, Belgium, Holland, Denmark, Germany, Poland, France, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Austria, Italy, Israel, China, India, South Korea and Japan. We should already be manufacturing 35-40 million emission-free vehicles annually, and H2O engine systems should have been producing energy instead of our fossil-based and nuclear power plants. Entire technological documentations of such technologies have vanished in the EU`s Institute for Innovation and Technology, and, according to the legislation in order, it is right to be so. The expense involved in the production of such technologies is half of that of the traditional engines, they weigh about 70% less, and they can provide a huge torque. Their working range can be several thousand miles, cars could weigh 200 kg less, and their price could be 3-4000 Euros less. Segments of nearly the entire car industry secretly have the prototypes and successful tests. At the present moment we are poisoning our environment just out of mere arrogance and greed. We live in a cheap and indecent world. I firmly claim that we simply shouldn`t lie to 7 billion people, and this is only the tip of the iceberg. This information is entirely true and I hold myself accountable for its validity. Sincerely, Istvan Gazso, inventor
As always a great review. The car looks great from the outside. The black grille gives it presence in a domineering way that is quite refreshing. A deeper midnight blue would be a colour that I would choose. However white seems to be the new silver over many new colours to choose from. Then the grille would have to be chrome or a colour coded to match. The interior is a typical lost interest in the project ford interior design team. Have ford never looked at the SKODAS???? Even Kia!!!!. Come on Ford!!!! Do the homework and get SAVVY. Skoda makes you look weak. Sorry.
The front reminds me of Hyundai's Santa Fey & the back, the Mitsubishi Outlander. Seems like Ford copied other cars for bits and pieces for this cars exterior..but not bad over all
why they don't make soft fake leather? good quality natural leather is soft with nice soft smooth touch feel, fake leather looks and feels like rough plastic, for example I've seen BMW 3 with natural and fake leather and natural leather feels much better
+Neo Hideo It might feel better but we never recommend this, even off-side of planet saving and ethical aspects, you sweat much more and stick to the seat in summer and in winter you are actually cold.
I've test drove the X5. It's a very nice vehicle but after having an Infinity F35 and knowing that the BMW X5 cost much more for repairs Ford stance a chance to do well with this vehicle. When people buy cars they need to take into consideration repair cost. I do after my last two vehicle's
Back talights are styled after Ford Fusion with Dodge-like light strip in between. Shape of boot may be styled after Lexus RX, but it is more evident in recent Edge
My opinion is that the exterior design (and I feel this way with all Ford cars) is way too toylike and childish. It looks very plastic-y and shiny and cheap, especially for brand that thinks of itself as premium.
+Łukasz M Here in Europe, Ford promotes itself as a modern, upperclass brand. Also, this one starts at about 55000eu in the Netherlands. I could buy an Audi A7 for the same price.
+Po1son Ford is not, nor has it ever been, a premium brand. The Edge sells for around $28,000 in the US, which is competitive with mainstream crossover vehicles like the Hyundai Santa Fe or Nissan Murano. Except for maybe the Ford GT, Ford does not make a single vehicle that competes with premium cars.
I recently bought a 2016 Edge Sport, and I love it. Tons of power, great ride, quiet cabin, surprisingly large cargo area with the rear seats down, and a blast to drive in sport mode, with paddle shifters. Thomas in US the Sport comes with a 2.7 v6 turbo and 315 hp. 0-60 less than 6 seconds. very impressive

An Explorer with a Diesel engine under 50k€ would be a no brainer IMHO....
@@RGV250FORSALE It's coming to Europe in months :) Sadly both Edge and Explorer were ruined by facelifts

Excellent review. Glad to see Ford is upgrading to SYNC3.
+gbriank1 thank you buddy

Thank you for debuting this car. Something people in America forget is the amount of content that came from Ford of Europe.

Very god review guys, keep up with the good work.We are wainting the Sync 3 sistem, many thanks !!!

I think this is the best SUV design👍 I like the car a lot. Good job USA 🇺🇸. Good review. Are you going to review Ford Explorer 2017?
+Ante Zoric thanks m8! Explorer aint avail here :/
In america we also get the 2.7 twinturbo with 325 HP I'm not sure if that one replaces the 3.5 tt from the previous gen Edge but i think it does!
How are your side mirrors electric(Power Fold)? I can't find that option in the ford website, is that new for the 2017?
Great Review Thomas. From outside a nice SUV, but I don't like the Ford Cockpit Design in general. Cheers DrDuu
Hi Thomas, thanks for the review. Where was the large Ford shop you were in at the beginning of the video? Was it Köln?
no shop, munich airport m8 :)
I love the design, too.
The 2015 and 2016 Edge Sport in the US has a 2.7L twin turbo. It's silly they don't have that engine for the European version.
J Koe we got it now. At least here in switzerland
Nice review :-) How good is the sound system? It´s a pity the interior looks so cheap... because from the exterior it looks great!

hey Thomas can you make a video of the sync 3 of Ford ? very good review as always :-)
+Sawers Iconia sure as soon as it is available!
Front reminds me of new Tucson. Looks great
Oh I love this car. is that availabe for right steering wheel for another country like Indonesia & UK?
How much the price?
Immortan Joe they do come in right side steering I'm not sure when they will reach your country..the first ones are in Germany. as the euro edge gain popularity Ford will sell more right side steering versions....I have personally drove the euro edge...the name is different also starts with a V.. can't remember the name...the interior is slightly upscaled also
Did you guys attend the showing and presentation of the Giulia QV that was recently? :)

Very interesting SUV Thomas, but in my opinion Tiguan even if it's smaller, has an off road package with high ground clearance and it is less expensive than Ford. If you have a loading station at work or at home, go electric.
I'm in Australia and the car isn't even out yet, any idea when it comes down under?
good question, probably next year ?

why were you not using voice commands to operate the sync system e.g navigation. No need to touch the screen, even to select cabin temperature.
Your review did not really do the car justice.
how come it is quiet when i can hear the road and wind noise very apparent in the video?

Thank you very much for your indepth review I like watching for vids.
thanks stick with us!
what do you like best the new tiguan or the ford edge
+corals win Tiguan ... feels more refined. Although the Edge is kick-ass in Exterior
A nice masculine car. If I ever sell my f150, this would be good.
Love the colour and styling.interior a big let down for me, touch screen looks poor.love the reviews!!
+Gary Holdsworth thanks Gary - stay tuned !
Man kann eigtl. nicht meckern, aber leider fehlt es dem Edge noch an Feinschliff im Detail.
In Portugal this car price starts at 56.250€ to much expensive for a ford, mercedes Glc starts at 56850€ and is a Merc!
+Paulo Baptista Thanks for this information. It's good to know
That's a Handsome looking car...Stunning in that gold paint colour,l do have a soft spot for Ford car....As always Thomas, your the Main man.

For European friends who wants to live like The Americans -- Everything is Big here in America.
Ford Eco Sport is not big, so...
That's why it's not sold in USA.
This car starts at 56.165 euro trend in my country.
god you can buy a new Lexus gs300h luxe with this....
My heart loves this car but my mind says it's too BIG!
Exactly how I feel right now, and I am about to buy a new car !
Sorry.
+Rob Trust yep thats what I said Rob !
The front reminds me of Hyundai's Santa Fey & the back, the Mitsubishi Outlander. Seems like Ford copied other cars for bits and pieces for this cars exterior..but not bad over all
Great review!!! New subie.
Welcome!!!
Pure enjoyment :)
+Boris Mikhailovski :)
is it just me or does this seem like a blunt copy of Hyundai's Santa Fey with subaru like front lights...in terms of the inferior.
Compare this with new Edge...
the rear also reminds me of the Mitsubishi Outlander
why they don't make soft fake leather? good quality natural leather is soft with nice soft smooth touch feel, fake leather looks and feels like rough plastic, for example I've seen BMW 3 with natural and fake leather and natural leather feels much better
+Neo Hideo It might feel better but we never recommend this, even off-side of planet saving and ethical aspects, you sweat much more and stick to the seat in summer and in winter you are actually cold.
***** I agree, I generally prefer fabric seats
car verry nice.
this seems to be a car ford made with "inspiration" (copy) from other manufacturer's cars
It's mix of Fusion in the rear and Ford Pickup in the front. Don't see other manufacturers there
Nice review but no thanks Ford, I buy a VW Tiguan, BMW X3 or a Volvo XC60 instead...
+WinkelHoof Thank you for appreciating our work:)
Good luck competing with the likes of X5, Ford. Am I the only one who sees Lexus at the back?
I've test drove the X5. It's a very nice vehicle but after having an Infinity F35 and knowing that the BMW X5 cost much more for repairs Ford stance a chance to do well with this vehicle.
When people buy cars they need to take into consideration repair cost. I do after my last two vehicle's
Back talights are styled after Ford Fusion with Dodge-like light strip in between. Shape of boot may be styled after Lexus RX, but it is more evident in recent Edge
friggin hell... clean your ears dude.. @9:33
He's so German...i love it
He has Polish roots xd
Electric Spice...... If only it plugged in.
My opinion is that the exterior design (and I feel this way with all Ford cars) is way too toylike and childish. It looks very plastic-y and shiny and cheap, especially for brand that thinks of itself as premium.
+Po1son Ford being premium? This cost as much as a Golf GTI in the US.
+Po1son Since when did Ford think of itself as premium?
+Łukasz M Here in Europe, Ford promotes itself as a modern, upperclass brand. Also, this one starts at about 55000eu in the Netherlands. I could buy an Audi A7 for the same price.
+Po1son Ford is not, nor has it ever been, a premium brand. The Edge sells for around $28,000 in the US, which is competitive with mainstream crossover vehicles like the Hyundai Santa Fe or Nissan Murano. Except for maybe the Ford GT, Ford does not make a single vehicle that competes with premium cars.
+Po1son If they do, and if you believe them, then you're a sucker. They sell developing market vehicles like the Ecosport. How is that premium?
Thomas is too skiny. We want Holgar!
+Zadrigo Actually Holger will be soon in another review.
