aren't those boost level high for no intercooler setup? im thinking of supercharging my car and don't want the piping associated with intercooler but im not sure about intake temp, what's your thoughts about it?
It is a lot of boost without attending to intake temps. But that is why the kit creator includes the 'e-cool' injector within the intake system and after the supercharger, this effectively acts like a chemical/liquid cooler. Sprays E85 into the compressed air before it enters the engine.
Fuel consumption on this car is poor compared to factory. 1. It runs e85. 2. Its running boost and thus an increased demand for fuel. Thus, its using on average near twice the fuel of a factory car.
What made you get rid of this set-up I seen awhile ago that you had sold a supercharger kit ? I was looking to buy a secondhand one but wanted to hear rhe bad reviews on why it may not be a good move
Any problems with the air intake so far? I was thinking about this same kit and that's the best intake set up I've seen so far, most people do a custom box near the passenger headlight (RHD driver side)
No problems. I didn't like the way they ran the intake pipe over the top of the engine, looked odd to me. And being the NA chassis, there isn't much room around the headlight area anyway.
Hi John, I swapped everything from an NB into this car, the bulk took a weekend to swap, then many days here and there to get the fiddly bits finished like wiring the popup lights into the NB wiring loom. I can't really offer any tips that aren't already well documented on forums like miataturbo. It really is a mostly 'bolt in' swap. Thanks for watching!
You're going to want a taller rear diff ratio soon. All the extra torque will mean rowing through the gears more often on a 4.40, so I would start looking at getting a 4.10 or even a 3.90. You might even be able to just get the gears and swap them onto the diff and save some cash that way.
Hi Richard, I completely agree. That's why I have swapped in a 4.1 Torsen that I had spare... I'm happy with the gearing for this power level. The 4.44 was great when the car was naturally aspirated, but with the extra power it made it difficult and less enjoyable.

Great video! I do have a question though, do you use the engine management that Tom supplies with his kits, or do you use something like a MS3? If its the former, what do you use to control VVT? HI, do you have any issue with the IAC drawing air from the crankcase? does it have much affect if it was drawn from open air? I uses the same IAC but it seem to be leaking abit of air even fully closed. I read it is how the IAC is designed. Do you have similar problem? Thnaks
The idle isn't great. i think in their latest kit, they now recommend taking air for the iac from the intake hose , after the MAF. Im not sure how effective it is working versus 'fresh air', as i haven't tried it any other way.
I've always wondered what one of these kits looked like on a RHD car. Sounds great and a neat install! One thing though, is the belt for the SC routed right? Doesn't look like its got much of a wrap around the SC pulley, you might get belt slip. I think the auto tensioner should have the belt the other side of it and be pushing the other way? Just my two pennies... Hows the fuel lines holding up?
Hi Mr Lizard, you are correct with regard to the belt, if you see the video again, you will note I actually added a comment to the shot of the pulley, I have corrected the angle of the tensioner and the belt... MUCH better now! Fuel lines have been fine, however the little injector clips were a bit dodgy and have been replaced with new ones.
The biggest clearance issue i had was between the bracket on the brake booster and the supercharger throttle body. The clutch master wasnt too big of an issue because i run the intake straight down under the SC.
I don't understand your question. I gather you are referring to the issue regarding the camera running out of battery, and thus there is a jump from "install" to "complete". I state this at 6:06
G-day mate...✌️ The same supercharger should be working on a left hand drive as well..! Correct..? As I see no issues with the engine ... the only problem I see is... getting one for my 2001 left hand drive nb in germany 🇩🇪 Because everybody I talk to is doin‘ turbocharged engines...🤔🤔🤔
Yes Colin, I'm running a ME221 built by motorsport electronics. While there are other ways to supercharge a car without an aftermarket ecu, for the best result you definitely want something tune-able.
had to read that twice to decipher the lack of punctuation...... do you have a link to that video? So they built it to 400 hp; what was wrong with it? (aside from the miata bias & jaded view of GM- how about something objective & unbiased?) BTW mid 90's camaros & firebirds are RWD, & the V6's were 3.8's
No problems really, it all bolted straight on and fired right up. The power card pro was already setup for E85 on a vvt motor so i didn't have to adjust it.
+BEAVISHSV awesome, been thinking of doing this on my NA, turbocharging involves far more work it seems. Plus that supercharger whine is a magical sound :)
I'm about to get it tuned properly running a Adaptronic ECU and more boost, then second stage will be E85 and even more boost again. hopefully I'll be satisfied then.
I got the NA mk1 shell with no driveline for basically free, so I sourced a wrecked NB mk2 with VVT and 6spd to swap in for cheap. I wouldn't have done it were the mk1 already working.
BEAVISHSV Here's a thing i'd like to run by you. I've traded in my NC 2.0Sport for an NA 1.8 Merlot and I pick it up today. I can't decide whether or not to keep the NA standard and in great condition, or to Supercharge it. What do you think?
This was the way it was designed by Fast Forward Superchargers, benefits include less heat soak as opposed to an exhaust mounted supercharger, and less intake tubing required.
Hi Andre, I installed some 30cm LED strips up under the dash to shine down on the footwell. they are wired into the overhead interior light so they illuminate when the doors open. it's a great modification, I highly recommend it!
+BEAVISHSV that's exaclty what I was looking for and I also wanted them to light when the door opens. Do you have some pictures or something? I'm new to car modding and that's one of the reasons I got my MX-5 for so anything helps :)
BEAVISHSV thanks, meanwhile I went to my local store and they have universal led strips which have a universal black and white cable which you can attach to something sacrificing something else, so I don't know what I'll be removing yet and still hope there's a better solution.
Well it doesn't gain or do you any good doing this with your check engine light of depending what codes it has and why the check light is on and can possibly throw the ECU into safe or limp mode and take away alot of timing and limits the motor so no damage is done.
Hi Frank, I've not had any issues thus far. Though I've only gone through one tank of fuel (little over 200kms or 150miles). There's 200,000kms on the motor (124,000 miles).
@@m32m1m The car ran fine for some 4yrs like this, but the add-on style fuel card was not that great, a dedicated ECU would be nicer. Eventually i just grew 'bored' with the setup and decided to return the engine to stock, so I spent a single day in the garage and it was all unbolted and back to normal. I sold the SC kit on.
Things are pretty busy, you could route it underneath the intake manifold, or route the main hose on the hot side of the engine (over the exhaust manifold). Perhaps using a hard tube for the feed from the back of the engine to the front would be better.
Hi Francisco, I purchased the kit used from here in Australia so it came with all the parts needed for the install, plus a few extras. You can get the whole kit direct from "fast forward superchargers".
BOTH! This car has the Supercharger, it's great for the street. My other car has a turbo, awesome for the track. The turbo is generally considered the better value option.
This video is some 4 years old now mate, so too old for me be able to re-do any of it slower. In the bottom right hand corner there is a little 'cog' button where you can change playback speed to half if you wish. :-)
An EGR is like taking a deuce, and eating it to get what little protein is there that your body didn't need at the time. Literally what an EGR does. Recycles filth so the filth (which isn't quite filth) doesn't leave the car. Working on a project with a friend (RB e36) and while we're at it, I may or may not have the EGR plugged.
Ah yes I ended up blocking off the EGR fittings and removing the pipe work. It's necessary for emissions and safe to remove provided it doesn't conflict with your local road laws.
5g for this? Boy oh boy. Just go ecotec. No stress on the motor. 200whp and wtq super linear power curves. And it costs less. 4 grand without selling parts and about 3 if you sold the old motor and other pieces.
Hey Mikey, the kit was $4000AUD. I like this solution as it is completely bolt on, and reversible, and retains mostly OEM parts. It's also street legal unlike engine swaps which will render the car not suitable for road use here in Australia.
BEAVIS Motorsport where do you get this for $4000aud? I can only find it for $5000 usd which is more like $6500-7000aud, for 4 grand I would be very interested in this kit
For five grand id rather rebuild my engine with stronger rods and go turbo and make more power. These things just aren't the way to go in my opinion if making making good power and not spending too much is your end goal. If you don't care how much you spend and want something simpler to install and care more about low end torque then These are for you.
Hey dude! I have a mazda 6 2.3L atmosferic with L3 engine, and i dont find any supercharger for me, you thing this supercharger for mazda mx-5 maybe adapt on my engine? Thks!
Hi Sunal, Nope sorry this is more of a street car than a track car. Plus I don't think drag racing is all that popular here in Australia so getting a 1/4 time isn't high on my priority list. Your guess is as good as mine as to what sort of time the car would do at the strip. :)
Do you mean powercard ? You let the stock ECU control the RX8 injectors ? FFS setups that I checked were knocking bad @ the top rpm... And be careful with those extra injectors... they hit the body and fly off... Charge temp is always a problem with FFS setups... be careful - and have fun !
Yes you are correct on all counts. If I ever drive this car as hard as I drive my track car, i wouldn't leave the powercard in there. When i get the time/money/interest, I will build a megasquirt for it.
That's actually not true, the design of a roots provides boost proportional to RPM, which suits this car, whereas screw type while very similar to roots, do not increase boost with RPM in quite the same way. Roots are also considered to be the most reliable of forced supercharger design.
larbag100 go ecotec lol. NA LEA will beat this kit. 4K without selling old stuff and about 3k if you sold old engine and other bits you won’t need anymore
Tutorial for installing an NB ABS system in an NA? In this case I literally swapped the entire braking system from an NB. That's really the best way to do it as you need the wiring loom, sensors, hubs, driveshafts, etc... the whole car basically has something to do with the ABS.
In daily driving it's really not creating a whole lot more heat than stock. The radiator has since been upgraded and is pretty huge now. I made a video of the installation here: ruclips.net/video/bnQhKEL1yxg/видео.html

What a big effort. It's so difficult.
I still think it's easier than a turbo setup.
The clutch master wasnt too big of an issue because i run the intake straight down under the SC.
video is missing from a crucial point until it" done". what's up with that?
I don't understand your question. I gather you are referring to the issue regarding the camera running out of battery, and thus there is a jump from "install" to "complete". I state this at 6:06
Is it just bolt on? No tuning with ecu?
Its mostly just bolt on, but the FFS kit includes an ecu piggyback to support the extra air being forced into the engine.
So what your telling is that it's theoretically easier to supercharge a car then turbo it
It's all relative.
G-day mate...✌️
The same supercharger should be working on a left hand drive as well..!
Correct..?
As I see no issues with the engine ... the only problem I see is... getting one for my 2001 left hand drive nb in germany 🇩🇪
Because everybody I talk to is doin‘ turbocharged engines...🤔🤔🤔
Yes if you look up FFS supercharger for miata, they make the kit in the USA originally left had drive.
Whats the size of the injectors?
The usual 420cc RX-8 Yellow injectors.
does this car have a tune able ecu and which one and should I need one I plan on supercharging my 94 miata ?
Yes Colin, I'm running a ME221 built by motorsport electronics.
While there are other ways to supercharge a car without an aftermarket ecu, for the best result you definitely want something tune-able.
alright thanks
I know it may be more work, but for a LOT less $$ you could do a GM 3.8 NA motor swap & have the same amt of HP
This car cost me about $10,000 all up including the car and VVT/6speed. I'm not sure you can do a 3.8 V6 swap for a 'LOT' less.
had to read that twice to decipher the lack of punctuation...... do you have a link to that video? So they built it to 400 hp; what was wrong with it? (aside from the miata bias & jaded view of GM- how about something objective & unbiased?)
BTW mid 90's camaros & firebirds are RWD, & the V6's were 3.8's
this fucking guy^
Did you run into any timing/tuning issues or was this a straightforward bolt-on?
No problems really, it all bolted straight on and fired right up. The power card pro was already setup for E85 on a vvt motor so i didn't have to adjust it.
+BEAVISHSV awesome, been thinking of doing this on my NA, turbocharging involves far more work it seems. Plus that supercharger whine is a magical sound :)
Does FFS kit mean For F**k sake kit?
Fast Forward Superchargers my friend.
I've had my FFS kit on the car now for over a year, I wish I had gone turbo instead.
Oh really? I really am quite satisfied with my setup. With E85 and about 15psi, there's more than enough power for a street car.
I'm about to get it tuned properly running a Adaptronic ECU and more boost, then second stage will be E85 and even more boost again. hopefully I'll be satisfied then.
@@TheOndman88 Were you ever satisfied?
Would it not have been easier to either buy a Mk2 or was the plan to demonstrate that it was possible to fit a mk2 into a mk1?
I got the NA mk1 shell with no driveline for basically free, so I sourced a wrecked NB mk2 with VVT and 6spd to swap in for cheap.
I wouldn't have done it were the mk1 already working.
BEAVISHSV Here's a thing i'd like to run by you. I've traded in my NC 2.0Sport for an NA 1.8 Merlot and I pick it up today. I can't decide whether or not to keep the NA standard and in great condition, or to Supercharge it. What do you think?
It's totally up to you, but in my opinion, no MX-5 has ever come with enough power :)
How come your supercharger bolts on to the intake manifold and not the exhaust side?
This was the way it was designed by Fast Forward Superchargers, benefits include less heat soak as opposed to an exhaust mounted supercharger, and less intake tubing required.
Where did you buy this kit
I bought it used from a random dude on the internet.
What kind of lights do you have for the feet area? I want to light my car a bit more and better(NBFL) but I don't know what the best solutions are.
I will get some pictures for you in the next few days and post back.
BEAVISHSV thanks, meanwhile I went to my local store and they have universal led strips which have a universal black and white cable which you can attach to something sacrificing something else, so I don't know what I'll be removing yet and still hope there's a better solution.
Hi Andre, here's some pictures of what I have done. imgur.com/a/ETjM2
Well it doesn't gain or do you any good doing this with your check engine light of depending what codes it has and why the check light is on and can possibly throw the ECU into safe or limp mode and take away alot of timing and limits the motor so no damage is done.
The CEL is caused by my bypassing of the EGR system. Nothing critical.
No limp home mode on an NA or NB miata. Its not a particularly clever ECU. Can't be flashed/tuned either, thus the piggybacks.
How has the reliability been ? And how many miles on the engine ? cheers Mate !
Hi Frank, I've not had any issues thus far. Though I've only gone through one tank of fuel (little over 200kms or 150miles). There's 200,000kms on the motor (124,000 miles).
@@Bbeavis hey just viewing this! Just wondering how the reliability has been ?
@@m32m1m The car ran fine for some 4yrs like this, but the add-on style fuel card was not that great, a dedicated ECU would be nicer. Eventually i just grew 'bored' with the setup and decided to return the engine to stock, so I spent a single day in the garage and it was all unbolted and back to normal. I sold the SC kit on.
3:20 Lower nuts are hard to reach...
I totally agree. 😂
Ah I see what you did there because you included the smiley face emoji.
You're using an adjustable wrench (spanner) ?.......
I do what i gotta do to get the job done, in my driveway... this isn't a mechanics workshop unfortunately.
hi is there some form of conversion between the supercharger outlet and engine inlet?
The superchargers bolts to a custom intake manifold which replaces the factory mazda unit. Hope that helps :)
Cheers thanks for response :)
Not a problem!
How does the intake handle water with where you have it sitting?
It is protected from the underside by the OEM plastic shroud/guard. And is also covered with a tin box. I don't have any issues with water really.
Hey broh , can u tell me what diameter its your crank pulley and supercharger pulley ?
Crank 110mm, 65mm on the charger.
How much psi gain with this setup?
I have 72 in charger and 130 crank and i have 0.4 bar at 7000rpm
@@punct4ever The standard Fast Forward Superchargers kit produces approximately 10 PSI of boost I believe.
Is there room for a coolant reroute kit to fit?
Things are pretty busy, you could route it underneath the intake manifold, or route the main hose on the hot side of the engine (over the exhaust manifold). Perhaps using a hard tube for the feed from the back of the engine to the front would be better.
How much of a pain is it do get to the oil filter with this kit?
About 50% worse than standard... it's definitely tricky.
Cool
Thanks mate.
How were you able to swap the interior?
Hi Martin, I literally bolted/swapped it all in from another car.
Where’d you buy all the parts?
Hi Francisco, I purchased the kit used from here in Australia so it came with all the parts needed for the install, plus a few extras. You can get the whole kit direct from "fast forward superchargers".
Beauty!
Cheers A D
great job!! very very good I like it
Thank you Luiss
But does it whine tho👀
Yes it did make a nice noise.
Turbo or Supercharger?
BOTH! This car has the Supercharger, it's great for the street. My other car has a turbo, awesome for the track. The turbo is generally considered the better value option.
Dude can you release a slower version of this video :((
You're making me consider supercharging my NB Mk2.5 as well with this kit
This video is some 4 years old now mate, so too old for me be able to re-do any of it slower. In the bottom right hand corner there is a little 'cog' button where you can change playback speed to half if you wish. :-)
speed down the video in youtube
nice mate
thanks bear
What about the ECU, is this the stock one ?
Hi Tran, it runs a powercard pro which was included with the kit from Fast Forward Superchargers.
awsome!
Thanks :-)
An EGR is like taking a deuce, and eating it to get what little protein is there that your body didn't need at the time. Literally what an EGR does. Recycles filth so the filth (which isn't quite filth) doesn't leave the car. Working on a project with a friend (RB e36) and while we're at it, I may or may not have the EGR plugged.
Ah yes I ended up blocking off the EGR fittings and removing the pipe work. It's necessary for emissions and safe to remove provided it doesn't conflict with your local road laws.
Stock engine?
Yes all oem.
have you need to change the ACU (the computer)?
thanks
Hello, the computer is still standard, however there is a PowerCard Pro 'piggy back' fuel adjuster. I will be installing a Megasquirt3 soon :)
cédrick lebeau I think it's called a ecu, at least it is in Australia
I need this kit for my fiesta xr4
It would do wonders for a Fiesta, does anyone make a kit for those cars though?
For five grand id rather rebuild my engine with stronger rods and go turbo and make more power. These things just aren't the way to go in my opinion if making making good power and not spending too much is your end goal. If you don't care how much you spend and want something simpler to install and care more about low end torque then These are for you.
Thanks for sharing!
Hey dude! I have a mazda 6 2.3L atmosferic with L3 engine, and i dont find any supercharger for me, you thing this supercharger for mazda mx-5 maybe adapt on my engine? Thks!
Hi Inari, I have no experience with the Mazda6 2.3L but I believe they are very different engines and would not be easily compatible.
Any 1/4 mile times ?
Hi Sunal, Nope sorry this is more of a street car than a track car. Plus I don't think drag racing is all that popular here in Australia so getting a 1/4 time isn't high on my priority list. Your guess is as good as mine as to what sort of time the car would do at the strip. :)
Can we install it in mazda premacy 2.0 ?
No, it's for the MX-5 1.8 BP as per the video
hey what year model is this
Hi maisen, this is a 1994 NA8 Clubman model, with the running gear from a 2003 NB model.
Awesome!
:) Thank you for watching!
ecu?
Hi Elior, it's just running a powercard pro setup at the moment.
What wheels and tires are those? Looks sweet!
Axis OG Banzai 15x8, just some generic Maxxis tyres.
Wait a second, thats a first gen NA 1.6 engine with a NB dashboard? oO
Yes the NB dashboard, along with NB transmission and engine.
thx
Thanks!
This a roots or twin screw blower?
It is considered a hybrid/roots-style supercharger. It's a MP62 Magnuson supercharger with Eaton rotor assembly.
BEAVISHSV aww dam because if it based off a roots they make like twice the the heat compared to twin screw
I guess all designs have their pro's and con's. In this case the concern of heat is managed with the intake manifold injector.
BEAVISHSV CX there really is no pro to a roots over twinscrew
That's actually not true, the design of a roots provides boost proportional to RPM, which suits this car, whereas screw type while very similar to roots, do not increase boost with RPM in quite the same way. Roots are also considered to be the most reliable of forced supercharger design.
too bad i dont have the 5 g's it'll cost me... or else i would've ordered it now...
larbag100 go ecotec lol. NA LEA will beat this kit. 4K without selling old stuff and about 3k if you sold old engine and other bits you won’t need anymore
When a part costs twice as much as a used car, then the car must be a bargain.
Stock bottom end?
Yep!
What specs are those hayashis?

is their a tutorial for the nb abs system in na mx5 as mentioned at 0:32
Tutorial for installing an NB ABS system in an NA?
In this case I literally swapped the entire braking system from an NB. That's really the best way to do it as you need the wiring loom, sensors, hubs, driveshafts, etc... the whole car basically has something to do with the ABS.
BEAVIS Motorsport thanks dad
The OG m on the steering wheel.
:D
oil and water temp.
In daily driving it's really not creating a whole lot more heat than stock. The radiator has since been upgraded and is pretty huge now. I made a video of the installation here: ruclips.net/video/bnQhKEL1yxg/видео.html
awsome . goo to hear . will install mine soon and just try to go off what you did here
where did you make/find that miata key?!
+Auston Reeves I made it. Bought a hot wheels car and gutted it, used a grinder to make a key fit inside, then glued it back together.
+BEAVISHSV ive gunna have to steal that idea! thanks for letting me know
Enjoy and good luck!
Should link up for the kit.
You can see some detail on the kit here if you're curious: www.fastforwardsuperchargers.com/
Thanks for watching Rob!
BEAVIS Motorsport i do have a question though, i just got given an na6 mx5, are the airflow metres common for failing in them. This one is not firing up.
Certainly not super common as far as i'm aware.
how much did it cost
About $4000AUD
Where did you get the kit?
It's a kit made in the USA, however i bought it used from a guy in Western Australia.
Ah yes I found them.. a bit pricy new.. not a bad deal if you can find a used one.. but for the price you can go Kraftworks full kit with intercooler or similar Flyin' Miata turbo kit...
