- This video was shot at the Midland Ave crossing in Elmwood Park, New Jersey
I've been planning another trip out to these crossings, and when i heard this crossing has been upgraded, i came out to film theses 2 crossings.
To make this crossing safer, NJ DOT has installed new traffic lights at this crossing. These traffic lights, when activated will stop traffic from stopping on the tracks.
The crossing itself also got some new LED crossing lights. Check the crossing info section for that.
Crossing Info:
Signal on right: 3 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch LED lights, a WC Hayes gate motor and a Safetran mechanical bell.
Signal on left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch LED lights, a Safetran gate motor and a Safetran mechanical bell.
Enjoy!

Nice! Good thing they kept the mechanical bells.
+Crossing Railfan Cal Thank You!
Yeah i know, NJ Transit keeps mechanical bells at there crossings after upgrades.
+Freedomtowerman Productions I would've added a GS Type 1 e bell next to the mechanical bell to have both ring when the gates lower and the e bell to ring until gates rise just to keep people aware that the signals are on, and add gateless masts with Safetran Type 1 e bells because two gated masts just look too empty to me
What did the old signals have?
+freebrickproductions Same as these, nothing has changed to crossing signals, execpt the crossing got LED lights.
Does anyone know when the Westmont Station on the Bergen line will open?
+glen rock railfan I asked a NJ Trasnit worker that, he said there is no offical date to when that will be open.
Wait. Why does the train at 3:30 have Metro-North cars, but an NJ Transit locomotive? Shouldn’t they match?
Not necessary, NJ Transit and Metro North share equipment when needed.
@@FreedomtowerStudios I see your point, but how will people know if it’s Metro-North or NJ Transit? Just wondering.
@@atheman90 All NJ Transit trains will show up on a schedule, (Suffern and East). This line ends at Suffern NY, but because NJ Transit serves Port Jervis and all Metro North stops (Suffern to Port Jervis) they also share equipment. Its really complicated
@@FreedomtowerStudios good to know.
at 2:20 and 2:25 why gate lift up half and lift down with other train come?
The vehicles that passed were too small to keep the gates consistently down
Nice video Vinny.
+Liberty Railfan Productions Thank You Adam!
Nice video!!
+Norfolk Southern ES44AC Thank You my friend!
(2:05) What was that???????
Most likely it was an MOW vehicle.
Good job! I wish I had the time to go there.
Come here again plz.
+Amtrak productions I will when the traffic lights (the ones that are bagged) get activated. Im guessing sometime early next year.
+Freedomtowerman Productions why not yet? This was filmed in November or October
+Freedomtowerman Productions September! It is crazy! Wouldn't it be done now
Amtrak productions I just went by this crossing on Friday, December 20th when i was on my way into the city, the lights are still covered up. My guess is they will have the lights working again in January, but knowing how slow Elmwood Park is with installing lights, its anyone's guess.
+Freedomtowerman Productions when ashland got traffic lights( see ep 45) it took 2 weeks to set up
I upload new train vid
amazing they need all this upgrading to keep people from driving against the signals.
Yep, this is the most dangerous railroad crossing in NJ
