It's not visible in the video, but luckily there is an air gap between the axle pad and the axle shaft! Otherwise turning that new pin would've been the safest bet. But good thought!
Growing up there were two ways to lower cars. Cutting front coils and lowering blocks in the rear leaf springs was the “good”way to do it. The cheap way was to heat the springs until they melted. Use the same torch on the rear leafs until they could be bent! It was cheap but effective. The cars would bounce like a bitch afterwards. Cops would pull us over and measure us and give us fixit tickets. I would NOT recommend lowering a car. It causes trouble. When lowering blocks were installed in a Chevy you no longer could get access to the brake adjusting slot.
Hello friends, I am from Argentina and I have a Desoto 51 with the same suspension, I appreciate the video tutorial that is very helpful. One question, did they leave the front suspension original or did they modify it?
This is a good how to video, I am impressed it didnt get more views. change the tags and the title to something easier for people to find so you get more views
Joe ended up not doing it as he likes his it sits now. But he says late 90's ford aerostar minivan front suspension can be put on this car to lower the front!
Good luck! Should be pretty straight forward. Somewhere in these comments I wrote a section of what his plan was with the front that he never did, not sure if it's still here
@@TheCherryGarage oops, sorry. Looks like I miss worded my question. The kit you posted says it works for Chevys (and Plymouths). There is a kit for around $60 online that says it works through the same years on the Chevy. Could I use that kit instead? Not sure if my question is making sense.
@@jesriproductions oh I understand, if it measures the same spring width, it should work. I think it's 1-3/4" width. I can't guarantee it will fit correctly, but it seems like they may share the same rear end
Thanks for the video looking foward to watching the front end being lowered.
“Discovered” reverse threads thanks to you 🙌🏾
The left-handed lug nuts on the left side of the vehicle were a thing on MoPar through (IIRC) the 1972 model year.
I was waiting for you to drill till you struck oil. No such luck. Great job.

Sweet video! And I saw a Homeless In Hollywood shirt!!
Good eye!

We left the front original for the style. The front end can be swapped with Ford aerostar springs to lower it !
@@TheCherryGarage Thank you very much for the reply! excellent work! Greetings from Argentina 🇦🇷
Thank you as well! Goodluck with your DeSoto.
@@TheCherryGarage what year Aerostar springs?
1986-1990, but this is just based on some info we found online. We haven't personally done it, and we sold our aerostar 😅

Thanks! Were behind the times with all that 😅
Good and originally card congratulations ❤😂.
Awesome video!! Did you ever drop the front? Thanks

Did he end up doing the spring swap up front? I cant find a vid on it?
He did not, once the rear was set he liked the height and decided not to
@@TheCherryGarage i can see why, gonna be dropping my 38 Pontiac this month, starting with the rear and possibly the front.. see what happens

Excelente vídeo Saludos desde Durango Durango México ✌
Thank you!! Salutations! 🍒
do you bottom out in the back when you hit a bump? hows the ride now?
We haven't been able to ask Joe much about the ride, but from the looks of the rear bumper, it hasn't scraped! And he says he enjoys driving it!
Great video. Where could I get these for my 1949 Plymouth deluxe sedan? No cutting or fabrication would be nice.

The link I posted is for 28-53 plymouth and dodge as well. Read the rest of the part description

Cool
Nice🔥🔥👊
PLEASE KEEP THIS GREAT CAR "DECENT"! DO NOT LOWER A CLASSIC!
U
Why ruin a nice original car buy lowering it. Leave it alone or sell it.
