Respect has to be earned. Today's coppers think that it is their entitlement just for wearing the uniform.
I am a retired police officer. I joined in 1976. I am appalled by the actions of the officer responsible for driving in to this calf and I am calling for him to be sacked.
Who is the police Inspector in the Control Room overseeing and directing actions on the ground?

It's the calibre of people they are letting into the police service these days. No wonder crime levels are so high.
Paramedics and Firefighters face danger and death. They act more professional. I am tired of the many excuses too many (bad) police give.

The difference is, paramedics and firefighters want to save lives and be heroes at worst, police want to be heroes and want power at worst. Those who want power are usually the least fit for it.
They couldn't even be bothered to get the farmer and instead caused immense distress to the animal. Hope the farmer going to sue the police for this

This is how to deal with car thieves and terrorists not a cow that’s broken out off its field and disoriented and distressed and behaving erratically because it’s stressed. Obviously the police training videos for wildlife were Jurassic park. 🤦♂️ there just a complete embarrassment.

Just watched the footage properly, the calf isn’t huge and the man he was chasing went ballistic himself that the police ran it over so violently. It looks like it was impulse on the part of the driver rather than a measured decision, he may have been cleared to take that action IF NECCISARY but I’d consider it a VERY bad call on his part. Then the other officers were forced to side with the decision by default and start crowd control as everyone was clearly agitated. The best thing the force could do right now is to have the driver apologise and take personal responsibility.
The guy was even calling it Bro and not scared of it at all, he was shocked at the police’s actions in not so many words.

Aren't all police cars fitted with cameras? Release the footage we should know what the driver was doing and saying before this incident
the driver was probably frothing at the mouth in anticipation of having a chance at killing something. Thats the picture im getting of the type of person who takes action like this.
It's no incident they deliberately rammed that poor animal no need what so ever for that kind of treatment they should be dismissed immediately without pay disgusting behaviour for the police

I'm both ashamed & appalled at the levels of policing in this country at the moment. People should lose their jobs over this.
The complete lack of common sense or ability to analyse a situation is endemic in police forces across the country.
Even the guy that was being chased by the cow had a go at the cops for how they hit the cow with the car.
If they hadn’t knocked it down and someone had been injured everyone would have been up in arms about the police not doing anything.

The police statement says that for a few hours the cow had been on the loose. So, they had a few hours to contact a vet or farmer to safely and humanely gain control of the poor cow.

Surrey isn't London, Staines has lots of cattle, and horses (on Staines Moor), they have no excuse for this.
Hopefully this story will gain momentum and public outrage will force heads to roll!
I once had a calf follow me that was wondering the street, I loaded it into my pick up and took it to the local SPCA. They found the owner and returned it to him

The poor animal was probably scared and then gets rammed by a police car! Was it too much to call a vet or farmer to calm the animal?? It's more or less saying it's okay to abuse and hurt animals!!

Cows can be extremely dangerous , if we want to police to keep protecting us we need to accept that they can’t always be nice. Interestingly the head of the national farmers union has backed the police actions in this case.

Yes, they are dangerous. But this wasn't a case of the animal actively attacking anyone. First line of call (literally) should have been to contact the farmer, or the local vet with a tranq dart if necessary.

Our cousin's 1.25 tonne Hereford bull used to get on to the M6 on occasion. That brought traffic to a standstill. They also had trucks coming off the road and into the fields, we once had a few tonnes of oranges to get through, frozen OJ all round heh? 😊

I am pleased that the HS has just moved in; it is a pity hat he isn’t jump in on he threatment of Tommy Robinson, illegally arrested pepper sprayed at close range and having to pay thousands to get justice without even an apology. If you think a calf is a danger to anyone you are an idiot. They are not aggressive. It wasn't "chasing" anyone. It was just following someone. They do thar in hope of food. Wave your arms and shout at it and it would run away.
.. it was a 4 month old baby calf (you are obviously a city dweller, who has never visited the countryside, where this type of thing happens every day .. so I don't expect you to have any common sense .. it's not your fault I suppose)
Have done if the collisions had broken the animals leg/s? They would have had to bring in a vet or armed officer, which is what they should have done in the first place. I have helped on a number of occasions with escaped animals, the police used common sense, stopped traffic, then we herded the animals to a safe area.
Just another point, I assume the local tax payers are going to pay for the damage to the car.

It wasn’t injured when it was following the guy in the street , it was calmly just trotting along and not aggressive, they injured it!
