Actually the war was still winnable in 1943 for Germany or at least had a possible positive outcome. Hitlers refusal to effectively shrink the battle lines as well as urging the battle of Kursk which was unnecessary basically sealed it. Remember the soviets suffered major defeat at Kharkiv directly after Stalingrad in 1943.

i feel bad for both sides the russan can get executed if they retreat and it was a very fierce batle for them but also the german side which were forced to fight for most of them and they could freeze to death too
