    Oversimplification but...
    Si→Past
    Se→Present
    Ni→Future
    Ne→Alternate Realities

    • @TheNicMMc

      I think I get how they can work together. With Se in the present, you can only go forward with Ni to see what will happen next. With Ne you can look at multiple moments of your pervious experiences with Si function and try to guess what can happen base on prior experience.

      @@TheNicMMc I often relive the past and just imagine different ways things could have gone down. But maybe that's more with me being an INFP with higher Si than ENxPs.

    So with Ni/Se you’re dependent on the progression of a timeline and seeing how all the points line up, but with Ne/Si it’s like you’re independent of all points in a timeline and because of that you can pick which points of time you’ll let influence you more than others. That is why the past for the Ne/Si user is like a bag of marbles - each marble with it’s own unique qualities - that they carry around.
    I say as an INFP that relates to me pretty well, I can’t really remember much unless I’m super interested in remembering something awesome/funny, or I remember because the event impacted me on such an emotional level that it’s hard to forget. Then I can recall that information with such vividness like it had happened to me yesterday even though it could’ve been 10 years ago when it happened. But I only have that ability to remember vividly like that if I choose to remember it and I write it down or consistently remind myself over a period of time, otherwise I’ll remember very little. But even then it’s like “Hey a spider, I remember I once saw a spider try to kill a cicada (I think that’s how you spell it, those bugs that bury themselves for a couple of years before randomly coming back out to mate) one summer for food, that was the best big fight I had ever seen” (Yes, real life example and yeah, that was the best example of a memory I had. *shrug*)

    Firstly, it's really fun to see you guys realizing something new mid discussion!
    As an NeSi user, I almost feel like I exist outside of time and I don't really feel the effect of time on me; sunrise doesn't necessarily inspire me to wake up, sunset doesn't really inspire me to stop work and settle in for the evening, my mind is happy to keep reading and exploring until 5am - the progression of time feels very incidental to me, almost irrelevant (except as a symbol or a context in which the world and others exist). If I go to sleep musing over a thought, I may wake up still thinking through it without feeling like there was a break in continuity - last night doesn't feel distinct from this morning, because I'm still inhabiting the same mental space; though sleep may have shuffled some mental or emotional puzzle pieces for me.
    I've actually been contemplating this very thing lately; now that it's holiday and my days aren't constrained by schedules, the days blur - so I wake up and my first verbalized thought may be "yeah that's a great idea, I think I'll do that." So I don't go through a kind of "Oh look, it's morning, I am awake, I need the bathroom, I wonder what I'll have for breakfast today?" Which is not to say this is how others think in the morning, I honestly don't know I can only speculate.
    As I write this it's like 5:30pm, I woke up a like 1pm because I slept at 4:30am, I've only had coffee so far and I spent all day finishing an anime I started last night. What do I do now?? Make breakfast?? (I kinda wanted pancakes) Or should I just have dinner, it's pretty dark outside? I planned to do some drawing today, so maybe I'll hold of until I've done that?? CHOOSE YOUR ADVENTURE lol.
    So yeah. Time is very interesting.

      As an Se-Ni user, I experience time totally different. Instead of just ignoring time, I go along with time. I have Si critic and it makes me do things at the time of day I’ve always done them. Like I eat when I wake up, at about noon, and in the evening. I remember when I was younger my mom’s work schedule changed and dinner became later, which took me awhile to get used to.

    I, as an INFJ, totally relate to the way Alex sees time. Never thought about it, very interesting!
    A thing I've noticed is that both of you (because of the Fi function maybe) tend to associate the general function utilization to your's function utilization. I've also seen the way Alex's point of view in a Judger way, while Callypso's was like in a Perceiver way. Maybe, as you said in the very end, if one's Si or Se function is dominant or auxiliary, this Jugder-Perceiver thing must change. I think the distant moments in time on the NiSe timeline are less important in Se dominant users, like, they can collect data quickly, but see less patterns on long term. Also, the Si fragments on NeSi users are more abudant in Si dominant users, but they tend to extract less (N) meaning of each individual one.

    Literally, before you began, I paused this video and said, “how do I view time?” - and I thought “I view each day as a whole, like a pie. As each hour paces, it’s like a piece of the pie was eaten. Everyday, independently, is a count down. And still I feel very aware of present time and how it relates to future time. If someone asks me the time, I recall the last moment I had a confirmation of time and then through impressions have a precise estimation of the minutes/hours that have past, and it’s generally spot-on” . . . . Started the video, and bam! Ni/Se Axis in your face. I’m pretty jealous of the Ne’s out there. What is going on in your head?! Excellent commentary, you two. Thanks for this!! (P.S. I know you do ‘MBTI types as desserts’, to appeal to the masses, but these types of topics truly speak to the people!!🤗) -ENTJ

    8:01 - 8:47 *pauses video* Woah. I gotta draw that, it would be like a really cool Wild West picture. Or maybe I’ll draw it as the train evolving through time from its very earliest design to its modern day design. And then the cowboy that’s on the train is capturing the memories that the train has of all its passengers. Maybe the cowboy is a time traveler. This is gonna be an awesome short story.

    Interesting thought about the movie and knowing what will happen. I actually will still will it to change. There are movies I’ve seen like 10 times and I still wish it will change and I’ll spend the whole movie still hoping for that even though I know it’s fruitless. I also have a deep love for movies and books that have a broken/random timeline so I can put the pieces together and guess what might have happened. (I’m writing a book like that actually).
    These points are really interesting because I definitely relate to the lasso effect and I often wonder why I have saved certain memories so crisply and others are just gone. Patterns overall? I only find those if I sit and really think about it, but if I do that again on a different day I will find different meaning.
    Great video!

  • @anamaxa
    @anamaxa 6 лет назад +16

    Perhaps it like how different history books are structured. You have a book that is structured chronologically or structured into concepts; like in subject by subject.
    For instance, you can go chronologically thru the events of the French Revolution or you can deal with by subject of what happened from one subject to the next.
    An example of subject by subject could dealt with in various ways. Inspiration from the American Revolution; The conditions within France just before the Revolution; the attitudes of the aristocracy; ect, ect.
    Funny thing with me that even though I'm NE-SI, I prefer chronological history books. Probably because I can construct the concepts myself really easily. Having someone do it for me feels misleading somehow. Also chronologically is a convenient way to structure and remember it. But I think that's only applies in a history class, or when I'm studying history for the purpose of learning history.

    • @rohanrahinwal9706
      @rohanrahinwal9706 6 лет назад +5

      I'm an INFP and I prefer chronological stuff too, I guess it gives me more freedom to play around with how I can imagine them to have played out? Also, yeah, when it is like a story I can see it through to the end, but miss one part of the story, and I'm stuck, I forget one tiny detail somewhere, and I cannot proceed with the answer. SO that's a downside

  • @eeeecccc

    I explain all this is my class every term, but I have the advantage of a chalkboard. In my 20 years of teaching MBTI there are far less Sensing types who enjoy the theory (percentage wise), so as an ENFP, I "act it" out, and we role play (so they can see it), which helps the S types. Merry Christmas!

      Really enjoyed this video and wow can I relate to the Ni dom perspective of how time flows. My son is an Ne dom and I can see how he approaches each moment in a very freestyle way- remixing and improvising as he goes along, but I always feel myself as living at one moment along a timeline. I never feel lost about where I am in time or how the future relates to the past. Very cool concepts to think about.

    • @tigress1girl

      What do you mean stimulating Se moment? How would an Se moment would differ from an Si moment? Could you give specific example?

  • @haleberry5939
    @haleberry5939 5 лет назад +3

    I'm INFJ and for me I agree that for NiSe context is everything! So true but I think I am not quite in Se linear time- more like 3 seconds ahead (or one moment) but I am still using linear time and still the sum of all my experiences in every moment.
    Context is everything! one Si sentence means nothing. Its like an individual Ti thought in a Te dominated world...neither hold much meaning out of context and are like the farts of the universe (hot air and noise)...lol

    Yeah, there's no doubt that you guys are right around the ballpark of the Ni/Se axis and Ne/Si.
    Just as a quick note, it's very hard to go too deep into the definitions of things without talking about the animals (Objective Personality defined as Play, Blast, Sleep and Consume) and Sexualities of each cognitive function.
    I drew out an entire visual model of the functions, the animals and how it all looks like. Still need to figure out what the sexualities look like though.
    But yeah great work in exploring the experience between 2D perception (S) and 3D perception (N)

      blakeje25 Same! Sometimes the spoiler or knowing how it ends is what gets me to watch/read the thing in the first place; I know the what but I want to know the why and the how - if the premise and the conclusion are both intriguing enough. Sometimes the premise is intriguing but the conclusions sounds disappointing, which makes me not want to read/watch at all (usually like, oh it ends sad - I don't wanna watch something sad so I'll pass.) And sometimes the premise doesn't sound so special, but the conclusion is interesting enough that I'll take the story on. So I like stories that don't rely on me being unaware of how it ends; the process must give meaning to the conclusion. - Also INTP

    • @cbc147
      @cbc147 5 лет назад +2

      That's interesting, I'm also an INTP, but I really don't like spoilers. I think knowing what's gonna happen takes away from the experience of trying to figure out things as it goes and getting, maybe, surprised by the events, though I guess I would still enjoy the individual pieces of it (if they are interesting enough). I guess it just takes away all the Ne possibilities and theories I'd be making in the process so it gets kinda boring.

    This was a more confusing topic than usual. But your movie discussion at the end made me think of how my husband can sit there and predict how the movie plot is going to go, and it drives me crazy how often he's right. I keep hoping he will be wrong. I think my thing is that I have high Se, so I can't think further than what I can see happening right now. I have almost no future predictions for anything, movies or books. Plus, if enough time goes by, I will forget most of the plot details. I will remember the basic framework, especially with something I've watched or read more than, say, ten times. It's so interesting the differences between people.

    Wow, I feel like this is a significant groundbreaking insight in the world of Type. Great work!! I wish to understand this better and have a couple of questions: (1) What are your major influences and references used in formulating your theory of this axes, (2) Are you able to provide some evocative descriptions (i.e. soliloquy, first-person poetry, etc.) about how the Ni-Se percieves themselves moving through time to better illustrate the feeling for people who don't have this axes, and (3) I'm unclear about what you mean by Ni-Se requiring many different instances of Se to create the context for Ni. My previous understanding was the because Ni brings with it a unified vision, it is able to fit any any instance of Se into that picture.

    I'm an INFJ and I relate to your definition of the Ne Si perception of time. I've always felt the linear perception of it is an illusion, and we are all just experiences suspended in space/time with no beginning or end point, fragmented and overlapping. Even when I think back to my childhood, I don't feel like I'm looking down a chain I feel like I'm feeling through time into another world that still exists somewhere, exactly as I left it. I'm definitely an INFJ before anyone questions.

    Nice topic for this episode! i really have deep curiosity about time, how it works for different person. Specially when it’s connected with dreams.
    It feels like the concept of time in dreams is really vanished on how we perceive it and also how we experienced it. Anyway i really relate with calypso on catching specific memories and also with the i can be someone else if i will just put my mind through it. The example of that for me is like i keep thinking other options of career even though i have a nice solid start with my current state. Maybe because of (Ne).
    And i know this is not related but the first thing i notice on the video is the nice hair of alex that is longer now and it really fits to her, specially the wavy volume on the end.

    I've read this particular book in the past titled "Perceival Everett" and I used it for my book report. I've noticed that the events there were so fragmented that sometimes I was lost on what to think of anymore. It was really hard for me to understand 'cause because of my Ni-Se axis I tend to look for a unifying meaning like what it implies as a whole but the book reeks of too much Ne-Si. It looks so random to me unlike when I was reading Haruki Murakami's books. One of my fave HM's works is 1Q84, tho the way the plot progresses is not linear, I could clearly see how every plot points are connected to each other. On the other hand, Perceival Everett seems to me like a bunch of past, random data points that I'm not sure if were connected to each other. It was an interesting book but up until now I'm still not sure if my subjective impression and understanding of it is what the author wants to imply.

I have week,day and year in the closed circle but day is vertical and others in horizontal circle, whole history that dont include just my life is line. Also year and week goes counterclockwise. My position unto the circle differ according what i´m thinking about(like what happened last summer or that i have to visit a doctor next week) and what time and day is. And when I thinking about thing within days i see them in circle for week, the circles are separate but fit together, the small ones into larger ones. It would be very interesting for you two to comment on Black Mirror episodes because I feel most of them are adept to the Si-Ne perceiving in the sense that their content is unusual based on a Si common understanding that is taken to this unusual Ne perspective(s). For example I am pretty sure I am an INTJ (especially after watching your channel) and I often think that they don't offer any solution to this unusual circumstance(s) and there is no long term projection of it.
